Remember back around 2015, all anyone could talk about was wheel size and who was running 27.5 and who was still running 26, or even who dared to run 29? The commentators had entire discussions about wheel size. Now I don't even know who runs 27.5 or 29. Plus with the new UCI rule stating both wheels can be different sizes, some riders will run the 27.5 - 29er set up of old. I used to run a 24in rear with a 26 inch front on a Specialized Bighit around 2001. I liked the geometry of a smaller wheel in the rear as it made the front higher, so on the steeps it didn't feel so aggressive. But in the last 20 years the single most important improvement has been geometry of bikes. Head angles are a lot more relaxed and wheelbases are longer to give bikes better stability.
I'm not a huge fan of the bike park style course at Lenzerheide, but it did make for a great race. There was enough natural terrain to make it challenging, but had fast, open sections with some nice jumps.. I much prefer the course at Val Di Sole because of how technical it is. Back in the late 90's early 2000's we would just run some tape down the side of a mountain and call it a course. Sick, East Coast USA, roots and rocks.
