  • Short video of my 5-light incandescent TCT (Traffic Control Technologies) traffic signal in action. This signal is commonly referred to as a "doghouse" as the shape resembles a dog house. It is controlled by a Galak Electronics 6-light controller commonly found on eBay. Check out the links below to purchase one of those controllers!

      Traffic light Collection99 way better than LED

      Ehh... they're much less efficient than LED though. They are some LED ones that are made to look indistinguishable from incandescent. Perhaps the best of both worlds? (Though it is interesting to note that LEDs are least efficient when the yellow signal is on. Red and green, iirc, are roughly similar in electrical usage.)

      The difference between incandescent and LED is that incandescent lights have a half second afterglow when they go out whereas with LED lights there is no afterglow

    I learned in some cities that this traffic light has been replaced by a traffic light where you have to yield when turning left at a intersection where there is a flashing yellow traffic light

      I've seen a few of those around my area, and before that I believe I saw some doing this as well with a flashing red arrow. I think the yellow flashing arrow makes the most sense out of any possible system. It allows the same flexibility of the right turn on red rule, but for left turns. I've also seen on the other side of the state line that there's some over there that have a special no turn sign that can light up. Presumably for certain times like rush hour, but I'm not sure.

    We don't have these in Canada, and when I saw them for the first time in Florida when I was 5 I was fascinated!

      TheDeadmanRules I don't quite understand the "Doghouse" Traffic Signal design. I more used to this design i.ytimg.com/vi/UxQsWCEUgbM/hqdefault.jpg

      Thorbjørn Madsen the doghouse signal is made because it would be too long to hang from some span wires other wise

    Maybe I can film some traffic lights out in the field someday. Probably post ‘em to CZcams account WhelenSirenFan (my other channel)

    There's one of these up at an intersection near me that's in a turn only lane, which is confusing, as it will go through this exact cycle more or less. I've also been in at least one other intersection with a regular 3 light signal where I was given a signal to turn left at the same time the people across from me in the intersection were given a signal to drive straight. Nearly caused a collision, and the other person got real POed at me. Wasn't any signage stating I had to yield or anything present, so not sure why that happened.

    Are these still made or are they discontinued?

    • @Soccerdude7330Official

      These are still made but under a different name. Peek Traffic and Chappell Hill both manufacture the signal bodies. This particular signal layout is still made and used today.

      Charlie Davidson is it plastic?

      @FireRescue80 Před 6 lety

      Taylor Leger it's probably made of either aluminum or some type of strong metal.

      Jared Thompson I think it's plastic
