I was there on the film sound crew. Steven Stills and his band had been in England rehearsing prior to this tour. He hired an British film crew to shoot at Madison Square. Sixteen track (I think . . it was a long time ago ... ) was a mobile rig from the West coast, we film sound crew took a feed from their board in to the Nagra for film sync. When we arrived in the afternoon for sound check a US union chief ( IATSE ?) said NO, you ain't got the right papers, Union shop here! Stills was producing the film, he said OK bring in your guys, let them sit backstage. Seven more camera men! The show was wild! Steven Stills so wrecked I thought at one moment he was going to fall on top of me as he was stomping and twirling right at the front of stage, me in the pit below, transfixed. And the hall was rocking, the packed crowd jumping and the floor shaking! Holy shit, rock and roll !!! The party afterwards, in a solid gold hotel. Mountains of white powder. All out of this world and extraordinary for this young lad from London! This is the only sign I've seen of the footage. We shot the whole concert on seven cameras. 16mm film. What happened to it all? Lost in the madness of those days . . . Steven Stills, a giant talent in music lives on! Not me, by the way, calling the roll numbers . . . Evidently even this one song not completed in post production.
Great video of this show ! I saw him in Seattle for the portion of the tour he remembers as" the Drunken Memphis Horns Tour' was walking around the venue and here he comes out from sound check. I asked him to autograph the copy of Stills 2 and he did.......he saw my acoustic guitar and asked "you play man?" and next thing I know we're sitting on stage and going through a half hour of "trying to play" with him. He was a great host but he and half the band were drunk on their butts ( saw everyone had is own bottle of JACK). Well, in a daze I left and came back later for the show. He was staggering all over the stage but you wouldn't know it from the Music and the vocals.
I saw him in Portland the night after you saw him in Seattle. July 1971. He was really hung over, he said, and talked about how drunk he'd gotten the night before. Still a great show.
3/5 of Manassas in the band: Fuzzy, Dallas, and Paul Harris. Stills was working that old Gretsch Country Gentleman and whammin' that Bigsby. Great stuff!
This is for blusmahn. I saw him in Portland the night after you saw him in Seattle. July 1971. He was really hung over, he said, and talked about how drunk he'd gotten the night before. Still a great show.

I was at the old Coliseum for that show in the summer of 1971. Great concert, loved the Memphis Horns!
Somewhat proud that no one mentioned the lack of EC. SS Rules

Great voice. What a range!
I was there & MSG the next year!!! The two best concert I have ever seen. I think NY brought out the best in him.
+Joe Richard Actually, the Nassau coliseum the next year.
There seems to be a bit of losing the 1. I actually love this. Manassas was one great band.

He does look a little stoned ! ! !
But sounds sensational. What more could you ask for?
Who needs more?
A rock band not stoned in 1970’s would be a major concern
