  • Meet the Moskvich 412, the everyday hero of classic cars that proudly wears its scratches and dents like battle scars. It's not just a vehicle; it's a time machine, taking you back to an era when cars were built tough, and rust was considered a feature. Today, we embark on a journey to explore the experience of owning and driving this piece of Soviet charm in 2023.
Step into the salon and soak in the luxury, especially in the AZLK Moscow-made models with their brown seats and a soft black dashboard-luxuries reserved for the deep-pocketed back in the day.
Under the hood, the Moskvich roars with a 1.5-liter engine, rumored to be a Soviet iteration of the BMW M10 engine, licensed but with some tweaks for enhanced maintainability. This translates to impressive performance, evident in the numerous racing victories it has notched up. However, the Soviet engineers missed updating the gearbox from older models, causing it to struggle with the powerful and newer BMW engine.
The Moskvich gained recognition through racing successes, competing internationally and showcasing durability. Its victories in races like the London to Sydney and London to Mexico City boosted sales and exports, becoming a source of foreign currency for the USSR. While durability may have been its strong suit 50 years ago, it's a different story now! Owning a Moskvich is like having a quirky pet-brake failures, leaky gearboxes, and a carburetor that demands constant attention. Starting from a traffic light feels like a theatrical performance. It stalls at every intersection, but who cares? Moskvich 412 still offers a fun and stylish ride, a brief escape from the chaos of the modern world every time you take it out for a spin.

I haven't heard about the international racing success and was surprised by the volumes of export sales. I think I saw a couple of Ladas in Sweden and Finland, but would be genuinely surprised seeing a Moskvich in the UK.

Very Nice. How do you perform rust prevention? Which engine coolant do you use?
Do you have a youtube.link to the song starting at 3:40 ?

Currently I don’t have extremely bad rust problem, but of course, soon that will be a big problem. However, I try to keep the car always dry.
In terms of engine coolant - got a blue GO11 FEBI

А чего по русски не судьба рассказать? Хотя лапша на уши про бмв мотор лучше на английском звучит. Но тех. часть лучше конечно подтянуть.
