Finally, someone explained what they do and where to put them! Thank you so much for your clear input. Don't know why other CZcamsrs made it so difficult to understand. Put them in your filter after the water has been through mechanical media, (so they don't clog up), they are home to good bacteria over/through which the water containg ammonia and nitrites passes. Made my day as I am setting up new 60 litre aquarium today and didn't know where to put the rings! Thanks again...

Superb bro. I do use ceramic rings. Very well explained. Super audible with simple English. But be careful of the motor which you have kept in the side of your top filter. It top filter overflows then the motor will not work.

I read that if you put active carbon and zeolite, you defeat the purpose of using ceramic rings, which is to create a bacteria colony. Active carbon and zeolite will take away the "food" from the bacteria and they will starve. Chemical filtration (active carbon and zeolite) should only be used temporarily and to tackle specific issues. If you have a healthy aquarium, only mechanical and biological filtration is needed.
Sir, can the ceramic rings, lava rocks, activated carbon be kept on top of the sponge layers in a top filter ? Also, while using those bio media in an internal power filter, should the power filter be kept running round the clock ?
Does adding it to top filter help? I don't keep it running all the time and U mentioned the rings needs to be submerged always, so when the top filter is not running will the bacteria die off or the moisture from the mech padding keep then alive?
hey...10 15 airstones can be use instead of ceremic ring? bcz airstones have shape as c.ring.....everything is same...but with airstone...will get colors too...wats ur suggestion!!
There are many options available yo keep beneficial bacteria. You can choose whatever suits you. There is no rules and regulations created for using ceramic rings only.
Please show us to use ceramic rings and carbon in 2 feet aquarium top filter and how much time we can keep our top filter on after adding ceramic rings and carbon to our filter because sum people say if amonia is removed completely from our aquarium the fish will dye is it true

Yes filter floss is always necessary in any type of filter.. Not only it will hold waste but also other particles.. Whereas Ceramic rings helps in holding beneficial bacteria..

Wouldn't it be more convenient if they were all standing upwards so that water flows through the holes in the middle of each ring? This was there is more water flow on more of the rings surface. Just curious if this would make much of a difference.
I got ceramic rings off amazon and they are raising my ph in my tanks. My tap is 6.6 but the tanks I have the rings in are all at 7.8. What should I do to stop it from raising my ph.
I don't know if your problem has been solved or not. If not, you can try adding few bits of Indian almond leaf in your filter if you find your pH is rising. Don't add too many. I am not an expert. But this seemed to work for me.

I use brick chips and they also work but make sure to boil them before putting them in your tank filter !

Yes, you can keep all these in top filter.
Also if you can provide the air via air pump then no need to run power filter continuously.

Use tank water to clean it and never use chlorine to clean your ceramic rings
