My dad and I used to watch James Bond movies together when I was young. He got Goldeneye for me after it had come out though my mom thought it was too violent. We definitely werent rich so it was a big deal for him to get it for me when it wasnt my birthday or christmas. I remember playing it so much. A few years later I foolishly traded it for a game boy color.. When he passed away in 2004 from cancer luckilly I was able to get my exact copy of the game back from my friend who I had traded it to when I was younger as he just happened to have it sitting in his attic. I keep the game cart stored in a special place. This game and my father will alway be in my heart. One reason I connect so much with this channel is because I was born in 85 and watching your videos is like watching a part of my own childhood again.

So sry about your dad man, it sucks. I also watch this channel cause we have so many in common Tyler is '86 though i think. Haha my mom also thought Goldeneye was violent the morals of the times! Looking at it now its almost funny! Imagine if instead of Goldeneye our N64's played a copy of Doom 2016 xDDDD parents would go apeshit!

I grew up a huge Bond fan and one Christmas my family got me a bunch of James Bond VHS tapes including Goldeneye on the N64. Man…. It’s crazy to me because at such a young age, I was going’s through that game like I played it before! That’s until I tried 00 Agent and that’s when I really had to try by best and explore. My cousins would come over and we’d play Multiplayer for hours trying all the different game modes and levels. Wish I could time travel back. Good memories

What I witnessed that day was pure gaming gold. After playing hours of 4 player split screen I rushed home and begged my parents for the game. Although I would'nt recieve the game until a few months later during Christmas of that year, I spent everyday after school at various friends houses forming some of the best core memories of my childhood. Goldeneye will always hold a special place in my heart filled with split-screen memories of playing with my little brother, and playing through Facility over and over again. Bro I can't imagine what it would be like to not only lose my father at such a young age, but also have a father who was so invested in my interests and then just not be around anymore. My heart aches for you but no one will ever know your pain and despair besides you.
That being said, becuase my father was never really around for my interests and mainly just stuck his nose to his work, I am determined to be half the father to my son as your father was to you. My son is 4 yrs old as of January 1st. He can swing around in spiderman miles morales, collect dog bones in paw patrol and cut down a tree in Minecraft. But when I put that NES controller in his hand and turned on super Mario bros 3, his eyes lit up like I've never seen. He can't comprehend the basics of jumping on top of enemies or dodging but he just loves running around and the bright colors and easy controls. I am excited for my son to make my life as amazing and happy as you made your father's. I remember being in the basement while my sister was on the computer blasting All Star and Mambo No. 5 trying to get through the jungle and control room. I remember watching a friend play it at his place. I had never heard of FPS or even seen a James Bond movie, but seeing him play it blew my mind. It was so realistic, that's all I could think about. I play still regularly on the N64, just to be back in the exciting 90s.
And it started my fanboyism of Bond too

An absolute classic. it was the first fps game I ever played and is still one of the best. It gets so difficult later on especially if you're trying to unlock the two secret levels. So difficult in fact that one level is still locked.

What was amazing to me was that it wasn't really a first person shooter in the sense that we knew the genre back then. You're James fucking Bond, you're a secret agent. You have specific tasks within each mission and dying wasn't the only way to fail the mission. It was so much more than a regular fps.

And at least once for all of them. It's not hard. it's painful to watch people not strafe run or just basic movement. Starfox 64 is like that too. I dominate in that. I forget people legit struggle in it.

Goldeneye was a gem. I remember I had a friend like you who had it while no one else did for awhile. I had Doom 64 and Mischeif Makers but for whatever reason 007 escaped my grasps at the start. However, Eric had Goldeneye and lucky enough he lived a few houses down. Needless to say that cartridge ran the gamut between he and all of his friends. I remember we would take it to our other friends place whos parents had a masive 80 inch television at the time hooked up to a sound system and let me tell you, it was like we were playing it on the silver screen itself in our young minds. Shortly after I came home from school one day and my Grandma surprised me with my very own copy. This was like playing it for the first time all over again, because now it was my copy. I finally went through the campaign at my leisure and all was right in the world. Keep up the great videos Tyler, you envoke so many memories from my childhood and I cannot thank you enough.

I'm really discovering GoldenEye for the first time (mostly) through the recent Perfect Dark PC port. I've been playing Perfect Dark N64 since I was 4 years old in 2007... Regularly, with my dad. 17 years later and we're still playing PD together. Until the fan PC port, we didn't really play with mods at all. Now, we're learning the GoldenEye multiplayer maps from the GoldenEye X mod that were ported to Perfect Dark, featuring many of the single player and all of the original multiplayer arenas from GE in PD.
It's giving me a newfound appreciation for GoldenEye. Don't get me wrong, PD is still the best game of all time for me. The mechanics, level design, texture work, use of color, audio, music... sheer customization in the Combat Simulator with bots, heads/bodies, names, team names, etc etc. etc... When I was a kid I tried GoldenEye and was so disappointment it wasn't just, 'more Perfect Dark'. Now, it can be-- and IS for me. Bringing over all of the great content from GoldenEye, but not the inferior mechanics which bog GE down after having played PD exclusively for so long.

What I gather from your videos is not just the nostalgia of video games but the community who were luck to have such a great dad who would do anything for their kid/kids. I see more comments about the dads buying them the game or console they reallly wanted although they were very expensive then and even now, but it’s the dads that love seeing their kid smile for eternity. The memories is all but what some of us have now because of a passing of a father or divorced. Not taking anything from the mother but I’m my experience it’s the dads. Selfless hard working dads and the love they have for their kids.
