Retired December 2022 with a small pension. January 2023 my heater\air conditioner died, fence collaspsed and dish washer died. My entire savings was completely wiped out covering all the costs. I could have taken out a loan or used credit but like you I cannot abide having debt. Got myself a part time job at a warehouse and am rebuilding my savings slowly. The hours on my feet are well worth avoiding the stress of financial debt. Kudos to you Pepper Princess for being proactive in tackling your debt head on!
Omg. House repairs can be brutal. Things have been going out for decades in my house. I am over it. I think everything has been replaced or fixed. It never ends.
@@justwannasay5454, When you buy everything new , they seem to go out at the same time, can't win for losing...
Inflation is definitely out of control in this country which makes me very angry 😡
Thankfully before I quit work in May of 2020 I had put on a new roof bought furnace and central air and water heater all paid with cash I didn't want those expenses after retiring. I know other things can happen to a house but I felt those were the major repairs
@@PraveenSrJ01 In South Africa we have been living with very high inflation rates for ever! Welcome to my world!
Why didn’t the building inspector catch the sloping floor in the kitchen
And 10,000 PP fans screamed out silently "Aneurism!"
Broke is someone who is facing homelessness, after they've lived off of $50 for 3 weeks. Which I've done. Not someone who has an emergency fund, investments, or 2 houses. & I went through this during recession of 08, after my ex bailed on marriage, & left me with nothing.
Yes u r correct
Yep!
She did label the video, "The Broke Millionaire".
I can relate.
Two great take-aways from this video, "Do not spend your future to pay for the present." "Do not step off of the path." Excellent advice. I, too, get very antsy if a debt appears that I cannot knock out as soon as it occurs. I understand the stress of that. You are doing a great job.
I pay as soon as my bills come in & keep a spread sheet, I don't want to get behind..
It never ceases to amaze me how people prioritize their spending. Your newly purchased home's kitchen floor didn't just develop that 30% slope overnight; the former owner(s) were well aware of it yet went out and spent over $30K on solar? Really? Also, you're not broke, you're just temporarily cash poor.
The previous owner lived here 16 years and made zero updates. The last remodel was in 1952…I’ll explain in a future video. When he sold…after being here 16 years, he was in the red $2k after getting all the money from the sale of the house. So yeah, he did not handle his finances well at all.
@@PrepperPrincess Did you get an inspection prior to purchase?
@@PrepperPrincess the only recourse perhaps is did he disclose on the form 17?
Good point 👍
Water damage for sure
Seeing rocky and nala give the contractor all the kisses and love made my day. So cute!!
I could never save money, mostly because the 2 women I had married were big-time spenders! After my second divorce 6 years ago, I came to the sobering realization that at 55 with about 9 hundred dollars to my name I was Going to end up a flat-broke old gizzer in a tiny room somewhere!
I went into “PANIC ACTION” mode; exited my expensive rental apartment...bought a used small RV camper and basically LIVED on the city streets for 4 years.
My meals came from soup kitchens and city-run pantries.
Entertainment was CZcams videos, clothing came from discarded bins and throwaway!
A miserable existence to say the least, but I was able to save 44 thousand dollars!!
Bought a tiny cooperatives apartment ALL CASH. And by the GRACE of GOD, I am enjoying my life now!!
My monthly maintenance is tiny and I even have a balcony!
Robert-
There you go. Sometimes unconventional actions will help you.
PTSD of being broke before... is real. Stress and anxiety of being broke or in debt now, ,,,,, is real. I Love seeing you be empathetic, again, to people who are still in debt and trying to dig themselves out, since you now remember from where you came. ;)
I've been told that I have "bag lady syndrome" Cause I have the money I just live like I don't
Me too 😂

