Livia is great because a a show is only as good as it’s villains….fun fact: the patient who has dialogue about his old therapist is writer Terrence Winter who has written some of the best Sopranos episodes but also wrote The Wolf of Wall Street and created Boardwalk Empire the dude can write

Someone may have said it already but to me Street Boss always meant Tony's the acting boss. Since Junior was arrested Tony is the guy that's "out on the street" (in other words a free man) and able to run their family.

I absolutely love The Sopranos the best series at that time. I love the storyline that shows the family values, instead of just shooting people up. I love the scenes between Tony and Melfi.
Brocco was offered the role of Carmela. But she turned it down because she didn’t want to get typecast coming off Goodfellas. She took the role of Dr. Melfi because it was a different role and challenging. Enjoy. Great reaction!
"They pull me back in" is a reference to the Godfather
You should really watch the Godfather Trilogy AND Goodfellas to get all the easter eggs that Sopranos contains. There are a lot of Sopranos actors in Goodfellas.
"Shy" is an abbreviation for "Shylock", which is a reference to a loan shark/moneylender. It's from The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare. So a shy (Shylock) business is someone who gives out loans at an interest. Most mobsters with strong cash flow engage in that business.

31:40 At the start of the pandemic, 2 of the main actors from the show started a video podcast on youtube. Talking Sopranos with Michael Imperioli (Christopher) and Steven Schirippa (Bobby, who makes his 1st appearance in the show here!) They got me through some hard times in covid lockdown but they also brought back a lot of the actors, crew, even the odd superfan episode. The podcasts are very long, each one takes a single episode at a time and goes into it in huge detail but, seeing how the cast are now, hearing the stories behind the scenes, it's all very good stuff.

The first episode's ending is about the fact that he needs someone to talk to after being rejected by Melfi and the other therapist, so he comes home early to his wife but doesn't know how to communicate with her and that's why there's this awkward silence

I’m sad I didn’t catch this earlier. My brother mentioned it after I watched it, and it made so much sense to me.
4:28 "street" boss is typically a title given to the guy running the family while the "boss" is in jail, however on the Soprano's the FBI is unaware that Junior is actually a "front boss" meaning Tony is actually the boss and the family is using Junior to take the heat as boss away from Tony (unbeknownst to Junior of course he thinks he's the real boss). This tactic was used by the mob in real life most notably in the Genovese (the most powerful New York/American) mafia family). Vito Genovese died in 1969 and the FBI thought multiple different people succeeded each other as boss of the family and Fat Tony Salerno was actually indicted in the early 80's as boss but now it is speculated that Vincent "Chin" Gigante may have actually been the boss from 1969 until his death in 2005 and is arguably the most powerful Italian American mobster of all time, he feigned insanity for like 30+ years regularly checking himself into mental institutions and convincing FBI doctors he was crazy for a very long time, he walked around his neighborhood in pajamas and a bath robe talking to fire hydrants and being crazy for many years, but there are tapes where supposed boss Fat Tony is heard being asked questions but then replying "I don't know I'll have to check with the boss" when he supposed to be the boss... also no one was allowed to say Chin's name when talking about him they were only allowed to point to their chin's. He actually ordered the murder of John Gotti after Gotti had Gambino family boss Paul Castellano murdered and Gotti taking over as their boss because Gotti didn't get permission to kill Castellano.

I cant get over how hilarious it is (meaning 0 disrespect, its just youve made it clear youre not a mob aficionado. To top it off youre a young chill chick) that you dont miss a beat! Lol! Im a die hard uber super ultra sopranos fan and mob fan in general and ive watched probably a dozen sopranos reactions videos and many are dudes clearly from the city, if not the hood. Meaning, theyre in the same ballpark as far as understanding how people make money in the hood. If you understand how drug organizations function, you have a semblance of an idea when your introduced to cosa nostra. Youre so ridiculously much more sharp and observant than every single sopranos reaction channel's I've seen and i love it.
At its time this was the best show on television. Side note, Jamie Lynn Sigler (Meadow) and Robert Iler (AJ )have a podcast. It's called "Not Today Pal"

When I was teaching I knew another teacher who would take the National Teacher's Exam for people for $1,000. He would apply for a lost driver's license in their name and get the picture himself. They probably closed that loophole now. BTW wasn't me, I took my own lol
This show is the best show ever made....in any time frame arguably.....watching it live week to week on Sundays and years passing between only one season....was the best...nobody missed an episode and it transcended tv....in so many ways....rooting for the villain became normal and we loved it!😂
Another excellent Sopranos reaction by you Cristy! Everyone should definitely watch the Godfather at least once in their lives. There was another movie referenced in the episode called, Analyze This during Tony's counseling session. Once you're done watching Sopranos and the Godfather. You should definitely watch Analyze This and the sequel Analyze That. They're kinda like the Sopranos but are comedies. Analyze This actually came out a little while after the Sopranos but were being filmed around the same time. They kind of have the same premise, but the Sopranos is way more dramatic of course. I think you would like em.

