    • @bigrythm
      @bigrythm Před 9 dny +5

@Jbrzy805 may be a warning but not an automatic ejection, especially because
it was also brought up some catchers set up closer than they should, so you can't make an auto ejection in every case. It's ridiculous. I guess hitting a player with a pitch should be an automatic ejection regardless of it being an accident. Before you say it, the reason this video comes across like the pitcher was automatic ejection is because this video conveniently leaves out that the pitcher threw a pitch at the batter prior to the hit by pitch and missed so he attempted twice, hit once, which was why ump knew there was no doubt of intent and had every right to eject the pitcher after throwing at a player twice.

I find the whole situation hilarious. Cubs batter Ian Happ inadvertently hit Cardinals catcher and former Cub Wilson Contreras with the backswing (follow through, really), leading to Contreras leaving the game (the guy who came in for him actually hit two homers this game to account for the Cardinals 3 runs), and the two embraced afterwards as a sign of friendship and to indicate that it was a clear accident and no animosity was felt. Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas, however, throws his next two pitches at Happ (the first one isn’t shown here, but it was high and inside at Happ) in retaliation (of an accident, mind you). Afterwards, the umpires got together, deemed Mikolas threw at Happ intentionally both times, leading to Mikolas’s ejection to the shock of Cardinals fans and ONLY Cardinals fans. Mikolas then starts yelling at the Cubs dugout (for some reason) while the Cubs are just laughing at the whole situation. Cardinals manager Olly Marmol was also ejected shortly afterwards for arguing with the umpire over the incident.
The best part? Ian Happ scored later in the inning on a bases loaded walk, meaning Mikolas got charged with a run. The Cubs would score twice more in the inning on a two-run double by Christopher Morel (I should probably mention that this entire sequence - starting with Happ’s at-bat - happened with two outs in the inning). The Cubs never gave up the lead in a 10-3 victory, meaning Mikolas got charged with the loss despite getting thrown out 3 batters into the game.

Theres SOOOOO much back story between the hitter Ian Happ and catcher Wilson Contreras thats not mentioned in this video, and knowing it makes what the pitcher did just SOOO much more pathetic.
To put the full story as short as possible...these 2 were teammates for their entire professional career (Contreras was already on the Cubs a few years before Happ made it up.) The year before, the Cubs were doing so poorly both of them were viewed as the Cubs biggest trade chips approaching the trade deadline and literally everyone who really follows baseball expected both to be gone that July. Both were given standing ovations in what was believed to be their final home game as a Cub. Both were very emotional and waved goodbye to fans and left the field together. Theres a dozen interviews with the 2 as their expected final days as Cubs got closer and closer.
August 1st comes around and unbelievably both were still on the team.
Fast forward to that off season. Happ signed an extension for the Cubs, Contreras hit free agency and signed with the Cardinals.
Barely a few months after that, this episode happens. And it's not like Mikolas didn't know at least some of the history between the 2. The Cubs and Cardinals are to each other as the Yankees are to the Red Sox.
And the poetic justice ever happened in this game...Happ takes 1st base and would end up scoring a run that inning and because Mikolas was responsible for Happ reaching base, his run was charged to Mikolas...the Cubs would eventually go on to win the game. And Mikolas, who had only thrown like 5 pitches was ultimately charged with the loss of the game. And 1 thing not shown in this clip...Mikolas's 1st pitch after everything happened was a 94 mph that nearly hit Happ in the head. It was his 2nd pitch that hit Happ. Mikolas would go on to claim the ball just "slipped" out of his hand the 1st time.
    It was fucking beautiful.

I know it’s hard to imagine that something happened outside of the 20 seconds you saw of the game. But to all of the people bitching about how the pitcher shouldn’t have been ejected, the hit you saw was his second time hitting the batter within two pitches. There has been a growing problem with catchers trying to make umpires think that a ball is actually a strike by quickly moving their glove into the strike zone after making a catch, which they do by getting incredibly close to the batter so it’s harder for the umpire to see what’s going on. This is simply another example of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes.” Stop acting like it’s some huge event. It does not matter

Number one rule in batting is to keep both hands on the bat. You lose power in the swing. I learned that in little league. The bat isnt a weapon? And the catcher got hit in the head vs a ball to the butt. All the pitchers call the pitches, so it wasnt even him making that call. The batter has control of what happens in the swing. Plus this swing to the catchers has been goin on more often this season than ever.

Contreras caused this issue. He sets up closer to the plate to try to frame the pitch. That was a normal follow through on Happ’s swing. This has been a worsening issue since last season.

Gotta disagree on that. First angle isn't great, but it certainly looks like batter's foot is on or over the back barrier of the batter's box that of course has been rubbed out. Second angle looks pretty clear that catcher's glove is behind the same line. Been far too long the first batters up have been allowed to rub out that line. Catchers are getting hurt as a result.

It's how Contreras got his arm fractured. He even said he's gonna keep setting up that close to the plate when he comes back because framing is part of the game now. It's why he wasn't upset with Happ here.
The ridiculous part here is the Cardinals retaliating because they know where their catchers are setting up. This wasn't something to retaliate against.

Should just be you leave 2 hands on the bat. If not, you can take a hand off, but if you make contact with the catcher it is an automatic end of inning

Ancient storm years about 12 years old I can tell that so I’m not going to hurt your feelings too badly but if you watch the video of the batter slipped his wrist and then he hit the catcher in the head. The picture purposely threw the ball at his balls. If you watch the video is the battery didn’t move it was going straight for his balls so once again, Child stop acting like you know what happened because at the end of the day you’re about 12 years old and you’ve never played baseball in your life.

  • @michaelchalkerify

I see all these comments saying the pitcher is acting like a child. I guarantee the batter knew what was going to happen. If a catcher is directly injured in anyway from another player, that player will be getting thrown at by the pitcher. If the batter didn’t know he wouldn’t have taken the hit. It’s a rule. The fact they threw him out over it implies the umpires believed he would throw at other players relating to the incident which is why the announcers freaked the fuck out.😊

Punishment could or should be handed out by major league in the form of a fine or suspension if there are repeat offences. They can not allow retribution by throwing at a player intentionally. This has occurred several times this year and it needs to be addressed, but not with more potentiona harm.
