  • Confused by options and safety of HRT? Is it better to be 'natural'? Dr Sophie summaries what is the menopause, it's symptoms and options for managing it, including the pros and cons of HRT. If you think you may be menopausal and interested to find out more, this will give you lots of information so you can be informed and prepared if you decide to speak to your GP / family physician.
    I'd be really grateful if you could give 30 seconds feedback once you've watched the video: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7ZHNPVX

    Great video. I have been on evorel sequel for 3 months and have had some great overall improvements. Can I ask is it OK to take vitamin D or others vitamins whilst on HRT? When I'm on my 1st week of progesterone patches my mood lowers slightly. I have discussed options with my nurse but I need to wait 12 months before changing prescription. so just wondering if vitamins would help or hinder. Many thanks 😊

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  Před 2 lety +1

      The great thing about HRT is that you are just topping up back to the levels of oestrogen you have lost, so drug interactions are not much of a concern. In general, depending on how much sunshine you get, it’s a great idea to take vitamin D. I have done a video this if you want more info. Magnesium is another vitamin I often recommend, but nothing else unless you have reason to suspect deficiencies, eg B12 if vegan. Hope that helps!

    I wish my experience was as easy, I am going through it early I’m 45 now and when I turned 40 and changed my contraceptive from depo injection to the mini pill that’s when my problems started and there are a lot more extreme than the problems you have gone through.
    It took me 3 years to get a blood test after showing signs and I was told I was too young ?, I was tried on one estogen patch and it didn’t agree with me so I have been left with nothing and in not such a good way with my health

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  Před rokem

      So sorry to hear this. You’re definitely not ‘too young’. Perhaps you should try going back to your doctors and asking to try an alternative if you haven’t already?

    • @karensmith3997
      @karensmith3997 Před rokem +1

      If I could get to see a doctor who would take me serious would be a start. Basic biology they know chemicals we use in everyday products can mimic our hormones and cause problems but they don’t understand the menopause, I had problems at puberty they could of warned me about this.
      I have spent the first 6 months of the year with sever nerve pain in my scalp and right hand side of my face and also paralysis and I have got no help at all.
      The reason I am saying this is because people are being let down by this, it all sound so easy when you know what you are going through I nearly lost everything because the gp’s didn’t listen.
      This is a serious problem that needs addressing properly.
      I don’t got hot flushes it’s probably the only symptom I don’t get.
      Try helping people that are really suffering through this

    My experience has not been great either and if you could actually get to see a doctor that would be great also but you cant .your lucky if you even get a phone call these days .which is not private or personal .i got sent this from my doctor also when i tried to order my usual kliovance but the rigmerol i have to go through id rather stick with what i know so now im just hoping he will issue my normal hrt .As getting through to a doctor isnt easy in the first place .

      Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time getting an appointment, if you are in the UK, I can appreciate that the NHS is struggling at the moment with increased demand and not enough staff unfortunately. I always recommend switching from tablet oestrogen to transdermal, as per the video, as this is the safest form of HRT. Perhaps try an econsult if that option is available to you.

    • @michellebiagott4593
      @michellebiagott4593 Před 7 měsíci

      @DrSophieGP thankyou I do have that option however they don't always get back to you ,I am told often that the services are overwhelmed which I understand greatly again though that doesn't help me .so I'm not even going to attempt to try and change as I'm alright on kliovance which is one pill .The patches get dirty quickly and lose there stick and when I did do the two pills I could never sleep when I was on progesterone only .
