    Just finished! I've GOT to try and choose my wool and hook more thoughtfully! My hen is the side of a medium-sized dog. Your videos were priceless - I could not have managed without them. I won't even mention me sewing the head together on the wrong side - I chose to undo the tail insitu and reverse that instead. Such a fool!
    Thank you for the bright and colourful project.

    I can't tell you how many ways you have helped me with your simple and direct instruction without a lot of gabbing in between.
    I am self-taught , and that, from a book I saw when I was in 5th grade. 1972, I think? I laid it down for about 20 years and picked up the same hook "n the same skein of yarn because I needed some moccasins and I fumbled my way through it for my son's cold tootsies. Made a scarf and a V neck shells & scallops pullover vest for myself before the skein ran out.. I just did it the way I figured it should look and it turns out I was right. I had done it well before CZcams came along. The whole scarf is entirely slip stitched on a O or P. The vest was done with the big fat hook but I had pulled the yarn tight enough to be about an L/M/N. Yes. I have all the sizes that you don't usually hear about. Fun fact: The L & M are actually pretty much the same size and the M is not a tailored/tapered neck, it's a straight one, and shaped like a Susan Bates, and it crochets bigger stitches than both of the others listed here.
    Anyway , I can't tell you how many Channels with tutorials are out there teaching the wrong slip stitch and the wrong way to turn your work, never explaining why something looks this way or how it will get straightened out a little bit later when you do this or that. It's as if they forgot how it was for them to burn in the first place. It tells us all that there are some people who show and there are some people who teach. Teachers know what they teach, and teachers always remember what it is like for a learner. The really good ones do, anyway. Not everyone is a good teacher. You are. I am ever grateful.
    BTW I would love to learn how to make sense out of patterns the way you do, but when it gets to "continue until [this mark] and repeat until [this other mark] and (parenthetical thingy with an asterisk). I end up getting dyslexic for a moment and I feel like I have knotted yarn for brains!
    I did figure out that I can understand a chart with nothing but the key. But trying to understand things without a reference point is like trying to figure out algebra in your head. Funny, but that's kinda what it's like for me tryin' it on paper too! Lol. But, I can look at most crochet and figure out how to do it myself, though - a lotta people can't do that.
    According to enjoy watching a video with no words spoken. These ladies, even the one Speaking foreign language, really do keep their demonstrational skills sharp. They are much easier to understand than a srprisingly large percentage the English speakers in the way they demonstrate and film a tutorial. It seems the ladies doing the tutorials I enjoy never take it for granted that someone understands what is being shown once for spoken of in their foreign tongue. It is as though hese Turkish, Russian, and Asian language speakers on these videos have made them especially for English speakers, it seems to lean more heavily in the direction of the crafts being passed on to younger Generations is more of a tradition there, in their lands, than it is in English speaking countries.

    This is pretty much an impossible task. The paid written pattern is full of mistakes and you jump and cut out rows here on the video so it's a futile exercise really which is a shame.

    • @Septcrafter
      @Septcrafter Před 19 dny +4

      First, a suggestion: maybe thank them for providing a video. Second, maybe go to a local yarn store, not Michaels or Joann’s and see if one of them can help explain the pattern.
      Third: if this pattern is too difficult, maybe try something else until your skill base is stronger.
      This is not a futile video, they aren’t showing every row because some are repetitive. They are showing the rows and sections that are difficult. And last, maybe show a little gratitude. They didn’t have to do a video in the first place. Hope you have a wonderful day.

    • @Septcrafter
      @Septcrafter Před 19 dny +2

      If you’re stuck at the start of section three, watch where she turns, on the chain 14 as you’re coming back you may need to turn so you are lined up properly for the 25 stitches back.

      All you have to do is watch the video and they do get right back to where they left off. It’s not as easy as it looks to do a tutorial online, all in all I think they did a fine job. And they didn’t have to do this at all. Maybe you can freehand your own pattern and share it with the rest of us?
