Sometimes a coffee goes a long way, especially here in Italy. Don't feel obliged in any way though, best of all would be to come to Tuscany and have one here with me!

I can’t help but think about this wonderful legacy you are leaving for your children. Your hard work is already made so many happy memories for your family.
That's my main motivation for the work, but also for the videos, like a diary for after I'm gone
an english man making such a beautiful lasagna,as an Italian i'm very impressed.
I was taught by a very patient local!
You could do an Amazon wish list for things you need to help with the house.
Your plastering skills are definitely improving! As said below, a table or raised smooth flat board will save you a lot of bending and speed up plastering.. Tip the mixed plaster on to the flat surface, then load onto a plasterer's hawk. You will save a lot of effort using a hawk, held tight against the wall, and apply using the plaster's float directly on the wall - and get most of it to stick to the wall!
Well done, and all your skills are so improved from when you started your italian adventure.
I am sure that I cannot be the only one eagerly awaiting each new video.
Thank you 😊 by the time the whole houae is finished I’ll be plastering like a pro 😬
Beautiful weather!
It was!
You can see the kitchen emerging!
Everything you do is progress. Looks great. I really enjoy your videos
Awesome! Thank you!
That's the best part of diy, you can do things whichever way you want.
Love being able to see how things are changing little by little. It's nice to see the little parts of life in Italy as well. Hope you can get back there soon!
Good to hear that the second layer should be easier on you.
Love the progress, love even more that you are enjoying the neighbors and atmosphere! What were they singing as they lit the bonfire?
The village anthem 😊
@@NotUselessYet Thanks for answering! Wow, the village has anthem! Cool.
Beautiful village. Fun fire ❤❤❤❤
You are getting there 👍🤗 Great bonfire 🔥
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
You did great for the short time you had, lunch looked delicious 😋 What a lovely tradition with the bonfire and no Guy Fawkes, a plus 😊 see you next time.
Thanks so much! 😊
That's a pretty efficient bucket holder you've got there, Raff! 😊
my keep asking, but im not sure. Is your Italy home going to be a permanent residence or vacation home? always enjoy seeing your progress. It's such a shame the neighbor won't budge on the property. as i mentioned before, I could be interested in a potential buy/rehab project. I wish you all the best!
It might be a retirement home, but for now it's a vacation home. I'll be doing another video with Elena the estate agent soon!
I need to have a nap after watching you slave away! What a man on a mission! Your strength and tenacity is very admirable. It will be absolutely fantastic when you've finished this massive project. We're all rooting for you! 🤩🤩
Thank you!
All the back pain and arm soreness is worth the weekend in such a fairytale place. Great Bon fire! Bit by bit you will make it a beautiful home again.
HI, you are getting there. Good Work. Having done a bit of DIY plastering myself, I suggest you might want to get a plasterers hawk to help get the plaster on the wall, also if you put the plaster/bucket on a table you dont have to bend down as much when getting it.(though just noticed that you are doing that already so ignore the last part).
As always good to see you again and your progress. Good job.
Looking forward to the next one, thanks 🎉🎉🎉
I keep saying you need to get a hawk and a proper trowel. You should be easily able to get a first coat on that entire wall, rather than mixing up little buckets at a time. A proper trowel lets you work so much more quickly. Mix up enough to do the whole wall, slop it on, with force so thar it fills the nooks and crannies, then go over it once or twice with the trowel to flatten it out. Don't fiddle too much or youll brong the water to the surface and freate blisters.
Let it go off for an hour or so then sprinkle ot with some water and use a large wooden or plastic float to lightly float it. Then use a scratcher to scratch it. Leave it to dry for several days then do a second, thinner coat. Once that coat has gone off (you can wait a full day if using lime, but an hour or so with more cement or gypsum based plaster) go over it thoroughly with a float to get it totally flat. You need to moisten the wall and really scour it with the float. It's exhausting, but gives you a flat wall. The float knocks off high points and fills in gaps. Then lightly scratch it with a float with 3 or 4 screws sticking out a few mil.
Then you're ready for your finishing coats.
Next time I'm in Italy I'll pop by and show you how to get a beautiful finish. 😊
I am trying to learn bit by bit!
@@NotUselessYet I know. But watching you use that little trowel on a full wall is like watching someone mow their lawn with an electric razor. 😄
I can't wait to visit my mother again and show her the fire.....
I love that you embrace the village life. That bonfire looked like it had the potential to be pretty dangerous; glad it wasn’t my community, I’d be sweating bullets. Reno is looking great!
The locals are crazy, but nothing ever aeems to go wrong 😬
Thanks for sharing village life also! It was fun and the lasagna looked fabulous
It was!
Thanks!
Thank you, incredibly generous ❤️❤️
Great progress
Well done on the plaster work and the lasagna! Love from Maine ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video 👍 So not only do we feel inadequate watching you slog away and get the plastering done but we don't get to enjoy local customs of dinning with the locals 😊
Bonfire and beers! The best combo!
