For some reason, I love how anime people were blended in with the tokusatsu effects. Some toku from the late 1970's did this, mostly Tsuburaya ones and it's really trippy how it is done. And it's amazing. If I made shows based on my characters, I would do it this way.
Fun fact: This is actually a complation of the first 4 episodes of the Tsuburaya tv series Dinosaur War Izenborg, wich were mixed together, and got dubbed to English in 1982 or around 1980 maybe.Dinosaur War Izenborg is actually a very good show, wich has a weak start, but has great episodes too.
@@bencemolnar4246 yes I'm aware of that. I kinda wish this compilation movie used those later episodes since that's when the stuff worth watching actually happens.
Well, this couldn't be any more stupid than believing the world is millions of years old on the evidence of a process(carbon dating) that is only considered accurate up to 10k years, and a few other questionable theories. So yeah, I guess I could believe that dinosaurs explode as much as I can believe that a massive explosion created all life on earth, basically. No matter what you say, the theory is based on an explosion of gases and we know how fire and life coexist, or do we?
Little Anna should be guilty of manslaughter. Sends two men into the sewer to die chasing a rat who destroyed an article of clothing. She’s going to hell for that one.
As a kid who loved dinosaurs, i have probably watched this movie 1000 times back in the early 90s. Had so much fun watching this back then and it was fun to watch it now so many years later. Brings up alot of memories! :)
Same, I wore out my VHS copy as a kid watching this so many times and it was released at a time when my dinosaur obsession got real and if a show or a movie had dinosaurs in it, I loved it, no matter if it actually sucked or was good haha :p
"honestly, I don't know why this didn't get showcased on MST3K. " I am here because this has made it into RiffTrax: the game and I said I told my viewers I had to watch it immediately during my stream and someone found this link. RiffTrax is Mike and the Robots and they do voice work in the game which means the cast of MST3K agreed it's perfect riffing material and they will make jokes right alongside you and your friends. Oh, and it looks like there was a rifftrax for the whole movie in 2019.
So I really want to go off on this, not in a bad way though, just something of a tangent. 1) My family owned this VHS, and I enjoyed the hell out of giant dinosaurs and the cool combining/transforming vehicles and such. This is a young boy's dream. I always wondered if there was more to this, since it looked like it was a tv show and would show scenes that clearly looked like they were from other episodes. 2) last year I decided to look into the show, it was a originally a japanese show in the 70s, I watched every episode, and for the most part it was fine until the later half of it's run. You know how if they are gemini for too long they can die? Well that happens, so Jim jumps the back overlay of his sister to try and save her, and they sort of combine into what I can only call a Ultraman clone. And from that point on the show just becomes a Ultraman clone. 3) Even before the point of #2, they end up re-using a lot of the dinosaurs, there was very few unique puppets. 4) SPOILER (not that it really matters) - Emperor Tyranus is eventually killed, but you find out there was an even bigger bad in the background that Tyrannus was working for. I forget his name as this was all in japanese (with subtitles) and wasn't dubbed. At first this baddie is only represented by a pair of glowing eyes in the background that Tyrannus reports to, eventually he takes on an actual giant humanoid form. This BBEG is killed at the end of the series (yes it did reach a conclusion and proper final episode) with help from an ally that sacrifices himself to help Gemini that they meet later on. To my surprise, there is actually an episode where the base is attacked and destroyed by the super monsters, which leads to the base you see at the end credits where it flies out from next to the water. 5) After finishing the series, I realized there was multiple scenes of monsters that are scene in flashbacks, or just cut-aways that never make it into the show, scenes that look more like odd generic monsters and not dinosaurs. Monsters shown at the beginning at 0:21 and 0:45 and 0:56 and 1:08 never show up at all, looking into this, these monsters are just clips of freakin ultraman monsters. And I think the scene with the dinosaurs peacefully living underground is actually from another show as well. All in all it was a very odd dive into retro japanese TV, I really enjoyed it, despite I was disappointed by many monsters simply not showing up and only being clips from literally other shows.
I wonder what made Tsuburaya decide to have animated protagonists for this series and Born Free? Surely it must've been more expensive than just having live actors. Another thing I don't get is how this localized pilot never went anywhere. It wasn't made that long before things like Voltron and Robotech came out.
I’d heard of this thing for years, just watched the Rifftrax version, and still can’t believe it’s a real thing. I should have recorded my face in the first minute when the talking T. rex popped out of a volcano and yelled “THE EARTH....IS OURS”.
Well, this isn't really a movie, it's an American compilation of the first 4 episodes of the 39 episode series titled "Izenborg", and don't worry, this compilation doesn't even get to the weirder stuff!
It's made from a Japanese TV series called "Dinosaur War Izenborg". It's a little hard to find, especially with English subtitles, but it's worth a watch if you're a kaiju fan.
Holy shit lol, I remember watching this on VHS back at my grandparents' house in 1998 when I was 2 or 3, and have been wondering about just what it was I watched for years ever since. I could never find the VHS of it again after my family moved away from my grandparents (and neither could they), and all I could remember was a vague memory of some weird animated show mixed with live action dinosaurs/spaceships. I later grew up to become a Kaiju fan and an anime fan, but had totally forgotten all about this until very recently. Crazy how in some weird little way, this may have been subconsciously been an influence on my love of both genres all the way up till now. Life works in strange ways. Cool stuff though, even if it is just an American bastardization of Izenborg.
