Totally lost my eyes for bad quality đ€Šđ»ââïžđđ He is like: little bit like that, little bit like this, and I'm like: where? I can't even see anything.
I don't ever leave comments but I learned SO much from this video. I've been using After Effects for over a decade and I learned things in this video that I never knew. Great job Visionary Fire!
New to this channel and I have to say, the realism of this effect is mindblowing! Hard to believe you created this digitally even though I just watched you do it.
As always, your tutorials are awesome. I've learned so much from you and will continue to do so! I tell as many people as I can about your awesome channel and style of teaching.
My one piece of feedback: The vid being at 480 is really difficult.
Thank you for saying that. I agree with Chipp, this video is genius; however it can be hard to follow along at 480.
Great stuff!
FYI at 10:08 you cut out adding a feather to the grey solid before you precomposed it!
you save my time like magic , thx cap
That is exactly that one thing that I was missing.Total beginners really need everything step by step :D
Thanks! There was something wrong with this step.
oh hey... đ I'm late to this party hahaa
Now, picture a 2020 update of this in high resolution and dubble the length of the tutorial đ„
(I prefer speeding up/jumping forward myself when suitable, and when not: I'd like to have it all in the video, no speeding up nor cutting out)
Think this is the most detaild after effects tutorial (which you can actually follow the steps) that I came across on youtube. Good job man.
Let me know if I can help more
seriously awesome tutorial, man. god, so many years of trying to achieve decent-looking fire with particular and all i needed was turbulent noise and displace this whole time.
Yeah, you can actually create a very similar fire look with particular. Just create one of those fluid simulations I covered in another video here on the channel and from there, add texture with fractal noise and a few of the other adjustments like we made in this video and you can get a pretty sweet result! :)
Really great work!
one of the best channels out there for seeking advanced level of after effect
[ User tip: If you can't find "Mask Reference" under "Compositing Options" then click the little plus sign to the right of it :) ]
Thanks a lot for the tutorial, Lendon, I know there's a lot of out-of-the-box plugin stuff out there but it's cool (and very flexible) to make fire from scratch. Much appreciated x
I opened After Effects for the first time at 9AM, by 1PM I had a working flame FX for my trailer. I have a small working knowledge of Illustrator and Premiere, and a decent amount of Photoshop knowledge... but this was the first time I've ever used After Effects, and this tutorial was detailed enough to get me to where I wanted to be. Thank you!!
Creating an Adjustment Layer is Ctrl+Alt+Y btw if anyone else had a hard time understand his "Ctrl+Shrimp+Y"
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am part of a team making a student film with a hearth as the film's centerpiece, and this really saved the day! I learned so many cool ways to use expressions and masking thanks to this video!
You made an amazing job! I think this is the best video teaching about making fire from scratch in After Effects. You've made history, son. Thank you.
You might want to change your Y calculation to (time*1800 % 33000)*-1 rather than time*-1800. It appears that AE has a limit of 33000 - -33000 for the y offsets
Thank you so much for posting. Fantastic result! You get right to it and motor along at a good pace. A couple times I had difficulty seeing what you clicked with the 480p resolution, but I figured it out.
amazing tutorial, this helps out in so many different ways. You can even make the smoke yourself with all
the techniques you showed. Again Amazing!
An After Effects fire tutorial with no third-party plugins? DUDE! Where have you been all my life?!
Finally, someone else who's OBSESSED with fire!!!
14:28
Ah yes, CTRL+sÒ̧ÌÌhÍąÍÌnÍÍÌĄaÌąÌ”rÌĄÌ”ÍÌ·Ì·+Y
lol it was 'CTRL+ALT+Y' He says Alternate really fast lmao
I thought I was having a stroke for a second there
You know the best part is the Interstellar music.. it really adds to the immersion of learning hahah thank you so much
Hey! This is WAY better than the first fire tutorial! I was getting lost the first time, but now not only did I follow along, but the effect turned out great! Thanks, man!
jesus these videos have had an amazing step up in quality... great work.. i will be following your tutorials now that i know about you!
Using AE since 2001, version 5. Seen a lot of things, did a lot. This is impressive.
