Snipers in Destiny 2 can be incredibly powerful in the hands of a great player. But how do you develop the ability to consistently hit your shots? In this video I interview my friend ShadowDestiny who is one of the best PvP snipers I know in Destiny. Are most of the gameplay clips from after BL dropped and if so how do you feel about the sniper changes? I’ve always been a sniper in every fps game I’ve ever played and I’m having a really hard time sniping this season compared to any other time.
@@misfitsfiend12 most of the gameplay is from before bl. I feel like the sniper changes are definitely noticeable although not entirely devastating

I believe my issue is consistency. Some days I’m like Hawkeye and then other days I can’t hit a shot to save my damn life. I learned a bunch from watching players like TV. I also have trouble sniping at different axis. For example sniping from low to high ground and vice versa.
Thank you for these detailed videos. It helps to reinforce concepts you have shared in the past. I also learn new things like shifting my weapon mods to experiment with other mods. I crutch on targeting mods! Gonna try Icarus and backup. Thanks!

I played against Shadow about 6-8 months ago through a random LFG lobby. I didn't know him at the time only recently. I thought he was cheating but now I realize he's just really good!

Great interview! I wish that you guys would have spent more time on Primary weapons to complement Sniper Rifles and what situations cause you to bring out one Primary over another - maybe next time!
Thanks Gents, that was a great video. I did a fair bit of sniping in D1 with 1000 Yard Stare, Longbow Synthesis and LDR-5001but D2 has been hand cannons and shotguns. I am grinding for the Deadeye seal (on controller) and doing all the wrong things you pointed out (hard-scoping, slow peaking, etc) but getting better. Rocking Adored with Snapshot and Killing Wind. Good tip on flinch and ammo mods and I think my sensitivity settings on the controller need adjusting to get the quick movement you get.
I'm at a 100k kills RN, and all I used was shotgun. I started to take interest in snipers and this video was very helpful to get me started, very Informative and easy to understand.
As a sniper main on PS4, I enjoyed this.

What are your thoughts on traction? I know that it's only supposed to effect turn radius while sprinting but I feel like adding it and taking it away really changes the feel and muscle memory for the sniper. Just looking for the most consistent settup on a low sense.
Also can you talk about what you're doing with dragons shadow at all? I find that once wraithmetal mail procs it's like playing on a much higher sens

I consider myself to be decent, I have flawless and about to have unbroken... but I am 5 min into this and I have already picked a lot of useful things out of this, Keep it up!
I really feel like I don't appreciate this collab of extremely accurate and professionally legitimate opinions on this extremely frustrating and difficult topic of controller sniping in destiny enough. I literally did just the first tip of knowing where the cross hair is going to be when you aim down sights at a head coming around the corner (Tip of the carrot that comes up when you sprint) and I drastically improved my accuracy and ability to hit headshots and one of the 3 games I was playing dropped a 6.0 kd in 3v3's (After some practice and repetition/adjustment to my understanding)
You do a very good job with these videos, i think it would be beneficial having a pvp novice to play devil’s advocate sometimes. There are certain things that you point out that work well as rule of thumb but are pretty situational . The “devil’s advocate” could help point out those situations and help us get some more clarification. You guys are so good sometimes you may overlook a minor detail that the less skilled need to really understand and drive home your point.. just food for thought . Love your content!

I noticed he plays on a lower sense too which is vital when sniping. Helps so much. I get picked on for not running 10 sense when sniping but I do with a shotty but I end up beating the people who have a higher sense. Something about having a lower sense adds some sort of aim ease in.
Those are some insane skills my guy.

Slicing the pie is actually a real world application that military and Swat teams use. I took a lowlight pistol course and it actually does work. The further off from cover you are, the sooner you will be able to see your target who is just off cover when they can’t see you if they are right up on the edge of cover. It is real. It works IRL and in game

Love that this vid didn't like discourage controller players or anything for having the aim assist advantage. The only way I could ever see it being a problem is with Arbalest. Also love that it's tips for both platforms instead of being geared towards one because I'm gonna try pc in a few days

I'd say the video helped a lot but I'm not lying when I say this... I literally just plugged in a controller and got better almost instantly. Helped me get solo flawless in trials and got called a hacker in comp. Thank you for the guide.
I am a HORRIBLE sniper. This video definitely helped. I had no idea about peaking from the left advantages and never tried using double sniper targeting mods. I've been using Citan Ramparts for my "Sniper training wheels" - nice to have a barrier to shoot through w/ more time & protection to aim. However, it totally gives away your position if you're trying to sneak around the perimeter of the map and snipe. And if the enemy guardian knows the barrier is from Citan exotic they disengage ...especially when they see a sniper scope reflection. However, a lot still duel right on that center line!

