To me this song is about somebody so cool that everybody can’t help but express how much they like that person. The only issue is the person is so used to hearing it over and over again that it just melds together into a mass of ‘I like yous’ and they can’t help but wonder if anybody actually likes them… they then slowly start losing it.

Everyone is saying how creepy and unsettling this song is for me I just LOVE hearing it especially the “unsettling” parts like “does anybody like me?” The music changes at that part and I love that “everybody likes you!” Changes to “everybody lied to you!” Perfecto!
Even better part is that at the beginning you can clearly hear what they’re saying but farther into the song the words become stopped or slurred and messed up making it sound less genuine
@@Maya-cb8sj I think thats the point. Even the "I like you! I like you!"starts getting distorted. I love how this song plays with your hearing. Everybody likes you. Everybody liked you. Everybody lied to you.
I relate to this song. Not to the words but to the music. Feels like desperately trying to hold onto happiness in sad times. That’s not what I’m going through, but I still feel I can relate to it through the song, if that makes sense.
From my perspective I interpret it as someone who feeds off of people liking them, it keeps them going but deep down they feel like no one likes them at all even though they are constantly being told people like them. But nothing is enough. And they will do ANYTHING for people to like them and to constantly get praised. Other wise they will feel like they don’t matter. Its like it gets to the point where they are pretending to be someone else so people still say they like them. (this is exactly how I feel)
The fact that this was composed with the lyrics of "Everybody likes you!" And "I like you!" And "does anybody like me?" And distorted enough to sound like different lyrics, provided by Neil and the carebares gives us enough evidence that Neil is powerful enough to take over the world with music alone. 2023 EDIT: man I hate myself for this comment
This song creeps me out so bad. Like, the further intro the song you go, the more it sounds like they’re desperately trying to keep themselves sane, clinging onto that last bit of hope saying that people still love and care about them. They drown themselves in happiness and yet it does nothing to stop the creeping feeling that something is wrong. Then when you get to the end of the song, they’re spiraling. Falling out of control and into the fantasy world they’ve created to keep themself happy. The “everybody likes you” sounds so fake, especially as it slowly morphs into “everybody lied to you”, the person telling themself that no matter how much they say it it doesn’t mean anything. TLDR: this song gives me the creeps
Some people say this causes anxiety or is creepy, but that's because your only visual is an aged VHS of Care Bears. But I bet if one were to put this over gameplay footage of Jet Set Future you'd call it a funky beat.
I'm probably looking too deep into this, but this song honestly seems like it's about depression, from a couple different angles. You could look at it from the perspective of someone who's depressed, and the constant reiteration of "everybody likes you" and the idea that "you just need to cheer up" or "think positive", reinforced by the cheery tone. Eventually that cheery tone and the message distorts from repetition and it just seems empty, the people saying it don't mean it any more, they're just saying it because they don't know what else to do. Alternatively, it could be from the perspective of the people saying it to the depressed person, and the distortion eventually represents how they don't know what else to do besides say it more in the face of the depressed person resolutely continuing to be depressed, convinced nobody likes them, even in the face of all the apparent evidence to the contrary. Neil Cicerega; creating thought-provoking analysis from three lines from the Care Bears and some damn fine music.
You're just extrapolating the theme and overall facet of human communication with 3 simple words dude. It's simply a term. The term can have many connotations but only one intended context. You put the context YOU believe unto the 3 words, making them however you emotionally feel from listening to them. Now the rhythm, tempo etc will change your perspective on the music before you- but simply put- we make the meaning to what we hear. To understand the meaning of a song you must deduce a concrete notion or theme from listening before you can fully assume something without levee.
Yeah this came out when I was going through some heavy shit with hard hitting depression. I related to this song so strongly because of this very interpretation.
To me, this song sort of reminds me of the intense desire felt to be perfect for everyone around you, getting that validation and in turn continuing to strive for it, no matter how exhausted you are.
This is what Raymond hears in his daily life edit: everyone is thinking i mean the bitch from animal crossing i was making a reference to neils song "everybody loves raymond"
i’m never good enough no matter how hard i try. i was so gifted as a kid. i was in high ability and honors. i had all straight a’s. nobody cares anymore. i’m still so smart but i’m never good enough. i feel so smart because i’m super above grade level. but then i see someone that’s above me and i instantly feel horrible. everybody likes them. nobody likes me. i get degraded by all my friends and peers because they say i’m an attention seeking pick-me girl. i’m not a fucking pick-me. i need reassurance because i get lost in my own mind and overthink. i bottle everything up and then i spill like an overflowing bathtub. it all comes rushing down like an avalanche. everybody likes them, not me. it’s starting to feel like the only person will ever understand or care about me is my therapist. she’s been my main big supporter since i was 9. i’m losing hope and i’m so close to breaking. i’m so close to lashing out on my loved ones and people i look up to. i’m tired of being treated like shit. i deserve better than this. i’m going to snap soon.
I personally listen to this when I feel my mental health slipping so that when I start getting in the stage of questioning if I'm loved then it's just people screaming in my ears "EVERYBODY LIKES YOU"
This song reminds me of what Bojack Horseman is about, not the downward spiral into ruining your life part, but the famous part. Throughout the whole show, Bojack never really knows who his friends ARE, and as he himself says: "Then you're going to realize, everybody loves you, but nobody likes you..." To be universally loved, is terrifying, people love the *image* of you, but they don't actually love *you.* It's a hell in it's own right, and I do not envy the famous whatsoever, to be loved at all to me is terrifying.
everyone's comparing this to depression n stuff but im being personal as fuck and comparing this to the feeling of idolization and the uncanny, uncomfortable feeling of being treated like a god by your peers while having the feeling that everybody is collectively lying to you and doing such to make you feel better about yourself, only to come to the sickening realization that you're lying to yourself about that and they're sadly being genuine
Everybody is saying this creeps them out but it makes me happy for some reason? Its sounds like if you put Skittles in a washing machine and that's A vibe I live for.

