Been riding sports bike, my knees & wrists won't let do it any more. Not ready for a scooter! This is an amazing bike, don't knock it until you've had a go. I was completely sold on it after a 3 hour test ride. Had to have it.

Im pumped to start on DCT, keep it simple, no distracting worrying about clutch & gears, just focus on the roads & techniques,
once Ive done the time and built confidence, train manual, toss a M50 around, and build up to the Valkyrie.

I've only been riding for 6 years now, but I for one embrace the dual clutch technology. I've never owned an automatic vehicle, car or bike because the autos were just too dumb. But now... They're smarter, faster and better than manual transmissions. It's like F1 shifting on a bike, and though I haven't tried it yet, I plan to make this my next bike, and I believe that it will make riding more enjoyable because the rider will be able to focus more on riding, not gear selection and timing.

remember the cb400 and cb750 hondamatics...nice bikes with a sidecar.
fun in town and easy to use...Now this!!...great...now we need a 350cc 80hp like this.
    now that I would buy!

"sport riding without the hassle of changing gear" exactly.
& everyone who complained about this bike, just hating on auto trans, or just flat out couldnt afford it, made excuses
looks are subjective, but anyone with an honest observation can see that DCT is evolutionary for all riders.
since the haters complained so much, Honda dropped the prices in half, but refinement cut in half too :(. thanks haters

perfect bike. It has enough power, and the dct makes it easy to ride.......those idiots who keep talking about the manual shifting, probably listen their music on casette's and watching their movies on casette video players.......This bike is perfect, and thanx honda for creating it!

@plutonium9 It's for people who want to focus on the ride, and not worry about making the bike go.

Maybe this is for the rider with old broken wrists, unable to grip a clutch, or a broken ankle that finds it hard to bend for down/upshifts. Anything that helps is good. Then there is the lazy rider! thats me... might have me one of these one day!

I can understand why allot of riders want a proper manual gearbox in their bikes. Its the since of control. Also to many riders its a part of the fun of riding a motorcycle. However the average age of motorcycle riders in the US is going up. AKA getting older. The motorcycle industry needs to start being in new riders if there is to be a future for bikes. That right there is a big challenge since a huge majority of the younger generations have never been exposed to any kind of vehicle with a manual gearbox. This means no experience shifting gears. None at all. To older generations most of which grew up with manual gearboxes, the learning curve of riding a bike was not so steep. But to younger generations that saw nothing but automatic transmissions, that learning curve is very steep as they would have to learn how to shift gears in addition to learning how to handle a motorcycle. That is a big problem when to comes to enticing new riders into the world of motorcycling.
So motorcycle companies are going to have to add the option of going with a DCT or CVT or some other means of automatic or semi automatic transmission to new bikes. Taking the intimidation factor of dealing with a manual gearbox out of the equation will make motorcycles more attractive to younger buyers. Sure maybe to older riders, an automatic transmission would be seen as a wimpy way out. But automatic bikes are not ands should not be aimed solely to older riders. They must appeal to new riders to keep the motorcycle industry growing and thriving.
For me I want to be on a bike two years from now. Granted I'm riding a small 50 cc scooter, I find being on two wheels to be a blast and even zen like. I want more of that. But personally, manual transmissions stopped me from going with a full sized bike. But since Honda has started doing the DCT gearbox on some of their bikes, I feel that riding a motorcycle is within my reach. Maybe there is a since of manliness in shifting gears due to being in complete control of the bike. Maybe there is also a since of fun doing it oneself. But for me I'm not getting into motorcycles for shifting gears. I want in so I can enjoy the world around me and have fun cruising the open road.

im part of the younger demographic Honda is persuading to pick up bikes for the 1st time, lured by the same auto trans we learned in cars, but with the feel of open road and bad ass confidence that comes with riding a motorcycle.
DCT has sold me. Unfortunately, the older generation of bikers, who are afraid of change away from old manual, and tight with their money, complained about the pricing of Honda's flagship DCT bikes, forcing them to drop prices/quality.

GOINFINITI , the DSG is heavier than a conventional gearbox. In a road car, this weight is a negligible increase in the overall weight of the car, whereas on a bike an extra 20kgs (or whatever the system weighs) is a substantial amount for a bike that might weigh only 200kgs in the first place. Also, while I have no doubt that shifting gears with DSG is quicker, shifting on a bike manually is already pretty quick in the first place. On a car the process of shifting gears takes much longer; the gear stick has to typically travel further than the foot lever on a motorcycle.
So overall, the increase in weight and the only minor decrease in shift times would make all the difference.

I really like the DCT -it lets you concentrate on riding instead of shifting. But one thing that I REALLY CAN`T UNDERSTAND is why does the DCT have lower performance in acceleration and top speed. DCT provides continuos power while shifting and no interuption where you loose time - so how can this be? For example DSG units from VW make their cars better in acceleration than the same car with manual shifting. So can anybody answer me that?

I don't want to be the idiot that refuses to accept new technology but I find it very hard to believe that market research revealed that vfr customer wanted to give up traditional shifting for the added cost and weight this no doubt added to the bike. I know the VFR can be had with a normal clutch so is this meant to appeal to beginners?? No beginner should be on this bike. Maybe this was a study of tech that will eventually find its way to the Acura Honda line. Who knows.

But to be honest riding with clutch lever is more fun, why bother riding a comfort bike when you have a car
