Ibiza Medieval Festival 2017 Opening Dalt Vila

  • The 18th running of this annual event, opened in Ibiza town tonight and runs until Sunday May 14. The festival is a celebration of all things medieval and celebrates the naming of Dalt Villa as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1999.
    The event grows in popularity each season and this year will witness the area around Dalt Villa transformed into a medieval carnival, with bustling Jesters, Knights in armor, Dragons, Horses, Fire eaters, performers and artists all dressed in traditional costume.There will be lots to do and see, with live acts, comedians, music, dancing and all the fun and atmosphere of a medieval fair. There will be stalls full of local produce and crafts, reflecting the diverse range of cultures that the Island of Ibiza draws from.
    Throughout the whole weekend more than 100,000 people visit the markets and take part in the various activities and entertainment on offer.
    Some of the most noteworthy include: medieval theatre, falconry, archery and Arab dances. Choir concerts are also held in Dalt Vila’s churches and folklore exhibitions in the 16th century cloister that is the City Hall, together with other cultural entertainment.
    It is worth mentioning that around 130 craftspeople and around 40 actors take part in this festival. Besides events purely aimed at entertainment, more and more cultural events are being progressively added to the programme, in an attempt to delve a bit deeper into the history of Dalt Vila