i swear everytime I come across something niel did it's like "WAIT HE MADE THIS TOO??". Mans got a stamp on every corner of the internet.
Everything leads back to neil
I need more songs like this, hyperpop and only one line. Something that fills a brain and helps not to think.
things neil has taught me:
everybody likes me
everybody loves raymond
And the pick up trucks are having sex
And that I'm the one who was right all along, and that it's better to be laughed at than wrong
I've also learned that I've got some falling to do
That I'm the eighth wonder of the world
Conclusion: I am Raymond
There needs to be a video for this - something colorful, complicated, kaleidoscopic, and totally insane, bordering on disturbing
I'm imagining spiraling into a doom kaleidoscope with hundreds of spinning faces mouthing the words with manic, pained smiles on their faces.

Perfect song to listen to after all your friends abandon you
Everyone is saying how creepy and unsettling this song is for me I just LOVE hearing it especially the “unsettling” parts like “does anybody like me?” The music changes at that part and I love that “everybody likes you!” Changes to “everybody lied to you!” Perfecto!
Maaaan. Eventually it becomes so repetitive and hollow that the false message really shines right in your face.
Even better part is that at the beginning you can clearly hear what they’re saying but farther into the song the words become stopped or slurred and messed up making it sound less genuine
I feel like it starts saying “everybody lied to you”
@@Maya-cb8sj I think thats the point. Even the "I like you! I like you!"starts getting distorted. I love how this song plays with your hearing. Everybody likes you.
Everybody liked you. Everybody lied to you.
I had a dream last night that Neil offered me to collab and I wake up to this madness.
Guess the collab went well then.
JR Mitchell You encountered Neil in the astral plane and made this, congrats
If you can just remember ten more details about the dream, you'll probably have secured the sequel collab!
Out of all the songs you could have made, why use care bear clips

This is a #relatable moment for me.
Beside the pretending to be someone else that's only 20% true. I just copy personalities I like cause I got the autism.
@@Ceeaad hello fellow person with autism
The fact that this was composed with the lyrics of
"Everybody likes you!"
And "I like you!" And "does anybody like me?" And distorted enough to sound like different lyrics, provided by Neil and the carebares gives us enough evidence that Neil is powerful enough to take over the world with music alone.

*does anybody like me?*

Some people say this causes anxiety or is creepy, but that's because your only visual is an aged VHS of Care Bears. But I bet if one were to put this over gameplay footage of Jet Set Future you'd call it a funky beat.
my brain has decided to play this every time I have a panic attack which just makes it infinitely worse

Neil Cicerega; creating thought-provoking analysis from three lines from the Care Bears and some damn fine music.
woah...

For some reason I can hear both "Everybody lied to you" And "Everybody likes you", I can change it to one or the other in the song, Pretty cool!
This song reminds me of what Bojack Horseman is about, not the downward spiral into ruining your life part, but the famous part.
Throughout the whole show, Bojack never really knows who his friends ARE, and as he himself says:
"Then you're going to realize, everybody loves you, but nobody likes you..."
To be universally loved, is terrifying, people love the *image* of you, but they don't actually love *you.*
It's a hell in it's own right, and I do not envy the famous whatsoever, to be loved at all to me is terrifying.
everyone's comparing this to depression n stuff but im being personal as fuck and comparing this to the feeling of idolization and the uncanny, uncomfortable feeling of being treated like a god by your peers while having the feeling that everybody is collectively lying to you and doing such to make you feel better about yourself, only to come to the sickening realization that you're lying to yourself about that and they're sadly being genuine