You need to watch Godfather 1 and 2, literally every mob movie/show after those have references back to them guy that plays Junior is in Godfather part 2, Goodfellas and Casino are also must watch mafia movies too.

Another great reaction. It’s amazing how this show just keeps getting better till the end, no other show can say the same. I’m sure it’s been said but the pool scene references are from the Godfather. Unpopular opinion: they’re great mafia movies, great stories, amazing cast…but… I think it’s a little overrated and some hype them up because it’s kinda expected. I think Goodfellas and Casino are truly great movies in general but top mafia films.

The sopranos is the only series I know of that got better and better every season!
3 and 4 are peak Sopranos 5 was great, but nowhere near the writing. Pine Barrens, Amour Fou, and Whitecaps are masterclass. Seasons 5 and 6 are great, but neither are on the same level of 3 and 4.
@@CoryGasaway I don't know about that. The writing, if anything, is even more brilliant in those seasons, especially when it came to the ending's build up. They told you absolutely everything you needed to know without needing to show you. The only issue I have is with Gandolfini's performance, specifically the 'ackshent.' It got pretty loony tunes in the end there, especially in comparison to season 1. His performance otherwise was perfect.

This show does a really good job ofgood job humanizing mobsters. I’ve known a few & you would never guess they were mobsters. Some of the nicest guys ever!
You’re comment about smoking was thumbs up. I find i do think the same, as well I catch myself doing the accent haha. His sister ‘erks’ me the entire show, I think everyone had an aunt/cousin similar to her in one way or another.
The season opening episode ends with Tony eating leftover pasta.. which lets us know Father Phil hasn't been there eating it.

At 10:50 there’s a major clue about Big P* when Silvio is doing the Godfather impressions. It didn’t make it into your CZcams edit (if you were aware of the reference you probably would have left it in) but it goes like this…
Silvio impersonates the Godfather who figured out the person that betrayed him. He quotes the Godfather, “It was you, Fredo” and the camera cuts to Big Puss. Coincidence??? 😮
There are tons of clues and hidden references in the Sopranos that you barely notice the first time you watch it. The writing is absolutely brilliant which is what makes the show so watchable over and over.
After season 5 we had to wait almost 2 years for the final season😡

I think the end of episode 1 was to show tony can’t talk to Carmella and open up about his problems the way he does melfi. Just what I took from it at least.

Yes, you should watch Godfather 1 and 2!... skip 3. Close the book after 2 like everyone should have. They are 2 of the greatest films ever made. Not a wasted scene in either of the two films. Amazing tension.
Also, watch Goodfellas (it is just as brilliant as the first two Godfathers). Casino and Donnie Brasco are also amazing. Mob cinema is a necessary watch for any true fan of film.
For some reason most reactors miss that screen where it’s clear Pussy is the rat. They don’t catch on until several more episodes. Weird I know... just glad you caught it.
You’ll be pleased to watch Meadow & AJ grow up. Meadow grows up to be stunningly beautiful & they both mature into seriously good actors. Part of the experience of watching the show is watching them grow up so yeah don’t google them. Just saying you’ll be very pleased to experience kid actors actually growing up & becoming great actors as adults. AJ being the youngest takes the longest but before the show is over his acting will tear your heart out many times. Be patient. It’s definitely worth it!!

It makes me happy you picked up on Janice being a little shady so quickly. Just like Nancy Marchand ( who plays Olivia), Aida Turturro (plays Janice) does an amazing job at being unlikable. You're in for a hell of a ride with this show, but Janice in particular will make you have some big type of feelings about her along the way.
Definitely check out What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) I think you might like it.

Boardwalk Empire is another HBO series about organized crime, but it has a different vibe. It has a lot of characters based on actual people and it's set in the prohibition era, when organized crime _really_ took off.
Gosh, as much as I’d love to do an all-mafia dedicated channel, I have to sprinkle them among other non-mob related content 😂 I promise I’ll start crossing those off the list soon!

Good analysis ! This series and Tony as his character don't really fully gel ,till next season. Then Tony is Tony. Season 1 was really weak compared to what lies ahead .S.2 is better,but still in infancy . The Pilot was actually shot in 1997 almost 2 years before S.1 -episode 2 was filmed & the premier in 99' . That is why everyone looks different from Ep.1-Ep.2 . Especially Gandolfini. This is gonna be a long haul. You still basically have 6 more seasons ahead!

Tony is a bad guy but he is very sympathetic. However, we as the audience members kind forego his terrible actions due to his likeable nature. It's exactly what the writers intended.
