Brilliant !!! I've lived in Hunslet most of my life and its been lovely to see all of these old photos, many of which I remember as a small child. Well done to whoever put these together :)
I was born and bred in Leicestershire St, Hunslet and loved my childhood there. From the railway sidings to the River Aire to Wakefield Rd, fishing at Capies and birds nesting everywhere, marked our daily haunts and activities. The Top Field and Nursery Park I remember well. Very fond memories evoked. and even though I remember names I find it difficult to organize places spatially. An Old Hunslet map with places shown in the slides marked would be great. Wish Mam, Dad, Aunts and Uncles were around to see it. Would bring tears to their eyes.
Thanks for posting this.I was born in Holbeck and brought up in Beeston.I attended Ingram Road Primary School as a kid and went to both Hunslet and Holbeck feasts every year.
Joseph street baths! the hours i spent in there going home wrinkled from water exposure! between there and the library where i spent much time!! iv been left leeds now so long i would not recognise anywhere!!!
My Great Grandparents lived on Perseverance Street for 50 or so years. I fondly remember them talking about family living in areas so many of these photos show. I’m now in my 40s and am really able to recall with appreciation those stories so much more than I did in my childhood. Thank you so much for putting all this together, and incorporating ‘Steal Away’ which I absolutely love! ♥️ (you got one thing wrong though, it’s not ‘CoOp’ it’s ‘Kwop’ 🤣)
Thank you for the memory, The AdeIphi Pub, was the darts team to play against, since they were considered to be the Real Madrid of The West Yorkshire Darts League. in the 1980's. As I played darts for the Adelphi during that time, I won 60 trophy's in 5 years. (One every month) Don't get me wrong, 501 in 18 to 21 darts, was where I positioned my self. Though I wasn't anywhere near being the best player for the team, but, often, when opponents realised, that they were playing against an Adelphi player, they capitulated. If they beat me, and that was more often than I would have liked. The whole opponent venue would erupt. But still, I had the trophy's, they didn't
The worst of it was the pollution which blackened the buildings and shrouded the sky .. this created a poverty stricken,unhappy aspect to to the people ,which mostly wasn't the case..behind those doors were clean ,(sometimes obsessively so) contented people,,most of whom worked and passed their days in peace of mind,unlike many to-day..what they (and crucially others) didn't have wasn't missed..it was about family,community(which meant and should still mean neighbourliness) the pub ,radio,and work
A very evocative series of photographs, I wish my Mam and Dad were still around to see them. There is not much left of the Hunslet in the pictures, and, to be fair, a lot of it did need demolishing!

We have some great photos amongst our archives of your grandfather, I have spoken to a number of former members in the past who all spoke very highly of him, evidently well respected for his length of voluntary service, gymnastics sessions today at the club are packed out on Saturdays, still using some of pummel horses from is day, he left a great legacy here, you should come see us sometime, be very welcome.
Hi My name is Margaret Baker former Margaret Bristow. I was browsing these sites for nostalgic reasons of my early years. I believe the gentleman mentioned here could be Sam Widdop if so he was my Great Uncle married to Aunty Ida (My Grandma's sister Eloner Booth) I lived around the corner in Briggs Yard my Mum used to help Uncle Sam when Aunty was ill and after her death (Marie Bristow)
I was born 82 grapestrret Hunslet which was then a coal merchants I was born in the house that was adjacent to the coal yard but I can't find any photos and obviously I don't know the name of the coal merchants would love it if anyone had any photos or even knew what the coal merchant was called
my great great grand mother ran imperial on cemetary rd Beeston in bout 1911 her name was Annie Briggs nee Geldard and a few around around Hunslet and Holbeck they owned a lot of property in Wortley long tragic story I have lots of pics

Worked in hunslet Clarence road for 13.years.west Yorkshire foundries.
Lived at 25 Bagnall St. next to the off licence, very happy times were had growing up there !

My great grandfather owned The Bull's Head at 219 Jack Lane in Hunslet and if anyone has a photo, I'd really appreciate it!!

My family, the O'Donnells, lived at 67 Glasshouse Street,(1910's - 1920's), if anyone has any info on them I would be delighted..