Good progress!
Thanks!
Fiquei com água na boca! Aquela lasanha deve estar sensacional!!!!!
It was pretty good 😇
that was a GREAT bonfire
It was, wasn't it!
Thanks! I love seeing the community’s activities
Thank you so much Kelly ☺️
Enjoyed from Texas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
If it hurts, stop! I know you want to get it all done and start using a really nice, functional kitchen, but that won't happen if you get laid up with some serious problem like frozen shoulder (got it 3 yrs ago -- will have to be very cautious with any repetitive motion, till I die). Go enjoy some rest and family time. That room will wait for you, I promise :)
You are ao right !
Great video!
✨🌞✨
Thank you 🤗
Please be careful ! I was not and now I arthritis so bad I find it difficult to walk let alone do any heavy work at ALL !
I will, thank you
Looks yummy 😛
Always enjoy your vlogs. Tell me what is that fire tradition? Never heard of it.
They call them Falo and they have them in January in Pontremoli, and now in Guinadi..
Your lasagna looks delicious! 😋
Thank you
Nice Lasagna Ralf 👌🏻, very brave of you to cook it in an Italian village 😁, so if you don’t join the community ? Do they send some guys around to persuade you or a few Nonna’s who force feed you Pizza 😂, all sounds really great honestly Ralf and a bygone era in many other countries. Plastering coming along and we all know it’s not a 5 minute job , your get there 👍🏻.
I learned how to make it this way in the village 😬
@@NotUselessYet Perfectly Ofc 😂👌🏻
👏👏
I noticed the first time you did that the brown spots came back , is that because the walls are damp? And do you think that you'll be moving in anytime soon? I'm enjoying your channel much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
It’s soot, the room ised to be used for smoking chestnuts. We’re bot planning on moving there permanently before retirement 😬
We’d probably get arrested here in America for having a bonfire like that. Unless we had a permit and the fire department waiting.😊
Even in italy you need permit, there must be fire brigades, if many people there must be an ambulance as well
in Italy too you need a permit to make a bonfire
Gosh. It looked like the bonfire was underneath some electrical wiring. How did that go?
What is the fire for , and what was the song they singing before setting fire to it ?
It's the village anthem, Guinadi! And the fire is to chase the end of winter away.
❤
💖
No matter where you live or who you are Lasagna is the BEST
Absolutely, although pizza is up there too
What did you coat the bottom of your lasagna pan with if you don’t mind me asking? It looked like a bechamel sauce of some type but I’m sure it’s not.
It is, bechamel, belongs in every lasagna
is besciamella sauce
Generally speaking, though not a rigid rule, southern Italians don't use bechamel. With or without, it's delicious. @@NotUselessYet
looks like the tar is going to keep seeping through- maybe because it’s like an oil stain. not sure what the answer is
I doesn’t seem to seep through the second layer of plaster
@@NotUselessYet good to hear! will be so epic when it’s finished!
👍
What was the occasion for the fire? It was beautiful.
is the end of darkness and the fire is the light of a new spring
Sylvie knows 😉
Thank you 😊
Well I have to at least ask for your lasagna recipe! It's obvious your heart is in that place....will be great for retirement!
You'll have to come by, recipes are never written down!
👍💙😎
Mate keep up.. don't slide to "la dolce vita" 😅
I‘m doing my best
too bad you didnt have something to stand on to alieviate your shoulders. Well done!
🔨🏠🔨🏠
Where's the lasagna???
Did you skip through too fast and mias me cook it and eat it?
@@NotUselessYetGuilty as charged.😊
I feel like you’re wasting your time plastering these stained walls and they’re just gonna always seep through. I can’t help but think that if you just ran electrical and built a sub wall would save yourself a ton of time but what do I know? Definitely not much.
I thought about doubling with plasterboard, but the walls are so not straight I wpuld have lost a lot. After a few tests, the soot doesn’t seem to get through the sacond layer of plaster, and there will be 3 in total 😬
The fire is very good for the environment. More climat catastrophes are coming. Bellisimo.😂😂😂😂😂
For the LOVE OF GOD! You need to find new music and no more of that AWFuL piano whine - it’s Spring 2024 FIND SOMETHING MORE LIVLY AND CHEERFUL.
it’s not that bad. there used to be an electronic song used when he started making vids - piano music is much better especially the dramatic piece at 14:00
I really like the music, and I ain't even here for the music.
Music will always make people disagree😉😬
Music is just fine. As is your work ethic. Bravo.
A pagan ceremony!
In Italy is not inusual to see this type of ceremony, especially in some historical anniversary 😊
Imbolc or Candlemass festival of light / bon fire 🔥 to celebrate beginning of Spring 💚 🧙♀️ Cheers 🍻
Thanks!
Thank you, that's very generous and kind!
