He has to control his pitch and volume and stuff when singing a song like this in acoustic, because this song is normally sung higher and louder with electric instruments, and overlapping, etc. If you look up "Before Tomorrow Comes" live in Amsterdam on CZcams you'll notice how close he sounds to the album version, it's spot on.

When its positioned at the sound hole, it makes pick noise an issue also. plus if you listen to a guitar along the neck, it generally sounds tonally best between the sound hole and the 12th fret (if its a 14 neck joint) or the 10th fret (if its a 12 neck joint)

His Chemistry/voice with Alter Bridge is FAR better than it is with Slash. He's trebly and nasally with Slash; MUCH richer with Alter Bridge.
