"Adams feeling real optimistic"
"I'm feeling really optimistic"
KibYT Best part, lol.
Apparently he's feeling optimistic
Hmm yes this ground is made out of ground
Sausige17
Your pfp isn’t
Wait a minute! I smell air!
Never bring a 90° gun to a 0° gun fight.
...unless the fight's round corners XD.
Jim Taylor just around the corner...
Or a 360° fight
Kamomile Tea haha, that could work!
Kamomile Tea In a 360 i would i win against a 90 degree. Infact i bet money
- "Soldier, take your 90° rifle and shoot around that corner!"
- "But Sir my barrel is bent 90° to the right, for this corner is need a barrel bent to the left!"
- "Then just get upside down!"
Cheburushka damn give me a marine. Order them to do something and they will get it done without the excuses, now soldier just grab the barrel and bend it back to the left.
Could just hold the gun upside down...
*bends spine upside down and leftwards to shoot right*
AYE SIR
Heh isreal made a flexible and it works quite well and looks sci-fi af.
@Markus Reigns I'm too late, But... r/woooosh
I remember being 7 years old and watching the first episode of Mythbusters, they asked for viewer submitting and after begging my mom to help me submit a possible myth to the Mythbusters (at the time my favorite show and still holds a close place in my heart).... my question came from the first Harry Potter movie where Hagrid bends Harry's uncle's shotgun barrel 90° upward.... I was so curious to see what would happen.... so glad they eventually tested it.
How about a 180 degree barrel for youtube commenters?
+Vaas Montenegro well that one backfired
+Vaas Montenegro darude - sandstorm
Hi Vaas
+Vaas Montenegro just do a 360 and walk away
oooooohh, shots fired!
0:48 - My physics teacher's reaction when she sees my lab record
bruh lol
Lol
Just multiply all of your uncertainties by two.
Bro-
Hah. that’s just wrong.
This has a Looney Tunes feel to it. They should stamp it "ACME".
That’s true for a lot of stuff these guys do
Germany actually experimented with something like this during ww2
STG44 Krummlauf
they used guns with bent barrels in WW1 for trench fighting.
That's what I was looking up
jamoecw they also had a few experiments using it with tanks
The Germans made for Tank destroyer crews because on the Elephant they forgot to put a Bow machine gun on it. They made them in 45 and 90 degree variants. The 90 degree was more popular, but because of the extra rifling and time in the barrel it would cause the bullet to heat up really bad and the bullet would shatter, it resulted in a shotgun effect. Which didn't matter because they were shooting at Russians climbing there Tank trying to pour gasoline down the tank destroyers hatches and then light the thing on fire.
During WWII some Stg-44s were equipped with 45 and 90 degree bends. 90 degree barrels where mounted in some German tanks to shoot soviets off the top of them or close range fire.
dude, my name is Logan Barnett. how are our names so similiar?
hi
I was literally about to comment that :D
Logan Barnette Germans once again inventing stuff with zeo practical use towards winning an actual war.
you don't know much about germany, do you?
Didn't the Germans in ww2 invent a curved gun like this?
edit: Jesus it's been five-plus years since I've posted this and this is the most likes I've ever gotten on any media platform. It's not even that good of a comment lol I was 15 or 16 years old when I said this and I'm pretty sure I knew the answer already!
Ya the krummlauf.
Ja, but by accident. It was used primarily in the tank battles of the Eastern German front. Germany made the mistake of not putting a machine gun on top of their Tiger tanks. The Soviets exploited this and started climbing on top of the Tiger tanks to destroy them. The Germans remedied this by using their curved guns. These guns were so made that the bullet, upon the curve, would shatter. This gave the gun a shotgun effect, making it perfect for keeping those pesky Soviet soldiers off the tanks.
Nathan Applegate
Though the shattering of the bullet wasn't a design-feature. more an unplanned but pleasant regularly occuring surprise^^
Nathan Applegate Minor Correction; it was actually the Ferdinand Tank Destroyer, which used the otherwise usless chassis of the Tiger prototype build by Porsche, repurposed for Tank Destroyers and Self-Propelled Guns when Henschel won the Contract for the Tiger which we know today.
Though eventually the Ferdinand was upgraded to the Elefant Tank Destroyer, which did little else but add the missing Coaxial MG.
The Krummlauf was actually a barrel accessory for the StG 44 which was one of the first assault rifles.
the "commercial" is my favorite part of this
0:53 remember me about tom and Jerry.
