"My" Final verdict: without revealing any spoilers, Both versions are great but new version has a lot more depth and meaning. This is a true testimony to Sly 's honesty to film making.

I thought the new version blew the other out of the water, it felt like a more genuine Rocky film as the original was very montagey/stylistic it kind of lost what Rocky was about imo.

This is the sort of thing that was pushed aside in the original. The guilt Rocky feels for Apollo’s death. The unnecessary position Apollo put Rocky in and the guilt Rocky feels. The film is great entertainment but Apollo’s death needed more weight to it.

Same for me. Same age as you, definitely not ripped but I do go to the gym on a regular basis to maintain some muscle mass and get exercise. Saw Rocky IV and got a Joe Weider (?) Weight set for Xmas, would work out in my room playing my Rocky IV cassette 🙂

I love this version. They're all more human, and real, even the robotic Drago. Lots of emotion and nice subtle touches in there. Great movie! Sly di an amazing job with this cut

There's no training music gonna be in this sorry to say, that's the whole point of the dramatic training and the fights it's as real as it can be in any fight film

Man, Tony Burton does not get enough credit imo, he brings so much intensity to these films, as trainer to both Apollo and Rocky. RIP Sir, you are missed.

The flash back of Mickey telling Rocky to get up, fits perfectly in this movie, even though it was in Rocky 5.
Although….the scene in Rocky 5 is technically a flashback to like the Rocky 2 era. So it could be used.

He’s never facing the camera because he looks like 1990 Sly rather than 1979 Sly.

This is crazy. Apparently, Sly wanted the movie to be 120 minutes long, but the studio made him cut like 30 minutes of footage.
I wonder if MGM will release John Avildsen's cut of Rocky 5. It exists on DVD but it's rare to get.
I also wonder if Stallone will convince Warner Bros to release the 2 hours cut of Cobra, which got an X rating !

I love Cobra, would love to see an alternate version. I love the Rocky series but can't stand Rocky V. I would definitely check out a director's cut though, it would have to be an improvement.

Not sure that happened.. Rocky was such a home run for MGM at that point, I would think they pretty much let Sly turn in his cut of it.. Maybe Sly just all these years later felt inspired to give Rocky 4 a new look and feel.. Just my take..

The trailer music is new: somewhere between Di Cola & Conti. It's more of the classic Rocky themes, but in synth. I'm guessing that's what will be in the movie

I've loved this movie since 1985, and I'm sure I will love this version of it. The biggest smile for me was brought by more speech from Ivan Drago. Particularly the line: "I did not come here to lose." I'm very glad that in this rendition, Ivan speaks more for himself (appears to), versus letting Ludmilla Vobet-Drago do his talking for him.

Why am I so excited like it’s a new rocky movie coming out. Man I got chills watching it, it set the standard for having courage, standing up and not being scared to fail but to keep pushing for greatness. This movie sets the standards for self worth.

Seeing this, knowing how it ends, knowing that there's just much that your can tinker and redo 36 years later, I am in awe to Stallone with tears in my eyes.
I wanted love Creed but it's just a cinematic shadow of Rocky and this trailers shows so well why.

What a treat to have this. I went with my family to see this in ‘85. I was just a wee lad 4 years old. As fans, we’ve always known this was a special movie, for anyone into working out, sports, or the will to fight for something when everything is against you. Nothing touches this. And make no mistake this is a statement for the silent majority of this country who aren’t happy with the current state of things.
I grew up in this era.. As an Italian myself, Rocky in many ways molded me into the man I became. Heart, drive, desire, and perseverance are all qualities I live by, and this trailer just got me fkn pumped! Rocky IV has always been my fave and I can't wait to see what Sly did with it. Have a feeling it'll be even better than the original. 1 more round! 👊🏻

That was likely just for the trailer, the music will be pretty much the same. Stallone did say there is new music included as well though.

Simply an amazing cut of this film, the edits and additions bring out more of the human side of the film and characters, and still with the absolutely classic driving and training montages with pure 80s music.... plus THE fight! I loved it! This is the best version of the film, and I think the best Rocky film period. Will stand the test of time. Sly is a legend and poured his heart and soul into this and it shows. Masterpiece.
