Missed ya Miro! I was wondering what topic you'd pick to start the new year, and this was a very good one. When others talk about 'uncommon hoyas' it's usually rather well known species/cultivars. But when you mention uncommon hoyas I have to look up pretty much every single one.
I am glad to hear that! I always love hearing about new species and discovering new hoyas so it is also very exciting for me to seek these out and bring some focus to those instead on some species that are more common and trendy (and expensive).

And care… let’s just say I am still holding my breath watching a very small curtsii and a small lacunosa sulking. After 3 months they are not dead. Obviously taking their time deciding whether I am a worthy mom or not. I do have an old carnosa that does bloom, which I love very much. I’m hoping this year to find a Crimson Princess, easy to find and budget friendly. I so enjoyed your videos with Betsy, continue with good health and interesting videos in 2023! 🪴🌱🌿

The flowers of hoyas have a passing resemblance to milk weed blossoms which I really like seeing in the garden. I have yet to add a hoya to my collection, because I am resisting going down another rabbit hole as it were, orchids and calatheas, being one of many rabbit holes I have delved into. I suspect I will breakdown and get one at some point. Meanwhile I'll just enjoy seeing them here.

Actually Hoya evelinae might be a subspecies of Hoya apoda. I asked Dr. Michele and Dr. Nathalie about these two and they said that Hoya evelinae is really similar to apoda in every parts, except that the number of flower on each peduncle of these two are different (Hoya apoda have only one flower per peduncle, Hoya evelinae have multiple flowers per peduncle). And there will be a new publication mainly about these two soon.
Thank you! MIne makes multiple flowers on each peduncle so I guess that does make it evelinae. I wonder what other plant that I got as eveliane is. They look the same to me (leaf-wise) but it has yet to bloom.

Hi Miro! Great video as always ✨ 19:35 just a small note: Hoya sp Jabar is from "Jawa Barat" or West Java, not West Kalimantan. It is very pretty with two or three different bloom colors!

It is! It is Hoya pandurata from Vietnam, often sold as Hoya pandurata (splash). That is the better clone of Hoya pandurata. :) Grows more compact with nicer leaves and blooms earlier :)
Bought a H. Pulleana cutting, for way too much, and killed it dead 😭 I'm waiting for the price to drop before I try again. Extremely cute but not the easiest to grow.
I’m just curious, no insult intended, but how can you enjoy plants that are in a grow tent and can’t visually see them all the time? I love to see my plants, so I just don’t understand. I guess everyone is different.❄️💚🙃
No offense taken :) I have plenty of plants outside of the tents as well and it's very easy to just open the door of the tent and there they all are :D
One possible reason why acuminata might be rare in the EU - it absolutely hates wet feet - hence semihydro might not be the best for it. Don't worry, H. paradisea/leucantha/IM2/IM8 are robust growers where I am (heh). I'd say kaikoeana is the slowest of the lot. On the evelinae debate, a specimen of mine has a really striking pink-upon-white corolla, and white-with-red-centre corona, but only one bloom per peduncle - what's this now xD. sp. Indonesia - i might poison you more here but there are at least 3 colour variants (heh)
Well, also acuminata is quite expensive. I have seen prices over 150€ even with Thai vendors :) Yes, my paradisea grows fast, but no blooms yet. On pink form, I think it will spread but maybe not as fast. I was told if it has 1-2 flowers per peduncle it is apoda and if more, evelinae. That would make my plant evelinae, I think. :) well, I guess I have to get all color forms of sp. Indonesia xD

Indonesia, last saw 6 colors ranging from shades of yellow-green-brown 😆 (the colours of some of them change through their bloom cycle, so they might not be 6 entirely different specimens). might poison you once more again - there's another two with similar foliage and growth patterns: one with smaller and more fuzzy flowers, the other one looks like an elongated amicabilis ;). ALL of their leaves resemble H. amicabilis.

I recently read somewhere on facebook that the rose tinted paradisea variety might really just be down to differences in temperature.
