Mr salles cooking while we are all cooked

Just make a story about how your cooking some good food in the kitchen and analyse and zoom in on the spatula .such as the shiny , smooth , and glossy spatula was like a magical wand . With just one touch it cooked food to perfection

I fully agree with you about anotating what a waste of time,i always see students highlighting carefully and writing on the extract and then they dont have time to write anything about them
Nah I do it quick and I was on a grade 8 in my last mocks. Annotating for Q2 and Q4 is key but do it really fast so you have a plan. As for highlighting that’s bs I agree.
I wholeheartedly agree with the statement he's both a good teacher and a handsome block
A solid block!

cooked so hard he needed a spatula to teach us
Just finished the paper and I’m so glad I watched this video beforehand! In my mind I had an image of Mr Salles with a spatula chanting ‘Don’t stop to think and keep writing!’ and managed to write a massive chunk for Q5- way more than my mocks! I’m worried it’s not very original so I’m hoping the sheer volume of it will carry me through 😂
Good luck everyone, that spatula will be our guide!
Good luck!!
thanks Mr salles, this helped a lot! wrote a sick q5 about a natural space documentary for the description.
Excellent!
For question5 i wrote a story about 2 gents who have to go to a wedding. The gents were myself and Big John. I had to go to a dry cleaners to xollect our suits, but the dry cleaner man, Mr. Griffin, lost the waist coats, so i had an argument with him. Then Big John turned up in the Boshmobile, and i ran out of time so i left it on a cliffhanger and 'to be continued...'
Chinese!? LET’S ‘AVE IT!!
I love the editing haha!!
And this is why we all love Mr Salles! 😇
All the best everyone for Paper 1 tomorrow!

Really appreciate the vids, just made an account to say thank you
Thank you!
ok “joined 2 years ago” 😂😂
thank you! your video is the one i played before the exam and it helped me a lot with confidence. For question 5 i didn't do my best work but roughly wrote about a girl who was a 'dreamer' in the sense that she was always in the library, which her dad disagreed with. her biggest dream being to be a pirate and then skipping a bit forward her dad was telling her off for being in the library when she told him her plan and got up to walk away. their argument was dialogue just repeated "yes" and "no" before she walked off. i didn't get to put what i wanted as a last sentence but was still able to leave it on a cliffhanger. Do you thunk that that was enough for the argument because it was only brief and occured at the end, though I guess you could argue that they were arguing the whole time in terms of their beliefs and attitude towards things. the no yes conversation was the only dialogue spoken aloud however.
No idea, but I expect so
HEY GUYS! If anyone's up for it, here's a practice Q5 I did for you guys to mark. Marking always helps you improve! :)
The rickety frames of the old house looked as though they were about to fall. There was not a single plank of wood on that unimpressive roof without some type of damage. Tapping my wet boots on the dry concrete path, I made my way towards the shed. The lacklustre appearance of the shed contrasted with the sprawling fields in every direction. The lackadaisical lump of dirt, directly next to the house, lay carelessly as the gentle wind breathed through it. The rain had stopped for the last few days allowing the sparse sunshine to illuminate the prairie. Every flower, which was once gulping for breath under the merciless onslaughts of constant rain, had now blossomed. The mountains were as colossal as ever, like snow-capped guardians watching over the peaceful prairie. Every object in view seemed at harmony - except the house.
The wooden structure, which showed signs of once being an ornate and well-decorated building, looked empty. It seemed as if the previous owners had taken away every item alongside the memories and moments shared inside it; leaving it barren. Frighteningly, the two large windows on each end coupled with the wide, steel door in the centre made the house seem like an indignant creature. A creature who had been abandoned and forgotten. The long forgotten house was covered in years and years of 'art' left by reckless teenagers but the steel door looked impeccable (as if it had just been installed). Carefully prising the door open, I stepped in.
After taking some seconds to register my surroundings, I began walking to the centre of the room like a moth to the flame. The insipid features of the empty room contrasted heavily with the masterpiece lying directly in the centre.
It was a piece of art like no other.
Its ornate framing glinted in the few rays of light which shone upon it. The vibrancy of the paint, the detail of the shapes and the flawless composition left me absolutely dumbfounded. Carefully, I used the tips of my fingers to feel the frame which was engrained with floral patterns and encrusted with what seemed to be gold. It was gold. Possibly the purest gold I had ever seen. This gold was not just on the frame but every little detail on the luscious painting was made with gold.
I took five steps backwards and stared at the painting in awe. It was an angel, bright with the light of its candour, surrounded by a blissful darkness.
It truly was a masterpiece.
if I was an examiner 40/40
Thats a great piece of writing that would almost certainly gain very high marks. The only thing I'd say is that it could use some more sensory language such as about sound or smell.

