  • When you live in your RV full time, you can't be without a working water heater for months while you search for a qualified repair shop that can schedule you in. Come along with Sue & I to see the way all RV shops should operate. NIRVC Las Vegas demonstrated it was a well oiled precision operation that quickly got us in, diagnosed all of our various problems, air freighted parts in that no shop could possibly carry on the shelf and installed everything the very next day after they arrived!
Our initial visit repair bill was $1350, second "return" visit bill was $17,375 for a total of $18,725. ($12,145 was for the ITR Oasis Diesel Hydronic Boiler System.) Add in our $530 hotel bill staying at the "Strat Hotel" on the Las Vegas Strip and about $400 miscellaneous expenses, and we ended up with a whopping $19,655!! GULP!
Full time RVing in a Class A Motorhome is not for the faint of heart! Thank GOD NIRVC has GREAT cheesy flavored FREE popcorn in the customer lounge.

MORAL OF THE STORY I BELIEVE IS THIS: We all need to have our ITR Oasis Systems flushed out every three years per the manual to avoid the acidic fluid from eating away at the weld joints in all the components! Here was my symptoms: I started to smell diesel sometimes, so that was when I dove into the unit and fixed the fuel line hose that was leaking. Turns out, that was just one of the problems. I too was losing Century Fluid, and had a pinhole leak in the boiler. (NIRVC found it by pressurizing my system and looking for and finding the leak in the main chamber.) The leak out the bottom of the RV I "thought" was only diesel was actually diesel AND Century Boiler fluid. The issue I wish I had included in the video is the fact that no one I have every talked to "changes out" the Century Boiler Fluid every three years like the owners manual suggests. It is only 1 or 2 sentences in the manual, and almost everyone, including me, misses this advice! I would venture to say NO ONE ever changes the fluid like they do radiator antifreeze coolant. Since my fluid was in my rig since June of 2013 when the rig was produced, that acrid blend of Century Fluid has been pulsing thru my boiler and heat exchangers eating away at all the welds. I am pessimistic that my next mode of heating failure is going to be radiator registers inside the rig starting to leak. Hope I am wrong. MORAL OF THE STORY I BELIEVE IS THIS: Have your ITR Oasis Systems flushed out every three years per the ITR Oasis Boiler manual,.............AND,.......keep your fingers crossed.

I'm liking this video and getting my friends to give it a like too! Hopefully, by doing this, it will give your YT revenue a little boost to help cover those cost! 😂 My takeaway from is; regardless if you live in motorhome or a regular home, you're going to encounter repair & upkeep expenses. I also think, like me, 99.9% of your viewers would much rather live in a home that has a changing view out the living room window than looking out at the same tree day in and day out. Thanks for keeping it real with your audience by showing the bad with the good while living your retired dream ! May all your miles in Myles be safe and happy ones! ❤

Thanks Adam. We actually don't expect too many crocodile tears from folks. We feel blessed to be able to have afforded this life (barely) so far on pensions, one social security and YT earnings. Currently, we are still net NEGATIVE year to year and hit the 401K. The BEST way for folks to support our video production efforts is to use our Amazon Link. When using someone's YT channel Amazon Store, you ARE NOT restricted to only the items in that store. They can buy ANYTHING!
You can activate a FRESH LINK off the channels website top banner dropdown menu OR the CZcams Channel Amazon Icon on the lower right corner of the channel banner picture.
A person has to do this EVERY TIME YOU START A “SHOPPING SESSION”, and should never bookmark a link. The link needs to be FRESH to have a new tracking “cookie” associated with it.
A person can end up buying toothpaste, a drill press, camera, 3D printer, or virtually anything. Any purchase helps support the channel of your choice with about 3%, and this is done without increasing the cost to you. Sue and I really appreciate the efforts folks are taking to help support the channel via their Amazon purchases for as long as they care to do it!

You hit the nail on the head! I always try to help folks understand one BASIC thing that needs to be in place that contact us. If one person in a couple is starting out having to really, really, really, "convince" the other partner that RVing is something they should do together, it won't end well. This life is unique. It is rewarding. It is a way to shake up your perfect, current life. But it is expensive, and you can have plenty of bad days mixed in with the sea of good days. It you and your travel partner are on the same page, hooked to the wagon from the same end, and are pulling the heavy load together, .....it will be a much more pleasant and long lasting journey.

This type of service is priceless when the chips are down for a full time RVer like us! The NIRVC Mission Statement is as follows: "We provide an outstanding, hassle-free motorhome ownership experience. We enjoy serving our guests and team members with integrity, courtesy, and respect while helping them realize their dreams." I have personally received the service and treatment they say they will provide first hand. Sue & I count on NIRVC to keep us on the road!

I want folks to understand that our rig is very well maintained, and is a quality, luxury, high end brand, and yet it STILL has plenty of TLC required to keep it rolling along. Back in the day, I too would do all this work myself. But at almost 71, I no longer have it in me. Being FULL TIME vs Part Time is a real limiting factor on repair timing. If my rig was parked in a heated "high bay garage" during non usage times, then definitely I would have completed the roof resealing job. It would have taken a week, but who cares!

I think every coach owner should start to use and develop their relationship with NIRVC before your "panic emergency" like we had. Because we are an established customer listed as FULL TIME, NIRVC understands the pickle we are in when the fecal matter hits the fan. The do not have the non-sense response to a full timer of telling you to "drop it off, and we will get to it". This level of service does not come cheap. But an even more expensive repair is the cheap one that is never actually performed.

