Tips on caring for a rawhide drum

One thing I've noticed is tat people will buy ir make a rawhide drum and they don't fully understand how to care for it. Here are a few tips on storing, tuning, and caring for your drum.

Thank you for making this video. You mentioned the drum can be repaired. What if the hide has constricted so much that many laces have snapped and the head is now smaller that the hoop? Can the hide be salvaged by soaking in water for days/weeks like when I first built the drum? Thank you in advance for considering.

If it has not been painted you can resoak it and re-tye it yes.

My drum looks high and low in places around the face outter part kind of warped looking

Could be because of humidity- when it's rainy or wet they can look that way.

@@cyclesofevolution I would not wet it, if you have a window with direct sunlight or are able to put it in the direct sunlight that works, or you could heat it with a blow dryer, just heat it slowly.

I have soaked a hide with hair to make a drum but all the hairs start falling out and it has big bald spots now. What us the cause of thus?

Our tribe uses bear grease.
