    Lesson Notes:
Here are the instructions for this lesson so you can reproduce it for your kids or class.
    Materials:
-Your Bible bookmarked to Psalm 16:11
    -Candle
    -Lighter
-Balloon with air in it and a smiley face drawn on it
-Balloon with water in it and a smiley face drawn on it
    Directions:
-Talk about what the feeling of happiness is. What makes you happy?
-Light the candle: this represents bad and hard things that happen in our lives. These happen to everyone, and people respond to them in different ways. Ask your kids what bad and hard things they might be dealing with right now, or that they have experienced in the past.
-Put the balloon that represents happiness (the one with only air) over the flame.
-Look up Psalm 16:11 and talk about what it means to have Joy in the Lord.
-Light the candle again and put the balloon over it that has the water inside. This time the balloon will not pop.
-Use this as an opportunity to talk about how when someone is filled with the Joy of the Lord, their circumstances will not dictate how they respond emotionally to the world around them. Their outlook will be more focused on who Jesus is and less on what is happening around them. This is how to have true Joy.
-Ask the questions from the lesson and get your class to engage by responding to what they learned. Particularly, that they would be able to apply these truths to their lives.
All Scriptures were taken out to the ESV (English Standard Version) of the Bible.