100% use it!
in this extract, Mr Salles' repetition of the adjective 'ridiculous' emphasises his frustration at the inadequacy of the lighting...
Perfect- that’s what an explanation looks like
additionally, the imagery of “cooking” is implemented to portray his skill set, and how he will guide us as readers to achieving our own personal gsce utopia
@@TheBuffestOfClarencesthe extended metaphor of 'cooking' also implies that he, as a sentient being, is in charge of the food (the exam) and not the other way around, thus supporting his belief that, in the exam, he is the boss

The boisterous demeanour, the outward utilization of hand gestures, and the silver-beaming spatula, all amalgamate into a compelling video. Excellent production, sir!
For Q4, I suppose it isn't a transgression to have 1-2 PEE sentences/ideas per mini paragraph. If you don't have any objections to this sir, I'll do this tomorrow.

YOU ARE THE GOAT I WAS ON GRADE 3S AND I THINK I MIGHT GET A 7 OR 8
Good luck 🤞
I did quite bad on this paper, didn't write much on Q2 and Q3, but did Q4 and Q5, expecting around 30-40 marks out of 80, but we move on, gonna cook on Paper 2. (need at least a grade 5).
sir, for q2, do i just do as many *brief* PQAs as i can in about 10min for q2? and just to confirm, it’s just cramming as many points as possible as well for q4?
also thank you so much for this help 🙏
I have the same spatula
Lol spatula is so motivating thanks sir
I'm so excited for this exam! I prefer paper 2 but just talking about language for about an hour is heaven
The quantity over quality thing is so annoying though 🤣
Mr Salles is it fine if on the description I first described the beach but then started talking about the effects the heat had on me and how it caused me to start thinking about my family and brought back some memories?
Fine
5:32 I got a 12/20 in my question 4 in my mocks, so just wondering if that is good or should I start with question 4?
Thank you for teaching me how to cook🥘🥘🥘
i think im not going to risk it with starting with question 5, just because ive never done it before during my mocks, and analyzing the source etc before hand gets me into the zone for Q5.
Good idea
Mr Salles, when you are done with the video, can you show us a picture of the board without you standing in front of it
Good idea
Mr Salles, I used what you’ve said in this video for structuring my answers, so for example in question 2 I gave quotes for each point, stated the technique used and gave 1-2 explanations which were pretty basic but still described the effect of the ‘heat’ in the extract. Overall I gave 8 small explanations linking to different points. However I’m not sure if this was how I was supposed to do it. Is it possible for me to get 8 marks using this structure.
Yes
Mr salles ur handsome dont lie
Sir I’m really not sure about tomorrow and it’s too late for my real teachers to answer emails so can you say some quick important high mark things? Please?
blud thought he would escape gen z with the why be sexist comment
I think that went quite well, got lucky with the desert image, easy to write about
Sir quick question, if I get a prompt for a story can I make it a minor part of the story, for example if it says write about when someone meets an animal I could write about someone in a meeting and a seagull just barges in for a part of the story?
Maybe you could try and have a build up for meeting the seagull throughout your story.
Should I memorise a description?
A fantastic lesson and I feel a lot better. But has anyone told you your voice sounds almost exactly like Micheal Rosen’s?
Indeed not!
Does anyone have any tips for processing what’s in the extract while also reading it quick enough
the bear scenario really got me laughing...lol
if youre marking question 5 this year and you come across a story about a man called Salles being bit by a snake… that was me. was thinking about this video during the exam and that was the name that came to mind 💀
Awesome. I look forward to being named in the examiner’s report
Mr Salles, for Q2 and Q3, how detailed do the explanations need to be? Will I get marks for just doing one or two sentences of inference and analysis for each of my 8 quotes, or is it better to use less quotes but do a more in depth analysis for each? Basically what do I need to include in the explanations
Both approaches work
Now i know this mightnt be responded to before the exam but how much detail do you propose for questions two and three as there must be a minimal accepted amount of effort for each one before continuing to the next one
Well, at least a few quotations and explanations of those should suffice. One detailed paragraph would get you most marks, with a second paragraph to squeeze out any extra marks being held.
