Sedykh together with Sergey Litvinov we’re the two greatest hammer throwers to ever grace this sport. The only two throwers to ever surpassed the 86m mark. Thank you for the memories. RIP both.
What a great competition. Sedykh was just showing off on that last throw, almost matching his world record from, like, 20 minutes earlier. Incredible technique, getting that power off of three spins instead of four.
I was a 2 time All-American in Hammer and |I had the great honor of watching Sedykh throw at some practices back in the day. As a hammer thrower, I was in awe of him and his flawless technique. I always wished I could rise to a level that was close to his, but it was not to be. He was and always will be, my idol in the hammer world.
@@TheDrewpdog The hammer throw is not about being the strongest; you need enough strength to control the speed and propel the hammer, yes, but the majority of it is technique. And Sedykh had flawless technique.
I never tire of watching this. Ever. I used the cybergenics video of Sedykh to teach myself to throw in college at a small school. Ended up all american and still have school record from 1991, altho don't ask how far cause it wasn't a world beater. Still proud of it. Great memories. Also, this reminded me he was from Ukraine. He's my all-time hero of any sport.
I have watched this video more than 100x, and it never gets old. That WR throw makes the left foot look like he’s moon walking like Michael Jackson. RIP GOAT
Maybe never. Due to the Soviet sports juggernaut, he was basically a professional hammer thrower, and could devote all his time to it. Even a lot of world class throwers today need a regular day job.
he has the farthest throw in history and a nice guy too. I remember being introduced to him by my Dad, Harold Connolly, the greatest hammer thrower who ever lived! Have a nice day. Mark Connolly
Thank You John Coleman. I'm half Irish and glad to hear I count! Mom was from Czechoslovakia and Dad from Boston, Massachusetts. They met (and incidentally both struck Gold) at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.
Incredible series of throws. And serious stupidity on those photographers- if his hammer had broken (which does occur) there would have been a swath of fatalities. You'd never see that allowed today!!
Those photographers were insane. If of the throwers had let go prematurely, it would have been like a cannon ball rocketing through about 10 photographers. Instant death.
Wow!!the speed and technique is amazing. It must take years of practice to get anywhere near this level 👍.After all these years this record still stands ,it just shows that as humans it is impossible to physically throw further ,same in the javelin and discus, these records could never be broken!!The only reason the 100 m was smashed was because Bolt was almost a freak of nature with his massive stride etc.We need a Hulk type figurd to smash these long-standing records!!!
"After we had injected his sample into our Hewlett-Packard machine, an alarm sounded and it became so contaminated with stanozolol metabolites that the next few samples spat out false positives even when we knew there were no steroids present . . . we called this the Sedykh effect."
Yeah the 86,68 throw looks alot more perfect than the previous throw, but I assume, as you said, that when you throw a world record your body will begin to slow down and get exhausted :P
I didn't mean specifically his age, I meant generally "your age is a bit of a problem" as in "anybodys age is a bit of a problem, if you are too old when you start". Sorry, a bit indistinct statement.
It's amazing what performance enhancing drugs can do for you. I refuse to believe this is a clean record no one has come close really since. With his HGH ball headed ass
Watching this clip after the Beijing throws, just makes me wanna cry... not only are they in a league of their own in terms of length, but also in terms of consistency. Great video!
mm no. it was basically down the middle.. the only issue in the throw was that his double support push was rushed on the second turn. sedykh is the one who says this.
83.94-85.28-85.46-86.74-86.68-86.62
What an incredible series of throws
Wr only 86.74m after 36 years !

Rest in peace Sedyhk
You are the greatest hammer thrower ever.
Just watched some recent competitions, they don't have such flawless technique. This is incredible
THE BEAST IS COMIN!
Ye
Maybe if he was a bit more hydrated
This is the priceless hammer throw video! Exellent job! Nobody has such tehnique like Yuri and Sergei!
Super commentary by Stuart Storey and Ron Pickering

What a sick series of throws,an average of 85m,todays throwers barely throw 83m
+evilTaker90V2 harder to get away with taking drugs these days.
+TheDrewpdog got eem
also you need to watch his technique though, it's flawless
@@TheDrewpdog Hasn't been replicated in the following years although drugs were still prevalent 🤷🏻♂️

Had to watch this again today (for what seems like the 3,000th time). RIP.

