Weird. I didn't receive any notification for this video and It isn't listed on the main page either. I only find It after checking up the playlist "Silent Hill" by accident. I wonder if it is meant to be this way or something went wrong?
it's cool to see a video that actually makes note of so many of the real-world references that the game designers chose for the game world. when i last played the game, my head turned big time when i saw bruce willis's face in the darkness of the otherworld!
it's quite ironic that at the time games still weren't considered something mature and also so violent they "caused" violence, there were so many complaining about the lack of blood in SH1, it makes me wonder what would've been the reception if the game really had a greater focus on gore... these things are really interesting to think about years later

I miss Shadow of Destiny. I wish fervently that it'd be re-released without a single frame altered. That game was the best.

@@scopeadope Ooh, hard to explain. Let's call it a mystery by story, investigation and puzzle by gameplay. It's one of those games that's deeper than it appears. At the time I played it there were multiple people in my family also playing and we'd all straight up leave the house when the others were playing to prevent spoilers, we all wanted to figure it out ourselves. Haha! Still have my copy somewhere, too, just can't play anymore...

Amazing video series. Very informative.
But I have one curiosity, what do you trying to achieve when you convince us that "there's no Team Silent"? What difference does that make? There's no denial that first 4 entries was the best of SH franchise. I don't say the others are garbage, but there's definitely some things missing in the hands of western developers.
I don't try to make a negative criticism, as I said, very informative video series, we get to know every member up close. This is just a matter of curiosity.
It's something I've very passionate about, for a lot of reasons, but the short story is that it hurts both eastern and western developers.
I've seen 'Team Silent' devs on twitter being bothered to the point of begging people to stop interacting with them because of this 'please return to the glory days of team silent!!!' mentality. It reduces them to one function, and often ignores the fact that dozens of these people left Silent Hill willingly, never planning or desiring to return. It ignores all the other great work they've done, which I hope to share in this series.
And of course, the harassment campaigns against western devs like Tomm Hullett have had huge impacts on people's livelihoods and mental health. It comes from an unhealthy obsession with the past, and a lack of the full picture, which I hope to elucidate further in more videos to come.

I know what you're talking about, some fans are incredibly toxic towards western developers and obsessing about Japanese devs. I think Ito is the only one who embraced it to the fullest, but sometimes I stumble his some tweets that he's tired of this s*** already. The franchise is dead and Konami has no intention reviving it.

There is a Team Silent. Everyone who worked on the original four is a part of it. It wasn’t a name made up by the fans. It was at the end of one of the SH2 trailers shown at E3.

I had to go out so I didn’t have the time. This video showed up in my recommended which reminded me so I just commented here.
Ugh the Demon's Souls "remake." I paid $1300 for a PS5 when it dropped (gougers) so I could play it without waiting a year or two for PS5s to not have a stocking issue. It's the same game as the first one, which I'd already beaten and done about everything in. How can you call it a remake when it's the same game with nicer graphics? That would be a remaster. The only stuff they added was a new class or two and some new swords (there are hundreds of swords in Souls games) - they could have at least added some new worlds or bosses or SOMETHING new to justify the word remake.
These designers need to return to help revive the franchise. But its a dream I'm afraid.
