    Great video! Using an me70 with my SV130 at the moment. Using it for loops and sometimes going for max reverb, some fuzz and a phaser in shoegaze/ambient tracks. sounds great. you can play with basic chords and fuzz to get some real dissonant sounds. pitch shift for a bar and eventually you'll get some real gut wrenching crunch! Going to experiment with a big muff today.

    Thanks, Electric Violin Shop & Christian Howes! I appreciate the insight. I was watching this video with my 8 year old daughter and her eyes popped when you kicked in the effects pedal.
    I have a fender ev-1 but haven't had an opportunity to really find out its capabilities. I'm not sure where to start with effects pedals. I'm certain the pedal you have with wah-wah, delay, reverb, etc. runs a pretty penny. Sorry for the delayed response. If you like the YEV visually then you should definitely go with it. It sounds really amazing. The SV-130 is a good multi-use practice/performance instrument, but it is better for silent practice than it is on stage or in the studio. YEV sounds perfect for you, and you can always practice through headphones using a multi FX or other headphone amp, which you surely know as a guitarist!

      Electric Violin Shop Hello, I have a metallic Yamaha SV-130, and I love it!! But, I find that the shoulder rest is very uncomfortable and I was wondering if you noticed how there was a little curve part on the violin in the video right next to the chin rest. I have all of the receipts and everything but I bought my violin around Christmas. Is there a way I can make a little curve like that to put in my own shoulder rest, or can I return my violin for a violin that has the little curve so I can put a normal shoulder rest onto it?

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  Před 7 lety

      Nathan Daniel -- Christian Howes plays an SV-250 in the video, which does accommodate any standard shoulder rest. The SV-130 won't accommodate a regular shoulder rest. Some players who don't like the custom 3/4 Kun rest that is included use a foam pad with a rubber band instead. Don't hesitate to contact the shop at info@electricviolinshop.com or call 919-806-3311 Monday - Friday for assistance.

    • @electricviolinshopaccount2045
      @electricviolinshopaccount2045 Před 4 lety +1

      Dimitri, If you have a pickup on your acoustic violin you can achieve most of the same sounds. Actually, you can get ALL of these sounds, but when you use an acoustic instrument with a pickup to use distortion or overdrive, it can be very difficult to prevent feedback. It's possible, and there are electric violinist who do use high-gain effects with their electro-acoustic instruments, but be prepared to spend some extra time at first, getting the hang of where you need to be relative to your amp or monitor, gain staging, using a notch filter or phase inverter to control feedback, etc. If you already have an electric violin, then it's usually easier and more effective to use a pure electric (rather than an acoustic with a pickup) if you're going to be using a lot of effects for your performance.

    About the most fun device you can use with an electric violin is an envelope follower, such as an EHX Q Tron, which are also known as auto wahs. These boxes are triggered when used by an electric guitarist by pick attack. When used by an electric violinist, you trigger the effect with bow pressure. This is one guitar box that actually works BETTER with an electric violin, IMHO, and you can get an EHX Mini Q Tron for under 100 bucks new or about 50 bucks used on E Bay.

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  Před 9 lety +1

      Your bridge shouldn't affect tone much, but you should definitely upgrade strings from what came with the violin, if you haven't already. Also, play with the EQ settings on the violin. Sometimes toning down the treble and boosting the bass can improve your sound on such a violin. If you're ever looking to upgrade, call us at 866-900-8400 or visit our website, electricviolinshop.com

      Rosa Maria Segura The K&K HotSpot may not be a huge upgrade over what's already on the violin. Start with really good strings ($30-60), consider investing in a preamp (ART TubeMP is only $49) and experiment with tone settings on the violin, preamp, effects and amp.

      Terezka Lutzbauerova hi, I bought new and better strings, and it is now better then with the old strings, but, if I was you, I'd try to buy another violin, if you want an electric violin, buy Yamaha Sv-130, I think it is the best electric violin, but if you don't care if it is electric or not, buy an acoustic one, perhaps Eagle VK- 644, it is not very expensive and it is good, I was in doubt between Vk644 and Stagg EVN, I went with Stagg EVN, and I regretted.. I should have bought Vk644... Stagg is a good violin, but when I plug it in my amplifier, the sound is not good, when I plug it in a effect pedal, it is better, but not what I expected...

    Is this applicable for acoustic violin?

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  Před 5 lety

      You can use effects with an acoustic violin, but you must have some way of getting your violin sound into an electrical signal, i.e. a pickup. Our most popular violin pickup is called the Kremona and is available here: www.electricviolinshop.com/kremona-violin-pickup-with-1-4-carpenter-jack.html
      You can attach the pickup to the violin bridge and use an instrument cable to connect to an effects pedal or multi-effects processor (like the one seen in the video). You'll also need an amplifier to hear the effects, or some multi-FX pedals have USB which would allow you to record to your computer.

    • @electricviolinshopaccount2045
      @electricviolinshopaccount2045 Před 4 lety +1

      @@marcosleiteviolinista It depends on your definition of "wireless". You have to have a cable coming out of the violin going to the control box. But you can go wireless from the control box, meaning that you won't have a cable going to the floor.

      Can i connect my wireless transmitter directly to this violin (without the control box)? My idea would be to connect the violin to the wireless transmitter and at the base of the receiver (away from me) to connect a preamp or the control box.
      My wireless transmitter is a Shure GLXD 16 (pedal model)
      Thank you a lot for the help! (Sorry by my english, i'm from Brazil)

    • @electricviolinshopaccount2045
      @electricviolinshopaccount2045 Před 4 lety +1

      @@marcosleiteviolinista No, you cannot connect the wireless transmitter directly to the violin. You have to run from the violin to the control box with the included 1/8" TRS mini cable, then you can plug your wireless transmitter into the 1/4" mono output on the control box. That's the best that it gets with the SV-250/255, for now.

      @DVZM. Před 7 lety +2

      Pratim Banerjee
      1. Please don't even think about using this "strings" that come with those cheap instruments you can buy online. They will tear if you just look at them.
      2. Of course D'addario Strings are better than the useless stuff that comes with the violin. But the strings alone don't have a huge impact.
      I would suggest you to buy a good violin like yamaha or viper. An instrument from cecilio or yinfente may have:
      • really, really bad pickups and preamps with a lot of noise- with this technology (you can order the exact same that they use for only 10$ at aliexpress....) you wont be able to create a great sound.
      • bad tuning pegs and even worse fine tuner that you will have to replace
      • sometimes curved fingerboarda which leads the violin to a rasping sound

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  Před 7 lety +1

      You can put better strings on a Cecilio and it'll improve the playability a little. But it'll be like putting good tires on a really cheap car. Yes, it'll make it handle better, but it's not going to turn it into a Porsche.
      We certainly understand budgetary constraints. If you can't afford a Yamaha, then a Cecilio is probably better than nothing. But just understand that there's a reason that the Yamahas cost more. They're better instruments. And you can spend money to try to make the cheaper violin sound and play better, but as you're spending that money, realize that you're eventually going to have almost as much money in the cheaper violin than you would have had in the Yamaha.
