Have you ever wanted to try the polished stone technique? This crafting method allows you to create beautiful cards and projects using re-inkers or ink pads and rubbing alcohol. With this guide, you’ll learn all the basics of the polished stone technique and get nine card-making ideas for inspiration!
To get started using the polished stone technique, you’ll need a few supplies.
👉 Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
👉 Cotton Balls
👉 Re-inkers or Ink Pads
👉 Clear Blocks
As for tools to help with the crafting process, I am going to suggest you have something to protect your table like a silicone mat, an old towel, and rubber or latex glove (optional but you will thank me).
❓ If you have been stamping for a long time, do you remember this technique? What are your thoughts on creating it with ink pads rather than ink refills? Which method do you prefer? Share your thoughts!

Awesome techniques and tips! Very pretty cards! :)
Polly, I am so glad you like them.
Wow, what a great technique, I have not heard of this before.😍
Maria, Thanks so much 😊
Wow. Love them all, especially the shimmers. I use a cutting mat from the dollar store when I stamp or glue anything. And you get 2 in a pack. I've kinda did similar with ink sprays or markers. Will have to try this using cotton balls. Have more control of color. You have me thinking... which is good for my old brain. Lol Thanks for Sharing. Love all you do.
Laura, thank you for your support.
Great technique!
Margene, Thank you!
Oven liners are a great way to protect your surface. They cover a really large area too!
Kristi, Great tip!
This reminds me of a technique from years ago. I think it was Dee Gruenig from Posh Impressions that first did this. Thanks for the reminder!
Rani, thank you for watching.
Very Cool!!!
Judi, thanks!
great technique
Gloria, Thank you!
This is what I have been thinking on for those specialty papers. How to add color to brighten them up. I said when I recieved the shimmer paper that I would like to have it in more colors. I thought about using blending brushes but this technique provides more choices in finished colors. Thanks. I like the new method much better.
Edith, I am so glad you like it.
Hiiiiii Connie!
Thanks for sharing this technique which I had forgotten all about. I really need a journal with the old techniques because the vast majority of cards these days focus on dies; which I don't use.
These are all sooooo pretty!
What's fun is that my headphones are glitching so I am reading the auto-captions and they crack me up with the different words they use for "vellum." xo
Shala, I love dies. I think they add something extra to cards.
@@simplysimplestamping The do! I just don't have anywhere to set mine up.
❤
Thanks for watching.
You just gave me an idea! Off to see if it works 😂
I love this. Have fun.
I've never seen this technique before. TFS. Looking forward to trying this. Have you tried the technique on watercolor paper?
Evelyn, I have not. I would just recommend you give it a try on a scrap piece.
Awesome @Connie I have lots of photo paper that I will ever use. Can I stamp on it? It is all glossy. Excited to see my Celebration order any day 🥰
Tammy, you can try it. I would just try it and see.
@@simplysimplestamping Thank you!
I love all the techniques. Does the percent on the alcohol matter? I think I have some in the 70's percent. Thank you ❤️
No, not to my knowledge.
Interesting - thanks for this tutorial! Might this work with alcohol ink & omit the alcohol & ink pad? I purchased some alcohol inks on sale recently & have few ideas on how to use them!
Monica, it might. I would suggest using scrap paper first to try it.
Question! When adding color to vellum, did you use the back side of the vellum to apply the color or color over the metallic print on the front? If the color is applied over the metallic print does the print not accept the color at all?😮❤
Great question. I think my best recommendation is to cut a small piece and try each way and see what works best for you.
Can you use the water paint brushes with alcohol in them & dip in ink on a block to be kinda like alcohol blends???
Katie, I don't know why not. Try it on scrap paper.
Would this technique work on dsp
Louise, you would have to practice it on a scrap piece.
Hello from nj
Hi Virginia, thank you for watching.
Thanks
Can I use any kind of ink?? Like for example, could I use distress ink???
I would suggest you try it on scrap paper first.
