- I'm back! I am working on a Monster Modelworks yard office kit, so you get to see how I am doing! Yeah, mistakes were made- but I am having fun. This is Part One of a Two part video- a natural stopping point as I am waiting for a few things to come in.
For those so inclined, you can still get Monster Modelworks goodies online at the following:
Larkspur Laser Art

Part Two will be posted once I get my details and finish the building.
Thanks for watching!
Remain calm and babble on. As usual, 4.0 outstanding work.

Glad your feeling better and Back in the Saddle best you can Great Bldg tips
Nice job Steve 👍🏻🇬🇬
Very cool build Rob. Yep, mortar lines, tried a lot, think the oil paint wash is the best method until now. Unless a smudgy wall is needed. Very interesting how you did the 2nd floor notching and bracing. Will be cool to see how you super detail the office. Curious for your next episode. Cheerio
WOW dont know I missed part 1 but have to watch this first
Glad to see your work!
Wow! We are spoiled two videos in close succession. Can't wait for part two.
Last night my friend came over and we had a look at the layout we are building into a coffee table.
It will be in N scale and two layers.
At the moment it is mocked up on 60mm insulation polystyrene (the little balls)
We have the 50mm extruded stuff fir the eventual layout however as the basic track plan is all over the place trying to get many elements to fit we got some cheap stuff for now.
I have been involved with HO on and off for the last 30 years and often find myself still thinking in HO size.
We pulled the merchants row kits 1,2and 3 out of the box. It becomes apparent very fast how much more room you have working in N scale.
One thing I do miss is the detail that you can have with HO. Even more sickening when you look at O or proto48.
I can't wait to see your finished product. You always seem so critical of yourself but produce some amazing models.
Rob, things are looking good. I kind of like what you did with the mortar but that's just me. I use the Robert's Mortar 90-95% of the time and I obviously like it. However, you will need to use it in a reasonable amount of time or it dries out.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO
To my eye that partly mortared back wall looks fine. Nice and grubby! 😀 If you're not happy with it, why not try dry brushing the brick, and leave the mortar that's already there? As it won't be seen, you can always do it again (and again, and again!!!). Cheers
As for mortar on brick you need to clear coat the brick with dull coat after painting then you take some drywall compound and some water to lightly thin it and apply it to the brick
Looking really good so far. Now as for the back that you think you messed up, well I think looks pretty good. I see brickwork like that in the UK often maybe to white as you say but a wash will tone that down nicely.
Nice Rob, that's going to look sharp on the layout when it's finished. Do any of the 3d printers make switch stands that you would have found in a yard tower or interchange tower back in the day? I looked but couldn't find any that do. Also not many images...1 out 15, the rest were more modern versions. Anyway, glad to have you back my friend.
nice !
Looking good, Stephen!!! You can try using Joint Compound for the mortar. I have used it on a weathered Passenger station and looks great!!!
Well done sir! This is inspirational.
Hope your doing better
The yard office is looking good Rob! If ya need some help with painting figures I would be happy to help you.
Hi! I am great fan of your layout! I just can't stop loving it! However, I just have a small suggestion/issue. Why don't you show the actual process of all your 'build-videos'? They would be awesome and great! Just 'position' the camera on tripod stand and carry on with your build process. Just the way 'Everard junction' does! I am super-confident that if you showcase your build-videos, the viewers would be awestruck! The reason is, your finished products are hyper-realistic and pin-point to the scale! Cheers!!!!
You are correct- that is something I have rarely done. I just forget to do that. Plus will take a lot more editing. All doable, I'm just lazy...
Hi Steve where did you get the strip lighting and can you it then to length?
Rob what's up? This video was under 20 minutes. Hope you are well!!