LISTEN I JUST WANNA SAY: I cannot possibly explain, how overwhelmingly helpful this was, i went from missing 2/3 of my shots and only landing headshots, 50% of the 2/3, to utterly stomping. Thank you, you are saints.

That’s crazy at 14:31 when you talk about how raw aim can only take you so far, I was struggling to climb solo comp ranks last week with sniping, and I tried a game on bannerfall and just focused on getting good angles and got 28 kills. Positioning is more important than raw aim!
Another good vid well done, before I started using aerial movement more, I use to run radar tuner, and it did help but only very slightly not worth it over icarus now I move more, but I always run a radar booster on my heavy although it doesn’t boost it much I find it gives that bit of information sooner and helps makes decisions easier and has helped clutch some 1v1s in comp especially when the capture zone comes into play, break radar just enough but you still have them on yours, especially pairs well with top tree nightstalker, learn where they are, smoke the opposite direction then push invis.

I only recently started realizing how crazy of snipes I can pull off just because I use a controller. I went from, 2 months ago, not too good at sniping, to now, where I win 90% of engagements when I have a sniper out. It's kinda amazing. I'm still gonna switch to MnK.
After doing all the adored quests I have a newfound respect for snipers. I doubt I’ll take one over a fusion rifle or grenade launcher because those suit me better but Its not as hard as I once thought

27:15 you mention dodge 180’s not being available for warlocks or Titans. But you can use icarus dash on top tree to essentially perform the same effect 😁

Being a religious cod sniper and just playing cod the guns in your right hand to the right of your body so if you peaking right most of your guns blocked by whatever your cover is where as if you peak left you have a clearer view and advantage I'm pretty sure it's just called the right hand peak

Can’t wait to watch this. This is the first season I’ve really started sniping and I’m enjoying it a lot. Previously all the QuickDraw and low zoom scopes made it really difficult to compete, now I feel like I can make a mistake, reposition and try again.

Peak shooting with a sniper is also really strong l. What I mean is if you hit a body shot in your near cover peek again for the body shot it’s really good
Have always been a big fan of sniping in the destiny franchise but something feels off this season. Missing easy shots and can't find a sniper I like to use. Feels bad, going to try all of this out in a private game, thanks for the video 🙂.

Holy hell I learned so much I’m awful at sniping and I have cloudstrike but can’t use it at all!
It really helps to use that with Ophidian Aspects on warlock or The Dragon’s Shadow on hunter to improve handling and scope in faster

The ability to get out of dodge in the blink of an eye is why I think hunter, top tree dawn, and to a degree behemoth are so great for sniping.

Patty, just a question/potential video suggestion. Due to the pandemic I spent a lot more time in destiny and improved exponentially in pvp. I recently started a new job and I have a lot less time and I'm seeing my skills decline already. Any tips for how to keep improving in destiny pvp on a time budget? Thanks for the awesome content as usual!

@@PattycakesGaming i agree as i spent alot of time against my friend who at one point i was able to snipe people in shotgun range away.
Now I know character classes don't play a big role in aim/how you play with snipers. BUT. In the video, it was either you or Shadow, you said something about staying close to cover so that you can get back if you miss. What would you say the best character class would be for a situation like that? You have the super long stasis slide for Titans, dodge, and/or Bakris teleport on Hunters, and Icarus dash on Warlocks.
Until they add a sensitivity slider for snipers, I don't think I can ever get used to them since I snipe in other games at a different sense.
@Corey Thomas There are literally 0 professional players who do this in any game ever for a reason. Pick a DPI and stick to it...

I've played against shadow a lot and can confirm he's an insane sniper. the controller definitely helps sniper accuracy in destiny 2 a lot though you probably won't have that amount of accuracy on M&K unless your practice your tracking on a aim trainer.

I also have a very important question. In my attempt try to be better at aiming in any sense with a sniper or primary which takes me forever to get a handle on in my 1v1s, I'm getting hit while I'm busy ALOT by the second or 3rd guy either during or right after the 1v1 and I genuinely don't know what to do about it or how to deal with it in any way or with any sense of certainty. How do you solve this problem please?

that's actually a great example of something we discussed in this video! Destiny's camera angle actually allows you to shoot through the very left edge of titan barricades. Go try it out :)
