Im from Norway and i`m getting the Instrument Technician education now. When im done I hope to get work in the US so I can move over there. That would be a dream come true for me!
Lee College Baytown, TX has the degree program (2.5 years) or just the certification 1.5 years) Not all colleges offer it, when you get NCCER certified start pay is 25-35 per hour.

Does anyone know how good HCC's (Houston Community College) program is?
It looks like there's a lot of aspects to learn in this job. Do they teach you all this in school ?
only just the basics and fundamentals.The courses enable you to better understand the instruments you will working with at a generic level so that learning new or alternative tech is easy.So it's just as he said 80% is learned on the job, also because some of the instruments are huge, expensive and proprietary so you won't handle them till you start working.
The scope of instrument work far exceeds what you could show in a 5 minute video. I think I'd like to work in a shop..... warm in the winter, cool in the summer, no hard hat, no stripes, no FR gear, no working under air, no gloves and from the looks of it all the tools are provided!! Sign me up.
You don't really have to go through a set track of apprentice to journeyman to master. You could always hire into a plant or facility as a C man and go through a progression based on demonstrations. At least that way there is no set number of years to slow down your progression.
What is better an industrial technician (automation) or a instrument technician?
To me an instrument technician is a lot more easier?
What are the curriculum?
Some provinces such as Quebec this trade doesn't exist is most likely done by other people such some hybrid electro-mechanical derivatives of engineering.
This is not even a hundredth of what an Instrument Tech does either.

Of course! If you want to do something don't ever think that you will or will not be able to do it because of your gender. I am doing Instrumentation at Lee College in Baytown, TX and there are many women in the industrial programs.

We do not teach tube bending because it pertains more to a craft called instrument fitter. We concentrate on a maintenance technician skill set. However we do offer a college credit set of courses that covers all the modules of NCCER. In these courses tube bending will be discussed and a local tube fitting rep will teach a quick course on tube bending after a demo.
Richard Tunstall I see. So i guess that tube bending and installation is usually learned hands on working as a helper? I've searched and not found an actual course teaching it.