@@suecook8379 Sooo true !!
Thanks for saying that !!
Squandering anything is too common today !!!😊😊❤️❤️
It’s ok Amy my mom says I have 1930 mentality since I refuse to pay more than what I think things should cost, and yeah I search and ferret out that I need at the price I am willing to pay, got kids a 2 bedroom 1 bath cabin for 20k 😁 so yeah I might have 1930 mentality on what I am willing to pay for but kids have a home 😁 we finished it out and total cost 50k on half acre lot
That brain pop is called an aneurysm.
Hey Lady, Congrats on the new place to live. I've been watching you for years. I live debt free, too. I am a 74 year old retired school teacher who prepared for retirement by staying out of debt. I agree with you totally. I do not buy unless I have the cash. I do NOT live pay check to pay check. It is truly freeing to not have to wait on pay day to live again.
I have been debt free for decades, encouraged by working in the bank & seeing the nonsense people purchase on credit ... my house is paid for & I have 2 years salary in the bank as well as pensions that easily pay all my living expenses ... calm, I am calm ...
I can't stand debt either. Kudos to the construction guy for trusting that you'll follow through and pay him. 👍
I love the way you think... I've been out of debt for 30 years, and retirement is wonderful.
This issue resonates with me. This is why so many of us past a certain age are so angry. We've been frugal in order to have some breathing room. As the world passes the tipping point into full-on crazy, we really resent having to return to extremely frugal ways. So you've got company. You'll be okay. One step at a time, one day at a time.
I don’t resent it. That’s a pretty strong word. I am annoyed by it though.
We totally understand. Twenty-two years ago we did "180 Days Same As Cash" to pay for windows. It drove us crazy to owe money. We had been debt-free for several years. We made two payments and then I couldn't take it any more. I went in and paid off the whole amount.
You’re not broke, you’re temporarily cash poor. And I would have said yes to the contractor too. Around here, it’s either, hey, I can put you on the schedule this week, or yes, I can put you on the schedule in 4 months. I’m sure you’ll be paid up soon.
Debt free is the way to be.
I never pay a contractor before they're completely done I'm a pay them something a deposit but they typically don't always come back to finish if you pay them all up front also I'm not sure why CZcams income is down because literally the commercials are like hell lately
I had a horrible no-spend 6 months over the winter to pay for house maintenance. I was only paying back my savings but my own rules made my winter really boring. Thank goodness it’s over and now I’m back to normal debt free frugal living. I think this is just a reminder of how awesome you are to be able to pay it back so quickly while living on fresh air.
Our home is 127 yr. old. We have parts that head south, we say. You will be fine Prepper Princess.
Thank you so much for “keeping it real”. It’s so easy for us to forget that sometimes there are bumps in the road along our financial journeys…
When I saw your headlines my first thought was, "Oh, she must have paid her taxes!"
Not yet, I just sent in my taxes today. Not looking forward to the results even though I pre-pay quarterly.
I am debt free. It's such a wonderful feeling.
I'm blessed to have a job in housekeeping at a hospital.. Surprisingly enough they Actually Pay their employees decent and layoffs are not a thing..
If you're not above cleaning then it's a decent job to look into and the benefits are good as well.
I totally understand! I was in a stable job, my dream house was for sale and I took a look. Same-great deal. Short sale, etc. Wasn't quite mentally ready. Was waiting for military retirement. I was living debt free. I had been saving. BUT I bought it. Within months, major layoff. Anyway, because, like you, I am frugal, I managed to make it to my next job. BUT I was really emotionally a wreck to make it work. Today, I make double payments and dream of being debt free once again. What you describe is called "house poor", but it is the reason to persist. HOME.
Some of us are in ACTUAL trouble.
Well ............. that was the best endorsement for a contractor ever!!! Loved seeing this!!
I do the same sometimes, a meal is not always, meat and two veg. But whatever is in the fridge
You ain't broke.. your money is just tied up at the moment and you had a few expensive adjustments force their way into your life... And NO, I wouldn't pull money out of the 401K either... You don't need advise from us, as I am sure that once the contractor is paid you will go back to building your Emergency Fund again....
He is already paid and emergency fund is 1/4 fully funded. I took on some side work to get all paid up. This video was intended for my viewers that were pressuring me to make more house updates when I can’t afford to, but I don’t use a teleprompter so my thought process spiraled.
Aneurysm
Aneurysm? You are correct about the light at the end of the tunnel. When you get debtt free, the sense of freedom and peace is amazing.
Debt free for over 10 years, plenty of savings, nothing better. 🤑
Agree. Same here!
Once I became debt free I could finally start living, enjoying the birds, standing up straight, and overall enjoying life again. To anyone out there - please don’t give up - you will get there. No matter what your income is put yourself on a budget and your future self will be so thankful.
Contractor seems to be a sweetheart. And I really appreciate it when you add your dogs and show all that love.
I don't know what happened, but I haven't had any notifications for your vids for over a month! I'm still watching, but the algorithm no longer puts you on my home page!

@@PrepperPrincess You got it, I shall follow through! At first, had wondered if I hecame "unsubbed"... catching up with what I've missed lately! Just watched your 20 lb.wt loss vid...Sheesh, screw that toxic jerk who trolled you! All the best wishes on finding the right girl! 🍀🤞
I relate to you so much. My family is always making fun of me because we are net worth millionaires. We follow a budget, I am very frugal. No debt, no mortgage. We own a business and we are slow right now. I’ve been extra careful and poured over credit card bills (paid monthly, get points ) to try to cut those 20% off my already thrifty life.
I don’t want to compromise my savings goals. I’d rather cut the spending.
We are also net worth millionaires. If you pull money out of your accounts you have to pay taxes on that $. I’d rather cut spending also.
@@bridge7528 congratulations on doing the work. 💪
Well, you shouldn’t pay a contractor all at once anyway . Some up front , some in the middle and the rest at the end . This ensures the job gets done . I’m not broke and I don’t have debt . That’s just how it works with contractors
"I'm not going to take from my future to pay for my present."

