Are some people seriously trying to justify the Rana regime? They ruled Nepal for a century with a dictatorial and autocratic grip that did nothing but hold the country back.
Sure, they opened a few colleges, but that was just to please a limited number of people and keep their dictatorship intact. Their main focus was on maintaining power, not on the development of Nepal. They neglected broader education and infrastructure, leaving most people poor and uneducated. They tightly controlled trade and foreign relations, stunting economic growth. While other countries were progressing, Nepal was stuck in stagnation because of their self-serving rule. There’s a reason why it’s called dark age of Nepal.
Justifying this regime disrespects the martyrs who fought for freedom and progress. How can anyone say that was good for the country?
