- With so many LEGO "Investors" out there giving advice, I thought I would share my story and some pitfalls I've experienced through investing in LEGO. Since I got back into collecting LEGO in 2017, I've been buying and selling sets. Through that, I've gained a lot of knowledge. Through that knowledge, I've learned that not every aspect of investing in LEGO is good, and that's what I'm sharing with you today.
REMINDER! This video is NOT financial advice. It is my opinion and experience and is meant for entertainment purposes ONLY.

Do you think investing/reselling LEGO is a bad idea?
If you know what you're doing it's a safe way to invest and make money. However for me it would be too much to store hundreds of boxes and sell them - I enjoy and find it easier to invest in the stock market instead. Great video!
Definitely agree with this. Holding the sets can be a real hassle and investing in the stock market just makes things easier
yes bad idea, after 4 years you can earn 40 bucks more or so. Is it worth it?
@@michalprzedlacki8382as someone who mainly buys lego from ebay I like people reselling sets.
But I don't like the idea of investing
Good advice on not buying too early. It is fun to talk about new sets and their reselling potential, but it is best to wait and buy them at a discount.
Very true! A lot of people lose money on that
if you know the star wars fandom its pretty easy to know what sets to invest in the prequel sets always do well especially containg clone troopers
That's a good rule of thumb, just invest in clone sets lol
If I remember correctly the Heavy Scout Walker never appeared in Star Wars media. Could that be the reason for the poor performance in retirement, if it did appear in the movie I would think that the price would be much higher in the 80-100 range.
That definitely had a factor in it. Sorry, I must've forgotten to cover that in the video.
Very honest and well made video. Lego investing I see as a way to make a small profit to build your capital. AT the same time it is super fun to build and be in the community. I think having a diverse portfolio is what I try to focus on. I could see the Lego investing being the next bubble but if it pops it'll still be fine and bounce back.
Well said! It's definitely not for big gains but is a fun part of the hobby
Nice, i picked up 8 battlepacks this week at £12 each (19.67CAD) as investments as local stores have them reduced already
Nice pickup, I wouldn't have expected them to be discounted already!
What and where as £12 I got the 501st new ones for £13.99
Where do u sell your sets? What websites do u recommend? Also, how do you ship them?
I mainly sell my stuff locally on Facebook Marketplace, but I also sell them on eBay and Facebook Groups that sell across Canada. As for shipping, I would suggest getting a Small Business account for Canada Post if you're in Canada, if not then they're others with USPS or whatever country you're in.
As much as I feel for your losses, this is investing...
You win a few, you lose a few. The trick is to win more than you lose.
Thanks, Bro! 👌
I've found out that it's like having another job, and if you factor everything into it including your time, storing, packing, shipping, spreadsheeting etc it probably works out less than minimum wage, and that's with the sets you double your money on. If I didn't enjoy it as a hobby, it wouldn't be worth it
True, you really have to have a passion for make it worth doing
Great insights! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Star wars has a lot of sets so investing is risky, to me i like castle sets cuz there is no castles like 31120, or harry poter stuff like hedwig, if lets say i buy harry potter building, then i kinda compete vs other non harry poter buildings, while with hedwig i comppete vs other birds which there is not a lot of
Fair enough... 👏
I have a question, do you like make your living out of that or do you do that as back plan or something like that?
No, but it definitely helps. I'm in school, have work-terms for my degree, a part-time job, and invest and resell other stuff. This is just one of my many ventures lol
U seem like a very smart kid. I'm interested in how you got started investing. Rich parents? Start small? How did you get to 600 sets that's incredible
I come from a small town with little money, just got into reselling stuff around 12 years old and have been doing it ever since
Great video dude. Thank you❤
Thanks for the support!
I bought the Lego 1966 batmobile for £20 and it's now £56-80 and the set only retired two months ago, would you say it's a good investment?
Yes definitely! That's roughly a 100-200% ROI
@@Trimd eyyy lesss gooo
Hey I have a question. I don’t earn that much I am in university. I am not crazy to put all my money in Lego but for a guy like me who don’t earn that much money which solution is better : buying a big set + 100 $ like the dunes ornithopter or a lot of clones battle packs ?
If I was in your situation and had a $100 to spend on something to make money on in the future, and hopefully get the most return, I would definitely not invest in the dune ornithopter as it just came out and won't be retiring anytime soon. I'd definitely purchase some sets that are retiring and on a deeper discount of 30% or more, and those could be clone battle packs and the clone minifigs are very popular.
@@Trimd thanks a lot
Random question: What do you think abt the helmets? Is it a good investment or not?
Depends on the helmet, have one in mind?
Шлем капитана Рекса и коммандера Коди определенно стоят вложений.
Liked your video, Keep it up 🙂
Glad you enjoyed, thanks!
Love collecting Star Wars lego. Its a good investment for small investors (making small profits on small investments). A bad investment for large investors, too much work to make 10s of thousands.
This is true, if you're looking to make a lot of money it's better to invest in real estate, the stock market, 401k, etc...
Hey Trimd, can you show me which shelves those are in the background? Would you recommend them? Thanks
Those are Plano Molding Shelves. Really you can buy any brand and they're all the same. Just look for Heavy Duty Rack shelves at Home Depot, Walmart, Canadian Tire, etc...
You have a lot of sets, whats your hold time?
Roughly 2 years or until I can get a 100% ROI
Hello! I want to invest in lego but my problem is i do not know how to invest from other parts of the world as of right now i live in turkey but i sadly do not know how to make money from here, if you could help me out on this one i would really appreciate it, thank you!
I don't know much about the market in Turkey, but I would say to try and find any retailers that carry LEGO and see when they discount their sets. It would usually be before retire, and that is already the best time to buy, so I'd try to buy then and learn the avenues of selling in your country. Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Bricklink, and Instagram, are all good here in Canada, but I'm not sure if that applies in Turkey. Hope that can help you?
what platform do you use to sell lego set?
Facebook Marketplace and eBay
@@Trimd do you worry about customers charge back on eBay ? Have you experienced that before ?
Is the 75290 a good investment
Depends on the price you bought it for
@@Trimd 300?
@@playphilplus1199 probably a pretty good deal, nice job 👍
is set 40557 a good investment ?
I don't think so, I could be wrong though...
Lego investing is a Bad idea because lego can have a unexpected restock or re-released products in my opinion
That doesn't happen very much, but it has happened with some LEGO ideas sets. I.e. the Saturn V and Ship in a bottle, among others.
The problem is that too many do it currently. Lets say you buy a idk, at-te and wait until it goes eol. Thousands of people got thousands of those sitting around. I would say personaly get like 1-2 Sets or something on the side on a good discount and buy only Sets you would like to build yourself, so even if it fails, you got something to build
It’s saturated. So no, but don’t expect insane rewards like before
If there's more demand than supply it will go up, only time will tell

Sorry, but I did share the negatives behind LEGO investing 🤷♂️