I have several comments. First, the important one. I’m 4’8” tall and have a top loading washer. I use a pair of kitchen tongs to take my clothes out of the washer. 😸
I have a top-loader and I HAVE KITCHEN TONGS!! Thanks for sharing!
i have a frugal tip for you! I recently got a big apron that covers most of my front and back. I wear it all the time when I am home, when cleaning, doing dishes, cooking, eating. I can wear my same clothes for an amazing amount of time! They just never get dirty. My cotton apron has a green and off-white small pattern all over. It gets dirty but doesn't really show anything for quite a while, and then it must be washed. It really has cut down on my washing. A regular sized chef-type apron is not quite as big but probably will do a pretty good job if it has a busy pattern on it.
Is the job finished? If not , Do not pay him anymore. A third in the beg., a third in middle of job and when he is finished pay the rest. So many contractors take off with money and do not finish job.
I UNDERSTAND the griping feeling of owing somebody!!! Hey don't complain about the previous guy's curtain rod... he was obviously using what he had which included his ingenuity ..
Fortunately, I paid him off shortly after filming this video but it was weighing on me for far too long. Far too long being about a month.
You have inspired me so much …just paid off our house and I can’t explain the relief we feel. Take us along when you do your projects😘
I know your pain with the washer. We just purchased a condo and it came with the HE washer. I can’t reach the bottom. I have to use tongs to get the laundry out. 😂
Me too
So glad you found and rescued your baby girl. Your pups are great!
You brighten my day.
Stay safe Princess
I’m almost debt free. Only about $1000 away from total debt freedom. I used to be such a mess with money. But I have worked hard to clean up the mess.
I know exactly how you feel, been going through it for years 😪. Thanks for your vlogs, they give me comfort and some peace of mind. I'm sticking with the frugal plans, and faith in myself.
You are doing Great!!! Take a deep breath and relax. And remember no matter how crappy it feels, "this too shall pass", you are inspiring. Keep on keeping on.🙂
I really am impressed of how you've managed to stay out of debt for so long thus far. I'm quite sure you will climb out of the current debt you have rapidly since you've stayed out of it for many years now. Kudos to you for all the wisdom you have gained over the years and now pass over to us! I so appreciate how you deal with these issues of debt and frugality! You are a great inspiration to me and to others. Keep up the great work!!!!

So you're house poor, not broke. We've all been there.
No matter what you own you can't take it with you...
Love your honesty PP! Btw I finally resigned my position and I’ll leave in August (4 months earlier than planned). I feel so relieved but also a little sad that chapter of my life will be over. I was at the library this morning (Sunday). The librarian said how nice it was I was getting all the books for my class (I have a teacher library card). She said I was a good teacher to go above and beyond like that - I had a lump in my throat but I didn’t tell her I’ve resigned. It’s the right time to start a hopefully lesser stressed chapter of my life. I still have some mortgage to pay off but I’ll make it work, I always do. I’ve been planning this for a long time. Hopefully I can start an online tuition business but if not, I’ll look for a job. I have breathing space to make it work. Best wishes 😊
I don’t turn lights on during the day anymore because of you. I used to because it was habit and even though it’s daylight there’s still a shadow, but I don’t anymore. I unplug 4 small appliances until,I need them. There’s a few other things but you get the idea… all of these changes inspired by you. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You seem to have won the lottery on honest contractors. You are where you need to be.
Thanks for the insight and perspective and letting us know you are sorta kinda feeling it, too. I am still in awe of you and value your advice so much. Your house looks lovely. Can't wait to see your further renovations.

