jeff from jax florida usa lots of beach here, couldnt afford to buy a garrett pro or something like it so THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO EDUCATE US ON HOW TO BUILD ONE I REALLY THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART,VERY KIND OF YOU SIR
Best detecting and tutorials here ! Thx so much man!!
Frederick, thank you for sharing your technical knowledge, best regards from Argentina!
very nice job
Really appreciate the effort you have put into making this series of vids, can hardly wait to build it.
You go to great effort for us all, thank you.
+tobo26 Thankyou for the positive feedback
And I'm finally getting the answers to the questions right!
thanks for your knowledge and helping us that can't afford
+ali farrah thankyou and Careful they are easy to dammage
efrederick thanks for you help a frend from mexico your videos are very good
Excellent description has been revealed here ,for better understanding about the components which are required and rectifications of mistakes when occurred then and there while assembling the components on the circuit board with cautions, soldering transistors and capacitors ,battery attachment as well as making the shaft ,handle ,coil moulding with resin filling and so on okay thanks a lot, STILL I expected some more about...
Srinivasa char A V I am not an expert, and decoding to put on video is tricky
@Frederick Barnes: Goldfinders>> sorry mate but at 18:46 you told a well known porky pie regarding solder jointing! NO2 is the correct answer! regarding solder jointing NO1 is an incomplete solder and doesn't really require any spotting joint! NO2 is a domed solder joint this is the most secure and most less likely to cause any shorts and it also provides better current flow as there is a good amount of contact here. and NO3 is a failed or premature/miss-solder solder which requires a re-solder as this type of solder becomes brittle and breaks/cracks/fractures once solder cools and over time when current is passed through it and with atmospheric condition changes or carbonizing erroding etc but mainly when the solder initially cools and electrical current tries to flow through it, creating shorts or malfunction of components NO3 is a classic noob job and should always be avoided by DOMING* your solder joints. :) TAKE NOTE! :)
ps the reason why manufacturers solder at no3 ie a motherboard or radio for example is to simply save time and money hence malfunctioning products are a thing these days because of the lack of solder as it is usually at these points a product burns out/breaks down or just dies via shorting out. pps the next time you buy a product tht has soldered pcb take a spec n check the solder points i can almost guarantee at least 3 points on all products are of no3 which causes the problems here in :)
ppps no3 also acts like a jumper meaning if anything conductive gets within range of the point a short will always occur where as NO2 being domed solder pin point covered the dome acts as a housing shielding that jumper point and any excess current flowing through the dome is dissipated via heat which is far safer then NO1 and NO3 combined! :)
best tips for perfect solder joints is to fix the part into place curl the legs then spot the joint before removing the excess material this way your points are secure and there is more contact for current flow :)
thank you for your reply sir,,,
Love your vids please post more tks
Amazing job! I hope to learn soon, to made my first handmade one.
Thank You for share this with Us.
just so you know, its your videos that have inspired me to build one of these and start hunting beaches for bottle caps and numberplates :)
Hope you enjoy a challenge
Frederick Barnes yeah well the coil is built, and so is the mould, ive ordered the pcb and a friend of mine will solder it up, thankfully your instructions are pretty straight foward, im sure youll hear from me if i have any problems :) does it work on inland? or do you just use it for beaches?
Sam McPherson
Problems are plenty
i am not an expert but i will help where i can
Frederick Barnes
the surf pi works great in wet sand
thanks man
Your videos are great , very informative.
But...Must you quiz us on everything ?
No one is grading my work !
And would make it easier for you if you just told is what the answer was. You video would also be
A.... Shorter in length
B.... Better to watch
C.... Be easier to understand
D.... All of the above
Thanks for great videos,
Sincerely
Great video...clear concise and informative, and I like the look of your build too...But looking at the electronics has scared me off a bit...I think I'll try to find a pre made circuit, and then add it to something similar to your build. Good work though, and I'll def. be back to check out your other stuff!
1 get some pipe joiners tubing and filler etc
2 just stick a short piece of plastic pipe on the end of a crutch and have the handle arm rest and height adjustment already included ;-)
3 all of the above
you choose one
I know you use pvc for the elbow support but it looked like you added padding ? what kind is it? I am nearing completion of mine. I used a slightly different board from ebay. but it is still of the whites surf master, it has a couple extra knobs. thanks again for all your help.
Got, it, and interested in seeing if it will work.
Many tripods used for cameras might work well for the telescoping shaft itself. They are strong and lightweight, so they fit the bill nicely.
Great idea
i was so enjoyed with your videos,, so detailed,,,how to purchase that metal detector kit ? i'm from philippines and how much? thank you for all the videos,, i loved watching them repeatedly
+Antonio Empleo
Silverdog in England good basic kits but tricky to put together-- diwww.silverdog.co.uk/shop2/
At 19:36 there is a question with an incorrect answer... It the power wires touch each other like that, then you have a short circuit before the board, trough wich all the power flows trough, draining your battery fast, probably heating up the wire from the battery to the short(and even the battery if you leave it like that), but your board basically get's no power, so your parts are unpowered, not ovepowered or overloaded, so they should be safe and work well. However if you've got a short on your board, that could be potentially harmfull for your parts(also not in each case... that depends on where your short is).
