I’m not actually sure if this product is fully open source on all fronts- but we deploy the cloud hosted option. I like that the software is easy for clients to understand. We have one client with a small wall of odd sized TVs where they make creative looking stuff. They had a power disturbance and lost 10 SD cards. flew out there, popped in the SD cards thinking it would take hours or complicated work to reconnect... nope. Just started back up. I looked like a master!
Annoyingly, they start up with WiFi ad hoc networks. I really wish those networks went away once they joined up to the server. It’s a big security vulnerability and noise on the WiFi.

A few years ago I needed to update weekly stats slides displayed on a big monitor at work. I didn't want to go through the hassle of asking working for internet access for the Pi (piSignage would have been perfect, I wasn't aware of it at the time), so I configured the pi so it would boot up and run fbi (frame buffer image viewer) to rotate through any PNGs in a folder on the USB drive. Once a week I shut it down, changed the PNGs on the USB drive, and started it back up. Very low bitrate (sneaker-net) for data transfer, but it worked, was easy to setup, and made my boss's boss happy.

I like the Video .. however .. another option is to use Open Office and use the power point option .. have been running our Pi with OO for 3+ years now and I did not spend the yearly $$$ .. I am an officer at our local Legion that in in charge of Tech type stuff ie: network / Pi / and the POS .. our Pi runs to 6 TVs and rotates all of our adds .. it is on 24/7 unless I am doing an update to it .. great info tho .. keep up the good work

OpenOffice (it is FREE) it may be called LibreOffice and download XScreensaver .. install both .. in XScreensaver you will need to click DISABLE the Screensaver otherwise it will start at the preset time .. Open OO and make your Power Point .. after you make your PP run the slide show .. you now have your banner rotator for your TV .. there are YT Vids on how to install and make PP in OO and there are Vids on YT how to install XS.. any other questions drop me a note ... Later and good luck

Question? It is not exactly clear either with your video or on their web site. Does every player whether it is a RPi, chrome browser or chrome cast device based need a license at $25 each even if you are using your own server totally offline? Does every instance of self maintained server also require a license be purchased? If none of the devices or the server ever get connected to the internet, then how does a device get registered?

So trying this in 2023. It seems you have to pay $25 per player (pi) as well at something like $20 per pi per year for the hosted platform. You get 2 free Pi license, but even if you are hosting your own server you still need to pay $25 per Pi over the initial two licenses or you get a watermark/banner on the sign itself.
