We need more of this to educate those who believe that eating meat or raising beef has a negative impact on the environment. Bison and other wildlife have been grazing North America for thousands of years. I’m glad more and more of this almost lost information is being implemented once again! Know soil, know life; no soil, no life. Great video!!
In Bolivia they been raising cow grass feed since always, but now a feedlot fever is growing. We need to spreed the word to continue grass feed cattle.
Yeah, don't go down the feed lot road; it is a parasitic system.. It makes the cattle and the consumers sick as well as draining all profits from everyone except the Multinationals who will end up owing the lots.
Have u been to Bolivia and seen the ranching there
Living my lifelong dream. I get evangelical about regenerative ag. Keep it going!
Me, too. Have you noticed how more and more products raised this way are showing up in stores? I even bought some grass-fed beef hot dogs! Really good. :)
love the mid 80s chevy squarebody he has for the farm truck!
It's surprisingly green for a desert ,
Love the approach ...
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. Beautifully produced and an awesome run down of what 4J is about! Hope you enjoyed the beef!
Thanks Jesse, it was an honor to come out and experience the farm, thanks for having me. Oh we LOVE the beef!
I am a transplant from S.CA., and bought 80 acres in NE NV. This is exactly what I envisioned; I love Am Kestrels (favorite), participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count every year, believe in organic natural growing techniques. Although I bought the land in 2017, I have not had the resources to begin with a business.
watch greg judy’s channel, start small and build
We see cattle grazing in many places in San Diego. I think most of them are grain finished though. Great to see grass finishing!
All grazing is being managed, what makes the true difference is if the grazing is being planned according to a context that takes complexity into consideration so that there will be a satisfying outcome, for whoever is part of the project.
Oh my gosh!! This is so exciting, I had no idea this was happening here in San Diego! Thank you for the lesson and info. I would totally buy beef from him. Hope you are doing well!
beautiful! thanks for sharing your story, Mr. Austel. From Canada.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome interview!
This was very interesting... Thank you.
Man, I'm always torn between too much government and big business. This guy has struck what appears to be the perfect balance. Why cant more people just do the right thing like this?
Limited resources? Fear of being unemployed? Fear of not getting enough to sustain their physical and mental health? Obstructed, lesser truthful perceptions? Too much distraction from what is more essential?
gtg, want to do something else.
Have a good evening or whatever time of day it is.
Careful word choice aids understanding: "too much government and big business" invoke manipulative straw-men. Abstractly, in a republic, government champions common concerns, while in a desirable economy, Big business exemplifies efficacy of larger scale. But when perverted, through misappropriation, understanding loses.
Governments always turn evil followed by business.
Besides Catalytic Centaur states is that cattle has bad propaganda.
So many diversity and very healthy stand nothing to change and the most important thing he is respecting nature, hands down to him
Great information. Thanks!
Love this. 🤍🤍🤍 Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏼
I love this.
Amazing!
Our nation is waking up, seeing the gaping cracks in its factory farm system. Now, people are turning to regenerative farms as ethical food source. Your video is much needed in this area: THE MORE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS, THE BETTER. If y'all want to learn more, we have a video: A PASSION FOR POULTRY | *A REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE STORY* . If you're interested in learning more, click on the channel icon to learn about the ethics of this new farming and our odd methods (yes, we _fast_ our birds!) Again, a wonderful video! Cheers!
They say that a grass fed beef diet makes your eyebrows grow.....
Those are an eyebrows that's electrical tape.

I would be interested toknow what the herd genetics are, during our pioneering regenerative work in the 70's it became apparent that some projects were failing, or not doing as well as others due to the wrong cattle (genotypes) being used. Breeding and selecting from own herds goes a long way in concentrating the right, adapted genotype for the specific environment and management style. A good article, thank you for covering this project.
Andy
Hello hope you are doing great
I hope these programs reach out to wild horse/rented cattle pasture Federal lands for the Bureau of Land Managment - BLM
Simply beautiful. And for San Diego? Fantastic! For clarity, What time of year was this filmed?
We still need more beavers nexts to all the streams and mountains to at least retain water and rehydrate the land that will also help with wildfires especially if they are high in the mountains because they will keep the high ground safe and make less places really dry to where it’s hard to reach
what's better for reg. agri? eating meat or not?
What kind of nests are in the tree in the background?
Cal Poly SLO Crop Science 1970. Do you remember Leslie Sanderson or Toby Irwin AS in the early 70's
very light on details of the actual method... almost to 13:00 before anything substantial...
So I thought you moved to Tennessee?
Dr Elaine Ingham advised ranchers in Australia. She found 2 brothers willing to make compost on the ranches.Just by composting and drenching leaves in compost tea, she was able to save her average rancher $170,000 US on feed, vet bills, pesticides and fertilizers. She increased feed quality.
Forage and berries require fungal dominant compost which is made from leaves, wood chips and manure more than the regular veggie style compost most people have.
