    Another great video Tom as others have said. So refreshing to see a YT channel that allocates more time to showing the images and local area than the gear itself , but still covering the gear, films, settings in enough detail as well. Great drone footage as well. Oh, and the music is great and blends with the images and video really well ...and never too loud! All in all another enjoyable and inspiring video from one of the best on YT. Thanks Tom

    Just shot 2 rolls of Fomapan 200. One with an old Zenith SLR with 55mm lens and the other with a beat up Canon FTb QL and 19mm lens. It was partly watching your videos which inspired me to take up film again. Thanks for the encouragement Tom.

    So you found yourself an ancient folder, as you intended in a previous video. Seems like a good one, pictures seem sharp enough. I've recently looked for a friend's Mamiya folder for those filters, and it appears there are a couple of chinese companies (if you're comfortable with that), who make replicas of the old push on and bayonet filters, selling on ebay. Good luck. Nice pictures throughout. Metering sounds like Sunny 16, (f22 at 1/200 for iso400). Anyway.

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Před rokem

      Thanks Alfred I’m really pleased with it so compact and most importantly really fun to shoot. That’s good to know about the filters I will have a look and see if I can pick one up. I would probably put an orange filter on it or possibly yellow. Thanks again for the information it’s really appreciated.
      All the best Tom 🙏

    Happy New Year Tom!
    Another good post!
    Must get into 6x6 lightweight folder this year to go with my F100. I’d use the spot meter on the F100 for the Agfa. Just remember to reset the ISO if using a different speed!
    What Developer did you use?

      Thanks very much, happy new year to you. I didn’t even think to use the F100 to meter, it would have been a much better idea. All developed in Rodinal 1:25

    Isolettes are decent cameras. I am assuming that yours has an 85mm Apotar lens. If so this is the midlle quality Agfa lens, better than Agnar but slightly inferior to Solinar. The red dot is for zone focusing. There should be atleast one and maybe two red dots on the distance scale. You just line them up and it give you old fashioned ' autofocus ' . Just check the bellows for light leaks. Good buy for the money you paid for it. PS: you need to find the correct push on type filters for these cameras. From the top of my head they either take A30, or A32 ( for later models ) push on filters. 30 and 32 are in milimeters. BTW.

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Před rokem +2

      Wow this amazing so much information. Thanks for finding the time to share your knowledge. It’s really appreciated. Yes it’s the 85 mm Apotar version, I’m really pleased with the camera it’s really fun to use and produces very good image quality for the price. It’s certainly not 100 times worse than a Hassleblad. So I believe it’s great value.
      All the best Tom 🙏

      @@tomwhelan I have a 6X9 Billy. It has the 105mm Apotar lens. They are very good lenses once stopped down to about F11. I think they are single coated, so they will flare in some lighting conditions, but this can also help with shadow detail in some circumstances. They certainly have that old fsahioned ' glow '. You could use a high contrast film with them for artistic purposes. I have a few of these old folders including a Zeiss Super Ikonta 531 ( 4.5 X6 ) cm which has a coupled range finder and a Tessar lens. Very fun cameras to use, and you can put them in you jackets pocket. I couldn't do that with my Hasselblads, or Pentax 67 for sure, LOL.

      @tomwhelan  Před rokem

      @@lensman5762 I love the sound of a 6x9 folding camera. I do love the ratio of 35 mm and I imagine 6x9 is a very close in terms of aspect ratio but with Medium format quality.
      Many thanks Tom 🙏

    When shooting film, how do you know a photo will not be under or overexposed. You set your aperture, shutter speed etc. Is there a formula?

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Před rokem

      It’s the same with all photography. You measure the light using a light meter, which will be in your camera or a handheld one. Then put the settings into the camera.

    Hi Tom,
    Great video.
    How do you scan your 35mm negs to digital? Do you use a light table and DSLR or a flatbed scanner? I really am finding it hard to get the exposure correct with mine. Not sure if its how it is, or I am too used to digital with its super clean, sharp and huge dynamic range you can pull from the raw files. I normally use FP4, Delta 100 or Rollei Infrared.
    Have you tried Rollei RPX or Kentmere 100 on 35mm.
    Graham

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Před rokem

      Hi Graham I use a dedicated 35 mm scanner for my 35mm work, it’s a plustek 8200. I always get terrible results with a flatbed scanner with 35 mm. You can definitely get excellent results with a dslr if it’s all set up properly. I recently shot Kentmere 100 and was very pleased with the results. I also do like Rollei films. Good luck 🤞