This would work much better with a smooth bore musket and round ball ammunition. No wonder the bullet tumbles, it's being formed to the contour of the barrel, which is curved. It's probably getting a lot of material stripped off the bullet by the rifling while having to make a hard turn, as well.
+Tombs Clawtooth and many instances, it shatters the bullet, making it fire like a shotgun. It was a good thing for close quarter though, so the Germans didn't complain.
+Tombs Clawtooth hey, I saw you on the last mythbusters video
+Tombs Clawtooth good luck ramming it down XD
Mother Yiffer
Yeah that would definitely be pretty damn hard with a muzzleloader, though in theory you could also do this with a breechloader that just has a smooth barrel and a cartridge with a ball-shaped bullet. Might take a bit more effort, but it would be more likely to be successful I think.
Duck Hunting *twist* Fish hunting! *twist*
I'm going to pass out from laughing XD
+Joshua Benton
LOL Me too. XD
This comment made me watch the whole vid xD
It's supposed to look like a sideways face of a person passing out from laughing. Get with it smh
I had not laugh like this since the last year I think
did anyone else loose it when jamie started spinning the barrel at the end?
How did you know that his anus is loose?
Asking the real question here..
I hope no one
Im getting a cursed halo sniper backflash right know...
Ur mom
"Adam's feeling real optimistic"
"I'm starting to feel real optimistic"
Damn, I wonder how Adam feels about this
Let's ask adam
The world may never know.
my best guess? optimistic
jamie at the end is freaking funny XD
This reminds me of that meme where Tom the cat shoves a double-barrel into Jerry's house hole and it angles right back at his head through another hole on top
just like in da shoah
Who says Tom the cat
will a 180 degree work so i can give my mother in law one
Rhandy XD
E D G Y
Theres guns that are designed where the gun folds around corners with a camera to boot. A hinged gun if youd think about it.
Rhandy lol
We can speak about it..
Narrator: Adam's feeling real optimistic
Adam: I'm starting to feel real optimistic
thanks for that narrator
LOL "curved ammo not included"
‘That’s just wrong’
Acute observation
Nah, it's a right observation
get out.
Zaeen Camil never
0:51 "I'm ready for you assholes!"
"Dry up Dursley you old prune!"
They should've tried it with a double barrel pointed upwards
That's what brought me here lol.
"Adams feeling real optimistic"
"I'm starting to feel real optimistic"
I wonder how they got to that conclusion
Ikr they had no proof he was optimistic
I would have never expected that to work. Mythbusters, your science is an inspiration to all of us.
0:18 barrel-ly inches after leaving the gun the bullet began to tumble.
theshuman100 I heard the exact same thing lol
So the Germans modeled a gun after the episode of Tom and Jerry, when Tom tries to put the shotgun into the mouse hole then it curved right back at him.
These things were used it ww2 to discourage anyone trying to climb on a armored vehicle. Not much point in a tank if you have to stick your head out to shoot someone, so they had these bent assault rifle attachments that you could stick out from a viewing port and possibly hit someone crawling around on top of the tank or at least get them to jump off.
Yep, this was meant for point blank range so keyholing bullets and such weren't that big of a deal. It was still an unpractical design though and the barrels life plummeted to a couple hundred rounds at most before catastrophic failure
im actually happy this popped up in my recommendation tab once again, and god i miss these guys lol
“Hans I have an idea”
The end commerical was just perfect
I haven't seen the whole episode so I don't know if this was already mentioned but during ww2 the germans had a barrel attachment for their STG 44 assault rifle called the Krummlauf (german for curved barrel) and it was bent so german troops could shoot around corners and over cover it also included a mirror to help with aiming
2:23 Bent Barrel Gun Commercial
"Dry up, Dursley, you great prune!"
Lmfao that promo at the end though
This concept HAS been used before!
In fact I believe there was a gun in WWII that used this, but they wore down extremely fast, being machine guns
I feel like the curve should be smoother/symetrical for a better result
The problem is any curve in the barrel will deform the bullet and make it impossible to fly straight. Curved rifle barrels were actually experimented with during ww2 and found to be virtually useless after only a few rounds.
Lol I love how they are shooting a picture of Adam.