Being debt free is a very good feeling. I never take advice and don't give it because I know people won't listen
it just proves what we already know, your not used to being in debt! it’s actually a good reminder not to take anything for granted, life really is precious and you’ll pay it next month. love your emotional empathy for others in debt xxxx
Took a little time to read through some of the comments. Seriously people? She's human like we all are... she'll be fine...if you aren't aware, she is more than capable. Praise her over videos you like yet crush her when there is one you don't. Keep doing you PP.
Your pups are just the sweetest ❤🐕
It's great you had the resources to cover the repair! Sometimes homes feel like money pits, they're constant upkeep, but at least all repairs pay for themselves in the end.
For me once it’s updated, it’s done. I never really have maintenance after that.
Walking is great! You're a smart woman. However, you might be missing something. Investing in quality food is probably a good investment for the future.
Aneurysm! I was always paranoid about ending up on the street, so I saved every penny and invested in mutual funds. Sure enough, when I turned 60, I became unemployable, and the mutual funds have generated enough income to replace my lost salary. But I still worry. A pandemic comes along, Vladimir Putin starts a war, you never know what will tank your investments. I try to live on just half my income and reinvest the other half. It feels like I'm just treading water. I suppose that's a lot better than many others have it these days. I'm delaying taking social security. That will have to be my "fallback" source of income if worse comes to worst.
Putin going to start a war? 😂.
You can still earn just over $21,000 annually while on SS without penalty. In the calendar year when you reach full retirement age that goes to over $56,000 earnings before penalties. Why are you waiting on SS?
@@johnboylong40 Thank you for your concern. I guess you missed the "unemployable" part.

I can relate to owing money. I've used 12-month, no interest plans at Lowes/Home Depot and it drives me absolutely crazy to owe. I end up paying it off early because I can't stand it.

What a riot with the contractor and dogs..you can always tell a person is top notch when dogs relate that way to them! I so enjoy your content..so sorry to hear that you tubers income is less, not sure why but hope it improves quickly as it is such a valuable thing to us out here who watch you deserve e,very penny and more for what we all gain. I do not afford TV but love to learn from You tube so I value great channels and am sorry to hear revenue is down for you all, gosh I hope that changes quickly back to what it was for you. Have a great day.😊
Great video as always! I've been told that contractors shouldn't be paid in full prior to the job being completed. Half at the beginning, some during construction if needed for materials, and the balance at the end of the job. This avoids the contractor from taking your money and disappearing before the job is done. But I get it. Having that huge unpaid bill hanging out there is maddening. thanks for sharing & looking forward to seeing videos of the rest of the renovations🙂. Love the puppies 🐶🐶
Congratulations on getting a new little home! Good work!

I am out in a secluded area in Havasu that I pulled my little cargo trailer with my electric bike when all of it sudden my truck brakes down. So having truck repaired and getting lower on cash. Good thing I brought some gold because glad to accept that as payment. But I have some food and water, a roof over my head and electric bike. Good time for prayer and practicing Faith in God's will for my life. Thanks for the video. Oh and another thing, finding out who and what your friends are all about.
Though I have yet to read your book (will get to it this summer) I started out reading The Richest Man in Babylon, back when I was in debt & had a whopping 540 credit score. It changed my financial perspective dramatically and now 7 years later - I am debt free, also a multi-millionaire yet live the same lifestyle I did when I was broke. I enjoy your content and look forward to each new video. I choose what others would consider 'extreme' food budgeting and purchased 25 LBS of dry black beans & 40 lbs of basmati rice for my meals which I augment with inexpensive proteins when they are on sale, or in the reduced food section. I am also doing a "Pantry Burn" and not buying any food items unnecessarily. My monthly food cost purchased at Albertsons came out to be $23.42 cents last month. It's amazing living debt free and knowing that I am not 'robbing' my future self by purchasing things on credit. I do utilize 1 of 17 credit cards which I charge everything to and earn airline miles for travel, but it is paid off before the end of every month so I pay zero interest. btw - Give rocky a 'hug' from me, I am looking into the brindle breed of Cain Corsos currently.
Owing people money drives me nuts. I feel you. I am 💯 debt FREE.
Great video! Thanks for the pep talk!
Your advice is/has been excellent. Fixing your foundation was a must. The financial timing for this work was not great. Sometimes it is ok to borrow money, small amount for a short period of time. You will survive this! Loved that your dogs loved your contractor!
A couple of comments. Brain aneurysm is probably what your dad had.
You are so correct about the debt-free lifestyle. Knowing you have no debt obligations of any kind is probably the most liberating thing in the world and allows you to do so much more with your money and life. So, keep up the good work!
As I’ve already posted in a previous video, I make ALOT of money and have a very large multi-million-dollar investment portfolio. Even with that, I sweated bullets at just the thought of possibly going into debt for anything. I can still remember the day I paid off my house quite a few years ago which was the last debt obligation I had (on my birthday, no less). That was the best birthday celebration ever. So, since that day I’ve cash-flowed every single purchase including real estate purchases and renovations, vehicle purchases, two airplanes and still sock away a ton of money into bonds and equities every year because I’m not servicing any debt.
@@pennynickels5216 Actually we have three. Two Bonanzas and a Cessna 150 (trainer for our kids to get pilots licenses).