RPBCACUEAIIBH After review i believe you are right.thanks i will make amendment in description
An inline fuse about 500mA will save the battery and a probable wire insulation melting, so saving a repair.
Are you a teacher? Anyhow excellent video, even me who has no clue about electronics got it ;)
sirspikey not s teacher
how can i get the shev or a pcb bord foto??? please
your PCB looks different than those square pcb's on silverdogs shop! Is your machine the Hammerhead or the Surf Pi?
i am not allowed to show you the completed board as it is not my design
Frederick Barnes sorry if i bother u but the question is "is your machine the Hammerhead or the Surf Pi?"
no
U mention silverdog's site!!!
Frederick Barnes
U show it in your video!
its so amazing can i have circuit for that Sir plsss
I would like to build this. How can I get a schematic, or even better a PCB for the control board? I have a couple of ideas for improvements to the circuit housing. Has RF interference been an issue?
the board is not my design.to give out .The board comes with pasts list on the board itself. see silverdog shop
they are tricky but
Hello .I want you PCB and schematic metal detector.
Link please
1 more question. can I apply a diode in the control box instead of in the coil ? if so attach it to coil wire or audio ?
+dean castello I think so, but keep in mind that it is tricky
what search frequency are you using ??? and whats your total current consumption from the batteries ???
Too complicated-video is complicated enough
Thanks for sharing tips
How i make that type finder
Pleas send me diagram then i try to make it
what frequency is the XTR ?
Frederick Thank you for your effort. is possible to obtain the image or link electronic schematic?
I tried and couldn't get one. It belongs to Anchor Electronics England
if I were to make 1 of these and ad a jack for a garret metal detector can I use their coils ?
+dean castello Too risky--These circuits dont need much to burn out- unless you know what you are doing.i would give it a try if i had a spare Garrett coil but.
what about the padding on the arm what did you use ?
+dean castello rubber from clarks
Hello could I ask please, which have you found to be more waterproof; Silicon sealer or Hot glue. Thank you.
Kenny444 Tourist Slicone is the better waterproofer by far
Thank you, I have very much enjoyed you video's, appreciated.
i am a novis and had a lot of trouble getting it to work
on the housing all the caps here are large, also it looks like your cap is part of a fighting I am having trouble finding what I need any help would be appreciated. thanks
+dean castello i have done the best i can with the video using local parts
just making the circuit work well is a tricky task
+Frederick Barnes I was jus wondering if you could be more specific about the housing cap. I see its what we would call 4 inch pvc and the bottom is a slip / glue on cap but I cant find a screw on top that big. also yours looks like its a glue on fitting with a cap. maybe I'm looking in the wrong department is this for drain pipe ?
have a look at how to diy one of the best metal detector circuits video
I can't make anything like this i wouldn't even try , so can any body recommend one to buy from the internet & how much will i have to pay for a good one ?
+artisansportsman
Any detector works well in dirt and sand. Second hand is good also. The expensive detectors work well in goldfield areas and salt water environments.
Frederick Barnes Thanks
how can i get the shev or a pcb bord foto
Where to buy the complete kit?
Too much work and expense to supply a complete kit.
How deep can it be detected? Does it detect all minerals or gold?
8 to 10 inches on coin size objects
Do you have a data sheet for detector device components 20 meters away from gold or blanks
No, the circuit it is not my design.
Not available any more
sir pls give me the circuit diagram of this metal detector, cos the attached picture here is not available anymore.

so the Goldfinder XTR is built with the Surf pi 1.2
The surf Pi 1.2 Will work with this coil but not optimal. The Barracuda will work with this coil quite well,- as i have checked. The Goldfinder XTR is a similar 12 Volt Pi system to the Barracuda. But they are a tricky build to get right the first time.I had a teck friend help me put the Goldfinder together.
I Would recommend a different coil design for the Surf Pi
And thanked all thanks to the Lord of the Rings, Mr Frederick
where can i buy the components ?
Look up silverdog on line..or kits but,- beware that they are a difficult project for beginners.
i got all my stuff to do the pi,, metal detector,,,, an the baracuda,, how maney battreys do they take?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH ,, john northcutt
John Northcutt 3 li ion rechargibles is best.- 0r 8 AA but energisers- run down in about 1 hour, so lithiun ion is the way to go. the circuit goes erratic when it goes down to 11.5 volts.
Thank you. . For your help
Heaps ,-all you need -but it does take time, patience and learning from mistakes
i need the circuit design . ???
+asif uddin Let me know if you get one.
???
i think the circuit design for the surf pi and the baracuda belongs to Anchor electronics, so you will have to ask them. i only show how these circuits may be used in your own detector.i do not have any rights on these designs.
how to create that cicuit
see how to diy one of the best--
Mr Frederick can I contact you to talk please
+ali farrah Sorry,- i am too busy on a major project.
hello sir
how are you
im sri lanka
i wont contact you
Hi AJith
i need gems detector, my country have gems
No can do.. eyes are the best detector
only gold can find this detector
All metal only
me so cascate e palle
Send me squematic
I don't have one as the rights are owned by Anchor electronics England i believer
Not mine to give away