0:48 huh, that's Just wrong
I think it was more of a "heh" XD
More like hah
Indeed
2:30 when I have a flat one xD
The Krummlauf was a barrel accessory used for the German STG-44 assault rifle at the end of World War II. It was meant to be used as a means to shoot around corners, and shoot from the relative safety of the inside of a tank to fend off enemies who had clambered on. The Krummlauf had a few different variants for different angles of fire, including a 90 degree angle. It even had a periscope system to accurately aim.
Germany did it back in the 1930's with a STG34 Krummlauf . They even placed segmented mirrors along the barrel in three places so they could even use the sights. It curved left.
It seems to me that this could be made more effective with specialized ammo- if you had a round bullet instead of a tapered one, the tumble wouldn't affect the penetration as much. Though you might end up getting curving bullets with the spin.
"....It's still lethal. How cool is that?" I miss the Mythbusters.
0:52 the way it peeks over the corner xD
I suspect the rifling was completely compromised causing the tumbling action as the bullet leaves the barrel
After 5 years I’m back and I don’t regret it at all
Same
I wonder if it can do 360 degrees
+iliketowin win skrub
+iliketowin win
As pointless as it would be, it'd be pretty darn epic, now also make the barrel of something that is transparent so you can actually ''see'' the bullet.
TheBoltMaster I know that, otherwise I think we'd be using it by now ;)
+iliketowin win You mean 180. 360 is just a straight shot with a loop in the middle
Awsisa zeen uh... 360 is a whole circle, so yeah, but 180 is literally a suicide gun.
I think the point was a barrel that did a loop, and then went out the right direction.
In the 2.WW Germany actually produced these type of Barrel(attachment) in the 45Degree Version for the Tank Crew of the Ferdinads and the 90Degree Version for the Infantry in Stalingrad to better/easier shoot around the Corners of Buildings.
But there was an slight sideffect the Bullet turned into Fragments and you got an Shotgung with the Firingspeed of Machinepistol
It wasn’t used in stalingrad
"That's just wrong" XD
It's wabit season
Terry Goodkind I love you
Can you shoot a bullet around a corner?
Cod players be like: LOL of course, we knew that already.
Germans actually did this In ww2, the bullets they used actually fragmented inside the barrel and acted like a shotgun, not very effective but was a prototype that was scrapped after a few field tests.
Brings a whole new meaning to cornet peek
They should put this gun in MW 2019 as an easter egg.
They should have a multiplayer mode where players can only use curved barrel guns
That would end up being OP though. Campers would become invincible.
I'm gay
I thought this was a really hot barrel, not a 90 degree angle.
Thanks for the info mate
Also the krummlauf experiment was scrapped because they were not reliable and too brittle!
I was expecting RAID SHADOW LEGENDS when he said sponsor
I miss this show already... *sad*
This is the best idea I've ever seen on mythbusters. How about testing it with a larger caliber?
Thank you myth busters, for allowing many easy classes at school on the days we watched your show lol
0:53 "peek a boo"
The germans made a functional model of this for the MP44 or STG44 OR MKBH42 !
BACK IN 1942 !
Functional, not effective
if i remember, they would actually break after a few bullets, and that the 45 degrees one was the only one that didnt break after a few rounds
I can imagine a guy robbing a gas station and putting a barrel in the mailbox slot.
StG44 Krummlauf Barrel !!!
remember, this is no German engineering. So imagine how effective it was for the German's curved barrel MP44 in close quarter.
You could just blind fire over or around any obstacles. This is a neat little trick, but it's really nothing more than that.
WimsicleStranger Remember, the Germans made a scope for the curved barrel, blind fire still exposes your hand, and you can't aim for shit.
+WimsicleStranger The Germans developed the curved barrel on the STG-44 in WWII to use on the Eastern front for tank crews. The idea was if Soviet troops got on top of the tank and attempted to drop a grenade or shoot inside, a crewman in the tank could point his STG out the hatch and shoot 360 degrees around without having to come out of the tank. Of course, it didn't work very well and by the time the Germans started developing it, they already had logistical issues and started losing ground in the East.
+TheLouisianan They made a 90 degree version for tank crews and a 45 degree version for infantry, so they could shoot around corners in buildings and streets.
+WimsicleStranger Ye, it wasn't very blind fire, the german stg44 curved barrel also had a periscope.
perfect for shooting competitions
I died when Jamie said "That's just wrong"
i guess you could say that barrel-ly worked
This is how the guns in CS:GO behave.
this is the guns you unlock when you attain 300ms ping, getting shot behind walls
"Dry up dursley you old prune"
*curves barrel up*
*boom*
It's not really the question of if it can shoot at 45° or 90°. The real question is how long can the barrel withstand the pressure.
amy shumer is not a whale *MYTH BUSTERS*
Do you guys know what this video reminds me of?
