In this video I take an Original Pokemon Yellow Game Boy Color and give it an IPS screen. The screen I am using is a drop in IPS screen which doesn't require any soldering or shell trimming. I chose this particular screen because I want to preserve the original look, feel and parts of this rare Game Boy Color. I clean the motherboard, clean the inside of the power switch, replace the capacitor, install a replacement speaker, install a drop in IPS screen.

Is this ips screen exactly the same aspect ratio 160 pixels wide by 144 pixels high in a 10:9 format as the original gbc screen?

Instead of desoldering old capacitors, you destroy them and take them from the board piece by piece?
Interesting way...Is that because they explode when use heat gun? What about using soldering iron and low melt solder?
Other shops do it similar way? Very high chance of reaping cap with traces from the board, no?

Thank you for the comment! Great question; this method of removing capacitors is the easiest and quickest way to remove capacitors in my opinion. I heat up the pads and add some fresh solder before cutting it to avoid ripping the pads off the board.

Using a heat gun and low melt solder is definitely a viable way to remove the capacitors as well! I learned how to replace capacitors before I owned my heat gun so this method is most comfortable and time efficient for me.

Would this increase or decrease its value? Currently going for $500-600 pre-owned on ebay

Given that its fully reversible because doesn't require modifying the case, or soldering, it probably won't do anything to the price, assuming all the other parts stay original.

Great question! This was sent in for a customer who wanted an ips screen added. I kept everything original and didn’t trim the shell at all but from a collector perspective; it probably decreases the value. Luckily this kit is easy to uninstall so the option to go back to original is always on the table!

Thanks for the input you two! Appreciated your cap replacement, I see too many youtubers prying at them & I worry about the lil baby pads

@@nadca2I appreciate that! I had ripped a handful of capacitor pads off the board when I first started so I definitely feel like I’ve had my fair share of practice 😂.

@@GameBoyMart Thanks man, liked and subbed. Am I right in saying that this removes the IR Blaster functionality, because the screen settings sensor goes over it?

      @@user-kh2wc8nx1f I really appreciate that!
That’s a great question; the touch sensor is fairly small so I wonder if it’ll interfere with the IR function. I’ll have to test that later! Also, you could attach it to the shell but I liked the idea of it being where the IR cover is. I’ll update you when I test it later

@@user-kh2wc8nx1f I have installed alot of these kits, if you put it to the very side of the ir cover you can still use it, although if you put it in the middle it will block it/cause issues. though you can put the touch sensor anywhere it will reach on the shell.