Ouch, sorry your unit required such an expensive repair. We too just spent 12,000 on our Beaver Patriot Thunder. I had to have the brakes and rotors replaced because we neglected to use the JAC Brake as much as we should have. Lesson learned! The new brakes were actually 7,100 dollars of the bill, the rest was servicing the engine and generator and replacing a fantastic vent. But, Rhonda and I agree with you. We have been living full time in our Beaver and still love it!! For us it’s the only way to travel. We now have 140,000 miles on our unit and have been full time since 2010. So remember, use that JAC brake and give a longer life to your brakes and rotors!! 😊

Once again OJIM tells it like it really is, and for that much respect! I've said it before - you two show us all both the good and the bad of RVing full time. While you show some pretty great highs and experiences, its not all sugar-coated Disneyland out there. That's one expensive repair, but you know, living in a sticks and bricks can be expensive too. While I'm not down $20K on the year, we did have a $3800 air conditioner repair, over $1000 for a new water heater, and nearly $7000 for a roof leak repair, and our home is only a few years older (2011) than your Dutch Star. Again, respect for sharing this.

This issue somewhat confirms my “10 year service life” belief of RVs. I had a 40 ft Holiday Rambler diesel pusher that was great requiring just normal maintenance, but at around 10 years old “stuff” that was no longer serviceable (Obsolete!) started failing. Obsolete replacement parts parts no longer available required the entire systems to be replaced/upgraded. This type of “repair” is very costly and lots of repair facilities do not want to work on older rigs do to lots of these “retrofits” of new systems are not “bolt in”… I think you were wise to change out the entire system!

We are planning our RV life and are unsure about getting something like a 36 or 38 foot Beaver with a single rear axle, or getting a full size RV of 40 or 45 feet. We would flat tow an F150. Any thoughts as between the two sizes and if it is simply too long most of the time?

We are 44 feet and tow a Honda Minivan. We rarely feel our size is too large, but remember, we are full time. Living every single day in a rig that is too small is an issue every minute of the day. A rig too big for a Campground just means you don't go there! Hope you are able to fix your own rig. Finding repair places along the way to repair a Beaver will be a challenge. Pulling a F150, I would make sure you have a rig with a tag axle. Newmar makes 40 footers with a tag.

The issue I wish I had included in the video was the fact that know one I have every talked to "changes out" the Century Boiler Fluid every three years like the owners manual suggests. • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  Před rokem

You have to realize, no matter how cheap I could get the parts, I am physically no longer agile enough to do this work. Additionally, being full time, I have no where to have freight delivered to, and no where to do the work. I checked the "Hydronic Heating Warehouse" to see how good or bad the pricing at NIRVC. The first thing that I could see was that all the Oasis Boiler Units WERE OUT OF STOCK in October 2022. But because NIRVC has a direct relationship with ITR Corporation, THEY could get the units shipped directly from the factory "Next Day Air". For this direct from the factory service, the main boiler part cost was $575 more than the "out of stock" internet part, the distribution box was $200 more than the "out of stock" internet part and the control module was $365 more than the "out of stock" internet part . So the way I looked at it, for $1140 I could actually get things fixed, and NIRVC would handle all the logistics. I am the one that actually requested and added the distribution and control module being replaced so I could "start fresh" with my system. I agree the Century Fluid is expensive,......but even on Amazon I see it as $49/gallon, so NIRVC is making $26/gallon. Believe me, I was happy that they were able to bring this complex repair together for Sue & I so quickly. That repair horsepower comes at a price I was happy to have the choice to use! Now if this happen back when I was 35 years old, instead of 71........I would be thinking different!

As a prior service advisor, if yourbparts department doesn't do its job to help customers get rhe right parts and prices, the service advisor becomes crippled.

I agree. I think NIRVC is smart having the Service advisors and parts guys TOGETHER, and putting the shop tech co-ordinating advisors in the SHOP, and off the plate of the service advisor to worry about. This way, the service advisor is more available to just take care of the customer, and keep everyone informed with a good flow of info TO and FROM him or her.

We are going to ride this pony into the ground! We still love our Dutch Star. This lifestyle is expensive! We keep telling folks that. I feel like Johnny Cash, rebuilding this baby one bolt at a time! The good thing is we paid cash and have no loans on anything!

The boiler unit inside had sprung a pinhole leak. ITR company no longer just sells replacement boiler parts. Even if they did, I would have wanted to start new. I believe I would have gotten more life out of the unit if I had known to flush the Century Fluid out every three years, or sooner.

Was any of this stuff you were having fixed covered under your extended warranty?

We bought our rig from a private person "used" in June of 2017 with 23k miles. We did not have an extended warranty. I would love to have the time to analyze & see if I ultimately saved anything by going used. I'm getting the feeling it is a wash,...........or maybe even more expensive over 10 years in a used one!

$273 per hour labor to remove and replace roof calking? Jeepers, it's not like it's the same skill level/training required to diagnose a BMW V-12 engine....

We just got unlucky,........I should have flushed the Century Fluid every 3 years! The unit was put into service with the first owner October 2013, and was replaced basically October 2023. I got 10 years out of it. Full time RVing maxing out the life on all the RV Systems.

I am preparing to be embarrassed by the rolled up costs myself. I guess at this point, it is what it is. If I can keep folks that should be RVing in something other than a motorhome that would better match their pocketbook, then sharing my experiences will have been worth while. Their is an RV Lifestyle and set of equipment choices to do it in for everyone.
