Me playing the organ at the beautiful church of St Nicholas in the village of Burton, near Neston, Cheshire.
The organ, job number A279, was built by the famous John Compton Organ Company Ltd in September 1934. In 1985 the organ was overhauled by Rushworth & Dreaper (who took over the pipe division of Comptons in the mid 1960s) and a new chamber at the rear of the church was built complete with a dummy pipe facade. In the usual Compton style, the organ is built using the extension principal with 4 ranks of pipes (Diapason, Hohl Flute, Salicional and Tromba) all fully enclosed with the exception of the 32ft polyphonic bass. The specification reads:

As we were in a church dedicated to St Nicholas' I thought I would play the hymn tune to that same name so here it is to the hymn "O God of truth, whose living word".
Many thanks to the church officials for allowing me access to this wonderful Compton organ.

REQUEST: I am always on the lookout for Compton organs to play - particularly electrones - so if you know of any churches which still have these then please do let me know. I will happily give a donation or pay any applicable room hire charge.