From a Veteran: Very nice and creative work!!! You problem solving skills proof that you looked under AEs skirt more than once.
you can make another flame layer and make it more intense just above the star and add slightly more redish glow behind and around the edges ,will give it some nice details .
but it's awesome man keep up the good work â
Can u make a fire tornado !?
you know similar to the one in "into the storm "movie as ur the master of fire tutorials .
I don't know, I'll have to try it out.
Dude, you are a prodigy. Don't worry about the 480p, although it's not ideal, you can still do the tutorial just fine. Thanks for the awesome tutorials, and hope you keep at it!
Thanks, man! I think I remember one of your comments on another one of my videos. Your picture is familiar. Thanks again!
Best fire animation tutorial out there, but next time upload it in 1080 please! haha
Beautiful, man. Did this tutorial for something Im working on. Fire in AE has always been difficult for me to simulate, but this does a great job. I actually prefer the look of your last tutorial for more stylized fire, but this can easily be tooled for a similar effect. Thank you!!
Dude I was able to use Curves to color grade the Fire element perfectly. Thank you Lendon!
I really want to thank you for this video. It's been my challenge as a AE beginner...and I did it. Really happy and awesome effect!! Thank you.
This is pretty extraordinary actually!
Thanks thanks thanks!
Amazing video really taught us ALOT MORE than just a simple fire effects, showing us LOADs of fundamentals and I love this video thank you so much
worked on mine for about 2 hours and its looking insane! Thanks for the tutorial :))
Keep it up! I really like your tuts, easy AND effective at the same time :D
Glad you enjoy the hard work! :)
Hey man, great stuff! I also added some evolution to the fractal noises, to add a little more dynamic movement
Another great tutorial. I greatly appreciate touching on the techniques for masking with older versions of After Effects (especially since there are a lot of us who still use CS6). I'd like to see a conversion for the fire sim tutorial or at least something like that if possible. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Cool thanks. Yeah, I wish I could convert the project file. The only way really would be for me to install CS6 and re-create the effect.
Wow thatâs very realistic!
You did the fire as a "sim", and brought in stock blurred sparks and smoke. That's nuts. I learnt some techniques, and I thank you for that. But that made me lol, if you're bringing in elements just buy some fire. ;)
great tutorial dude. learned new thing about masking out effects thanksđ
Glad you learned something!
Very clear and easy to understand! Awesome tutorial! Thank you !!!!
Perfect, without 3rd party plugins! thank you!
After years of AE.. I wasnt aware of the new options to mask effects directly! Thanks!
my god .... awesome! Keep on studying and maybe I'll be able to follow you along on this fire tutorial. Thanks!!
Entertained we are! Excellent work. Thank you.
Absolutely great! CC particle world is great and easy for fire particles. Looks just wonderfull. Subbed.
i dont know how did you manage to figure this all out, amazing thanks!
You are a genius, thank you.
Great tutorial!
Great video - thanks!
this was an amazing and really helpful tutorial. helped me with a school project that is turning out amazing! Thank you so much!
Very nice. Great explanation of your steps.
Good effects. Thank you for the links đ
Hey Lendon I subscribed to your channel, your tutorials are great.
Thanks !!!
Question.
If you use an adj.layer with set matte, over the flame, and use the separation layer as mat, won't you get the effect you need, but without the solid layer?
And with this you can have it as transparent, and everything bellow will show, while now you need the black background?
Respect dude. This is looking very real. Thumps up for sure
We have a new Andrew Kramer right here! Wish I discovered your channel earlier. Love your tutorials bro
Glad you love it!!!
Yay your alive!
Nice Video BTW
Awesome thank you so much i really need this!!!!!
Your welcome and thank you!
Hey, can you do a visually pleasing portal effect? like in Film Riot's portal combat? i tried downloading the project files when i used to use Hitfilm but now i can't replicate it or install Hitfilm.
best tutorial bout fire ever!!! thanks so much.
You are welcome. Glad you found it helpful!
Much better than the other tutorial!
Great tutorial
I like your tutorials, Lendon Bracewell
You had me at "prpbably not" :D Awesome video!
Thank you, I will check that out.