I would try a little Korean Natural Farming IMO from a forest as a starter for a fungal dominant compost as wood chips and leaves take forever to compost.
This is her webinar: Elaine Ingham Part 2 From Barren Ground to Fertile Soil The Sustainable Design Masterclass czcams.com/video/69sR8opXd8w/video.html
I did I filmed this right before I let. Elaine is great.
Can you do an update on the soldier fly please or do you not have them anymore?
I'll be building a new system at my new home.
The facebook link doesn't work anymore and I would like to support this ranch is there another way to get involved ?
Cattle and goats?
Man, you should work those beautiful eyebrows into your logo.
what breed of cattle are they running?
Moin ;) interessanter Clip! Schön!! :D
Hast du schon mal zufällig jenes Miracle Health Water aus so einem Aktivwasser Generator jemals ausprobiert?
Dieses Getränk ist richtig phänomenal! 😊
Es hilft einem echt aktiv zu bleiben . ❤
What was that grass called, Zillary?
Filaree I believe is how it's spelled
Is it possible to do regenerative grazing with horses? I’m about to move to Nevada, the place we’re renting has 5 acres and I’d like to graze my horse in a similar way, but I don’t know if I need to do anything different with a horse?
I have seen horse folks complain that their animals got too fat using rotational management. I'd guess their horses were on too much pasture and/or didn't get to run/work to burn off some calories. If my grazers got too fat, I'd increase my livestock or let some excess pasture rest for extended periods. Greg Judy is a great guru of regenerative grazing, but he (and I) are back East where rainfall is not so scarce.
This area looks just like eagle Idaho even though I know it’s not
My only question is why you would wean your animals. Couldn't the cows wean the calves on their own? Seems like the longer the calves can get milk along with the grass, the better for them.
This whole movement needs to spread to private land as well. I would be more than ok if the government subsidized this method, because it will improve soil, create food, and sequester carbon as well. WIN, WIN, WIN.
Sorry but the Gov't is busy supporting conventional agriculture.
They also have a track record of fouling up the things they meddle in.
YES I'd love to see regenerative practices take off like a GREENFIRE--where things get GREEN and lush rather than scorched.
That voice is me.
Think sheep should be used as part of forbes management...
Studies have shown (U of Kansas I think) that three-species grazing is best for the land. Two species is second-best. and of course one species is least optimal. In their trials were cattle, sheep, and goats. Each one prefers slightly different food, with lots of overlap. Back east here sheep are great to get some value from the ironweed that covers all cow pastures where sheep aren't ever grazed. Bovines won't touch it, but it grows about every where there is a single head.
@@wadepatton2433
Agreed, as a minimum. I follow Mark Shepard and he uses more variety in his own set up.. Regarding others he has, in some instances, used less variety in setting up for others, whom desire more passive set ups.
They need to add sheep in this arrangement, the third leg I leave open.
Geese or guinea hens might be appropriate as they are good watch dogs and capable of being more independent, though not entirely. It might be that wild birds can fill the niche of managing pests...
Could teach 1/2 of the panhandle something...oh wait it just burned.
What in the muppet baby caterpillar is going on round here
So if you were to put two humans in cages next to each other, would they yell for each other? No, but they would be ridiculously stressed. That's almost worse. Just give it a little extra time and they wean them naturally. And yes I have a farm.
Humans are not the same. Our social structure is entirely different. The cows have lower stress when they can see and interact with their calves, even if the calf is unable to reach their udder. I do this every night with my dairy goats so I can milk the mama in the morning. I put the baby in a crate inside the pen where the mama is. Zero stress.
@@rachelholdt6840 The "human" statement was facetious and you're talking about something that your goats are used to doing every night and doesn't last very long. Big difference from the first time out of nowhere. I could also add that I was working with cattle way before you were born so there's that. Just my opinion. But I don't play the ukulele so you got me there.
Keep cattle out of the pond.
Keep cattle out of pond on your own land
Those cattle ranchers are hurting, and I feel badly for them. But it's the cattle and dairy industries in general that have created the drought problems that are destroying them. By clearing the land and causing runoff and soil erosion. Not to mention soil pollution from animal waste. Which makes that land unhealthy to farm. I would suggest if they want to survive, and the planet to survive, to switch to greenhouse farming, since the ground is now ruined. No animals or dairy. Just grow organic fruits and vegetables. Use plant-based and organic liquid fertilizers. No animal fertilizers. Or find land that hasn't been polluted by cattle, etc., and grow organic produce only. Use farming methods that retain water. I know there are ways, like contouring or terracing, crop rotation, and so on. I'm no expert in that, but it can be done, unlike ranching or dairy. Use plant compost and hay for fertilizers. Plus with produce you don't need to worry about animal abuse.
Shave your eyebrows please.
The tom selleck of eyebrows , thiccc and well groomed. Lol
Noooo....
They are big. But don't shave them.

Grass fed cows in the desert????
Udder bullshit.
Clearly you’re responsible for the rainforests!!!
But no one is talking about it. I speak the truth through CZcams comments.