Tom and Jerry 🤣🤣
Every single enemy I go up against in multiplayer cod has these 😂😂
Myth confirmed. Good job guys. You are crazy myth busters
Am I the only one reminded of Harry Potter by this?
nawww freakin hagrid
WHOS YOUR DADY? HAHAHAHAHA! XD
So the whole 30 mins episode is literally just 2 mins and 22 seconds when the crap is all cut.
The 30 minutes is showing how they make the thing.
imagine seeing the barrel of a gun through a corner aiming at you
I remember this show
I used to watch it since about ten years ago
I mean, the Germans did it. And when were the Germans ever wrong?
Um yes. Yes they were. At least few times.
The Nazi's already tested this in WWII.
The germans
Yes, the German army that took orders from Nazis. Also known as Nazis.
Lieselotte Aya Why do we say "the Nazis," but not "the Communists?"
We say "the Soviets," or "the Russians."
Lieselotte Aya Stop pretending Germany was the bad guy in Europe.
They were led by Mister Rogers compared to the USSR.
When did I express support or sympathy for Stalin and Lenin? The USSR was by no means a fun place, but the Nazis tortured and murdered children and the disabled, and everyone in Germany let it happen because of nationalism. Nazi leaders turned eugenics into patriotism, and that should never be excused, nor should the people who reported their neighbors to be sent to their deaths.
The issue with the wobbling is due to the rifling in the barrel being crushed together on one side. You have more pressure on the left side of the gun, putting spin on the bullet, than you do on the right.
This is exactly the kind of video you watch at 2AM before your exam
It makes me laugh when they talk about wheter a .22 LR bullet is "still lethal" or not. It's hardly even reliable to kill people who put it against their temple.
+Antonín Svoboda The Mob might disagree.
.22 is preferred. it's quiet and can be suppressed to the point you can only hear the slide hitting the end of its rails. you don't know anything
The people who put it to their temple don't know that you can survive without the front half of your brain.
.22LR is actually just as deadly as any other. if you think it will "barely" kill on someone's temple, then you know nothing about guns. plus their are LOTS of different kinds of .22. some doing 4000 feet per second. keep in mind that the 223 used in 90% of AR platforms is just .001 larger than a .22
I said .22LR, not .223. And yes, a massacre in finland was commited with a .22LR. I'm just saying it's severely underpowered, and that you wouldn't call a sharp stick or a pencil "lethal", even if its wounding potential is probably more or same like most .22LR,
Nice hillbilly gun sales joke.
Warning : liberals the gun sales promotion in this Mythbusters episode is a joke not a serious promotional commercial.
That guy for 2a defend the constitution Warning.... Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage are liberals...
Nop,I bouht it
DEATHBYFLYINGCDS
Yeah, you can tell they're liberals by the fact that they're worried what they're doing might not be legal.
If you're worried about breaking the law before you even break the law, or even have anything to do with the limits of the law, you're probably a liberal.
Then again..... the ATF might be bored, and we don't know that they wouldn't consider this "shortening" a barrel, which they consider to be a "crime."
"You see those warriors from Mythbusters? They’ve got curved guns. Curved. Guns."
Fun fact during world war 2 the allies and axis experimented with 90 degree and 45 degree bent barrels to shoot around corners but they didn’t make a lot of them because the barrel need to be replaced a lot and was very unneeded because a regular gun would be much easier to use and less costly
lookin like Hogarth Hughes gun in Iron Giant 😂😂
Germans in the forties: Kraumlauf
Americans: curved barrel myth?
Looks like my ruger .44 carbine.. love that gun..
The army created a 90-degree curved barrel for the M1 submachine. I was told it was intended for tankers. When the tank was buttoned up, one of the tankers could stick that curved barrel out a hole and shoot any enemy soldiers off the top of the tank, an impossible angle for a straight barrel.
Tom and Jerry's Tom cat already did 180 degree gun chalange
They should’ve made custom rifling for the curved barrel
2:17 Adam got a wound in the process.
They actually make a gun called the corner shot. Its a rifle with a pistol mounted at the end and a camera. So you can see around a corner with a pistol while not even risking a finger.
Ian did a look-see on a Belgian over-under bullpup shotgun. The sleek hunting rifle profile is maintained with bent barrels.