This really is an amazing tutorial, but with having it be 480p on top of the very fast mumbling every so often, its pretty difficult to follow along.
Im writng comment just to help you, dude!
Really good job and interesting video! I wish you more good ideas and inspiration for your hard job!
Thanks!!!
thanks for redoing it because I couldn't follow after the first few seconds
that's amazing work , thanks in advance
Could u pls upload full HD video next time ?
Yes, I really meant to this time but I made a horrible mistake by recording in half resolution. :/
seriously man, ur skills are amazing.. nice one man
The grey solid displacement map, when you drag it, it's solid, but in the next shot, its a gradient. How did you do this? For me, the displacement map shows as complete solid.
He created a New Mask for Grey Solid layer and added Mask Feather.
This was the most amazing thing i have ever seen
I really really loved the tutorial... but man the resolution of the video sometimes complicates things, still really loved.
Awesome tutorial! Thank you
This tutorial is FIRE!
Great tutorial, thanks!! Managed to follow along just fine and I definitely learnt a lot!! :D
I want to overlay the flame on some other footage but if I remove the solid composite layer then it all goes to hell with the separation layer. Likewise changing the blending modes just ruins the effect. Any suggestions? Feel like I'm missing something obvious
If anyone's coming here in 2022, the only obsolete blur I found for the effect at 12:05 is called Gaussian Blur (Legacy).
Another video for you my Wizard: czcams.com/video/MUPkK4r-M-c/video.html
I see every comment popup up on my youtube phone notifications.

You know what would be a great addition to this video? Or another video. A tutorial on how to make the fire light interact/bounce off of objects, like a wall. Adds a whole new level of realism.
He: We will make it a lot sharper! Lets feather it! xD
thanks alot man, such a gem of a video!
Duuuuuude, amazing that you made it really better than before !
And the 4 bad quotes đđđ Loool ^^ for the guys who gave bad quote - don't cry, deinstall AE !
You're the man.
this was awesome. Great job
its looks freaking SWEEET
Awesome ideas man. How would you make the flame appear reacting to some wind? Flowing to the side. With some liquefy effect or maybe something else?
This is an awesome tutorial! Thanks!
dude, you are killing it! probably the best fire made from fractal noise i have ever seen! how old are you btw ?
Thanks Samrat! I'm 18 now.
that was so great but what about fire starting? you know like one super hero start a fire in his hand ,did you find a way to do that?
Yeah, it would probably be best to use stock footage or a 3d fire simulation. I'm sure it is possible using this method though, just not the best way.
Nice work bro. Thank you for the files too. I owe you one!
vfx king! subscribed
Thanks man, i learnt something today :)
Great Tutorial. How do you make one against a transparent background? When the solid composite layer is added, i get a black background
having the same problem
so it's a bit late to tell you this now, but this is more for anyone in future whos wondering:
to get a transparent background but still make the separation what i did was get rid of the solid composite layer he makes, put the 'separation layer' right above your base flame layer and change the mode to 'silhouette luma', add an invert channel to the separation layer and that should do the trick.
Hope this helps anyone
@@BoyPorcelain love you man!! like really thanks for this!
Jesuss that looks excellent damn
Well explained, badly captured! which is fine except for effect percentages which you typed and didn't state. Great video none the less
Hi! There is things that are cut out 18:44. What have you added there? The effect changes.
I'm guessing if someone want's to create stylized fire a good route would be to make the displacement map with a higher contrast level?
Grande bro very powerful tutorial
WOW! Just wow!
Dude! You're that youtuber that needs to be known! How you come up with this stuff is amazing! If I may ask, what program do you use for computer screen recording? I've tried just a sour everything but they all make the files huge and they lag a lot when previewing.
I use Flashback. It works really good when you don't record in half resolution. :/
Dangpretty good for basic fire effects but I do see one problem witch is movement wonât make the fire naturally bend without animating the mask or using the puppet tool witch is a benefit of using some sort of particle systems I figured out a way to do smoke in after effects using the particle system might be able to pull it off with after effects particles
Hey I love how you think! Check out the updated fire simulation technique! visionaryfire.com/resources
cool...you are a wizard!
i just took a ride on the force. show me sensei
