Bells and Feast of San Vito - Church of the Immaculate Conception - San Vito Chietino (CH) ABRUZZO

- In this video I'm in San Vito Chietino, an Italian town in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo. Originally called only San Vito, in 1863 it adopted the addition of the adjective Chietino in the name, referring to the province to which it belongs. The town is one of the main seaside resorts of the Costa dei Trabocchi enjoying an open landscape on the Adriatic and on the stretch of coast between Ortona and Vasto, where some overflows are visible, from which this coast takes its name. Inland you can distinguish the Maiella, a massif located a few tens of kilometers from the town and, more in the distance, the Gran Sasso d'Italia.
The filming was carried out on 15 June 2015 on the occasion of the patronal feast of San Vito martyr.
The mother church of San Vito is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and San Vito Martire and is located in the historic centre, in Corso Matteotti, on a raised position with respect to the street front. The foundation dates back to the second half of the nineteenth century. The facade, dated 1970, in the late sixteenth century style is covered in white stone and is preceded by a staircase with a balustrade facing onto it. The architectural party with an order of paired and riveted pilasters on two levels, intermediate entablature, crowning triangular tympanum and volute connections on the wings. On the sides of the central portal with a broken curvilinear tympanum there are two side portals with architraves surmounted by gabled niches with statues. The two niches above the two side portals house the statues of San Vito and Pope John XXIII while the window opens in line with the main portal rectangular. The neoclassical interior has a basilica layout divided into 3 naves with a transept and apsidal choir. The arches are framed by giant paired Corinthian columns and by the entablature with a very projecting cornice. The church is covered with ribbed vaults on the central nave, on the lateral naves, on the arms of the transept and on the choir; dome on pendentives over the presbytery and half-basin in the apse. The dome is decorated with false coffers and the spandrels are painted with brightly colored figures. The external roof has a double sloping pitch with a tiled mantle. The vaults are decorated with subtle squares and delicate stucco decorations. In the church there are goldsmith works from the 15th century, including a chiseled silver cross and paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 2016 it was completely restored with interior and exterior painting.
The crenellated bell tower is located at the back of the church and is divided into several levels by string courses. On the first floor, opened by 4 large windows, are the bells, one on each side. They are electrified by momentum and equipped with an external firing pin. The main bell weighs 7 quintals and was recast by the Daciano Colbachini Foundry following the requisition of the sacred bronzes which affected Italy during the war. The 2 middle bells are most likely the work of the Pontifical Marinelli Foundry in Agnone while the smaller one is from the Mari Brothers Foundry.

@@gabrydimao0046 Non frequento molto quelle zone per la distanza a meno che non mi ci trova di passaggio. Qualche anno fa ho lavorato in Puglia nelle parti di Fasano e di Lecce quindi qualche giretto nei dintorni l'ho fatto.

E chissà mai se ci saranno delle Pietro Colbachini di Bassano in Abruzzo, fonderia che sto rivalutando molto ultimamente visti i capolavori di Don Bosco a Roma, Domegge di Cadore e soprattutto Matigge di Trevi!

San Vito Chietino come campane è messa molto bene a campane grazie a Dio e la maggiore Colbachini si lascia sicuramente apprezzare ☺

Quanto mi hanno fatto penare 'ste campane tempo fa.. ma sono molto belle.
Sono contento che ti piacciono. Mi ricordo che anche tu passasti da queste parti e ne vale davvero la pena soprattutto per il bel mare e la vista magnifica che si gode dal Belvedere Marconi sul mare e sulla montagna. Hai avuto problemi nel beccarle tutte a distesa o erano guaste? Io nel 2015 andai alla festa patronale perché un mio compagno di scuola di San Vito mi avvisò sul giorno preciso della festa ed ero quasi certo di beccarle tutte quante.
