This small but extraordinary book was written in the 19th century and has been translated from Tamil into English. The author is unknown. It was popularized by the sage, Ramana Maharshi, who often named it along with a few others to disciples who were in pursuit of wisdom. This book, highly saturated in wisdom teachings, names the single most effective method of attaining to realization (i.e.enlightenment, moksha or liberation).

I experienced the non-dual state of turiya yesterday while listening to this. I understood every word directly in absolute peace. Amazing!

I am a devotee to Ramana. He found me and brought me to him. So that I will know myself. Self realization is my destiny, for it is me and I am it and he is me and I am he--- Ramana Maharshi. All gurus are the same in different form. Ramana. Buddha. Jesus. We are them. And they are us. The silent still nothingness is us. The all. Grateful eternal blessings to Ramana Maharshi. Eternal blessings to us all.
He may be like a man who spoke little, but he is definitely one of the greatest spiritual teachers or gurus in the history of mankind. Many of his words to try to explain why man craves the freedom of spirit from mind and body are so deep that even after it has been reread, they are unlikely to be fully understood.

“All is one” is still not a perfect translation of the full meaning of the Tamil phrase “Ellam ondre”. I would say a more accurate translation is “Everything is the Same”

I've been trying years for enlightenment, for the higher state, where is it...when does it arrive
Ramana once said something along the lines of 'if there is an ultimate goal to be reached, it must be permanent' permanent means now and forever, which means there can be no causal factors that can bring about a permanent thing, since the permanent exists independetly of anything else. There is nothing to look for, nothing to gain. What is the idea of 'enlightenment' that you have in mind? Realise that your existence as pure being is the independent 'thing' that allows you to experience consciousness. When consciousness stirs, you know of your existence but you falsely identify with a particular, insignificant body and look to satisfy it through various activities. None of these actions matter and noone is making decisions. Understand that you, as pure being - beyond existence and non-existence, is the support for all this and that you are not bound by it and do not need it. If you are in this position and understand this, what is the point in chasing a grandiouse image of enlightenment, what can possibly be given to you? Not to mention that we live in a world of duality where each thing or quality is inseperable from its counterparts.
Dāvids you can’t realise ying without good old yang hanging around. They are both needed as much as each other to perceive the light from the dark. Negativity from positivity. Yadda yadda. And so it is.
We are already there but we don't recognize ....yet soon or later all beings will arrive to the place we didn't ever left ...is the mind that always try to identify with everything . I am not the body and i am not the mind! Who i am ?? If you get the answer you are on the wrong Path , its when we don't have need to make any questions or answers because you are all beyond concepts ....

Does he say universal ego?
From the context in the video, I assume it's because ego implies individual? So the universal ego is the only true individual, outside whom there is no other. The 'other' ego is only an illusion that thinks itself to be an individual within a realm of other separate individuals and God. When this ego investigates itself via self enquiry it discovers it is the universal ego - the True/only/universal individual.
