How I Dealt with Being Completely Stuck

  • 'What's the play for today? It's all about being stuck and what I do about it. I was in my head. One minute I loved a certain part of it, then the next, I didn't like that same part. Overthinking big time. I was never going to get anywhere as long as I was thinking this way.
I needed to get out of my head and get in to the play. How did I do that? I did something that couldn't be undone. I took a risk. Visit the blog for supplies used and photos at acolorfuljourney.com/?p=26434

You can find my articles in magazines such as Somerset Studio and Cloth Paper Scissors, spot me teaching in person and online workshops, designing stencils for StencilGirl Products, and sharing the message of O.O.P.S.
What does O.O.P.S. stand for? It stands for Outstanding Opportunities Presenting Suddenly.
Those “failures” and “mistakes” that I had so harshly criticized myself about actually became true gifts as soon as I started saying O.O.P.S. Try saying Oops in an angry tone. It makes it even more silly! I just can’t take myself seriously when I say Oops which is just what I needed to play. I began to play, to have fun, and to embrace all of my “mistakes”.

You take the serious and blocked and lost cause out of art and pave the creative road to joyous play or as some say: getting in the zone. The scribbled circle made my eyes light up and heart sing. Dang, you're good.

Hey, Carolyn, I just found you, too! I am enjoying every video I've watched so far. But I have a question, because I am a Virgo and we nitpick and analyze everything. I love the way the scribbly writing looks around your circle. And I know I could borrow that idea and write in wild and crazy patterns on my pages, BUT: I would still be able to read it IF I referred to it as "journaling." Can you read what you wrote? This is NOT A CRITICISM! This is me figuring out how to look at your stuff and also how to understand that maybe I spent so much time working on my illegible handwriting to make it legible, that now it's hard for me to loosen it up! But if you were really just making marks that suggested writing - I can do that! 🤣😍🤣

I recently had this problem with an art journal page I didn't like. The page was covered with bright gelatos in pinks and oranges with green circles. Too bright so I used circles as masks and painted the whole page blue-green. Felt better. No finished though. Thinking of adding touches of white paint. To me, a page is never finished.

Absolutely - a page never has to be finished unless we want it to be!

What do you do when you are stuck getting the room ready to get started? I had such high hopes.

If you're stuck, then do something crazy, take that risk, and just start making something, use anything within reach Brenda.
