  • Stelvio twice in one day, we climbed it from Bormio then descended down Umbrail pass on the reverse of the giro route and ascended it from the longer side of Prato. The Stelvio from Prato was definitely the toughest climb of the trip for me, the fatigue, elevation, and gradient all took its toll in the last few ks!

    I did this same ride in September a couple years ago. Maybe traffic was less then. The double Stelvio was a spiritual experience for me. I lived off that high for months and months. There was some traffic but I learned to expect it and accept it. Part of being in that moment was noticing the sound of a car or moto coming up the road as well as noticing the flowers on the side and the rivulets and the scenery and, and, and. Nice vid. Great to be reminded about my all time favorite ride again.

    Great talk on "managing expectations vs reality" - If you want a real hubbard move, try knee warmers with long socks. That's what I did in California on "cold" days.

    I make my own rule up with the socks, if I'm riding like crazy early morning, talking about 3am or 5am starts, I have my socks over. But if I start later on in the morning like 7am or later, I tend to have my socks under.
    I think having it over is a comfort thing and under is more a cycling attire etiquette of the unwritten-rule lol.

      @VeloVegan  Před 7 lety

      haha this is gold, thanks for the in depth analysis. thinking about it, for me comfort wise socks under is better since they protect you from the zipper rubbing etc

    • @franksolomona90
      @franksolomona90 Před 7 lety

      Oh yeah, good point about the zipper rubbing, I was actually thinking about legwarmers, but yeah when I had the zippers on the other day I did have my socks under. Holy, its a great question, in New Zealand, anything goes lol. I know if an Aussie was to answer this question they would be even more particular lol.
      Keep up the awesome content and great work with Jackson and Ian with your trip to Italy and France.

    I definitely enjoy your trip in the alps and thank you for answer my questions before.
    I do socks under in our short winter in Florida.
    Back in the days(mid 90's) I was straight edge/vegeterian. It was a good phase. Now I eat what I can since I have colitis. 3 months ago in April I decide to do a delicious plant base meal and finished in the hospital with a severe flare up. But hey, I do enjoy seeing others living a healthy life. ✌
    Btw, what day was the ride in stelvio? I think I heard another vlogger talking about avoiding stelvio in the weekend.

    Do the rides in late may,it's cold but spectacular, I had the gavia to myself this year as part of my crazy stelvio-gavia-mortirolo day.im so intrested in being vegan as my tummy really dosnt like meat,carbs and gels for stelvio and not too much caffine or you'll cramp.climbing in the cold is awesome if you have gear for decent,gavia was so cold my electronics stopped!

    Everyone who I know that climbed Stelvio said the same thing: Stelvio is overrated. There are far nicer less known climbs in the Alps. Cool video though.