This world record will not be broken for atleast another 25 years. Take my word!
Next 50 years

Greetings from Ireland my fellow Irishman.
🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸
Thank You John Coleman. I'm half Irish and glad to hear I count! Mom was from Czechoslovakia and Dad from Boston, Massachusetts. They met (and incidentally both struck Gold) at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.
sedykh said it was his favorite throw ever and that the fact it was 6cm shorter meant nothing.. to him, it was exactly the same..
as a former Weightlifter i always had great admiration and respect for all this athletes...but Sedikh was out of this galaxy..doped or not...
Nah he's doped Koji is the best hammer thrower to me cuz he was clean
@@aaronaustin9814 Yeah my grandma also is best thrower cuz shes not doped.

He has the right number on his shirt for doing this.
Ich glaube,so eine Serie kriegt keiner mehr hin.Unfassbar!
Whos here from eddie hall 😂
Lmaoooo yo! 😂😂💪🏻
Ehhhh yup hahahaha me too
🤣 yeah straight here from Eddie.
😂😂😂😂Yup
Me too 😂
Is impressive how he was improving his mark in every throw

Litvinov at 85.75m
love the commentator really professional
I'd give anything to have been there to see it with my own eyes.
He was an absolute machine!!!
I was there this day.....jaw dropping performance
incredibile!!! thanks for the video :)

the record stands because of modern day drug testing. all these guys back then were using anabolic steroid drugs
R.I.P. Champion
Beautiful technician. And the Pommie commentary is almost as brilliant.
I remember watching this live, much more interesting than track events.
I was 6 when this flexing of titans was going on...unreal
Would have been good to see the last throw on here because it was another classic-86.62, again just short of his own WR. Best hammer competition ever.
Must've ran out of VHS tape.
Ah yes, a fellow Fury Warrior. A man of culture.
great video!!! yuri with an 86.74 and an 86.68 back to back, simply amazing
RIP Youri
R.I.P Juri
@MrHav1k yes... Sedkyh told me that he tried 4 turns but it was just as far as when he did 3.. more consistent with 3
The top guys today could use with cutting some weight and focusing on speed and technique. Sedykh is so fast and precise.
Qué fortaleza física!! Tremendos!

Love the 80s
sedykh's shorts still make me laugh :D
@turb05 I agree, but it is also a testament to how freakin good these guys were.
Previous 86.66m
Who’s here after watching Eddie hall 😂
That looks so fun spinning in a circle xD
You can tell he's at home in the hammer circle when he even sweeps it clean
this would literally be perfect with that shooting star song he spins so fast
Indeed:) And then you find out we're talking about almost 30 years ago!
And still the world record...35 years and counting
@jmm121884 did youri have any sponsors like adidas

Yes Iam. but I see it just the attemps with no sound its another feeling to see it with sound :)
craazy men
I would like to know that too. Why they just throw the hammer just 80m or maybe 82 m?
It's amazing what performance enhancing drugs can do for you. I refuse to believe this is a clean record no one has come close really since. With his HGH ball headed ass
Hahaha I love this!!
nice to see it was off three turns... Means I could still Become a good hammer thrower if I do 3 turns and not caring to do 4.
@ColonelVagner It was 86.62.
how do they know when and how to let go
What a cannon
Watching this clip after the Beijing throws, just makes me wanna cry... not only are they in a league of their own in terms of length, but also in terms of consistency. Great video!
Yuri, the best hammer thrower in the world!!!
A yard is 0.91 meter, so it's about 9 cm shorter.
A yard is exactly 3 feet
Hahahaha....er war wie eine Apoteke!! Von kopf bis fuss --doping!!
Doesn't anyone know what the name of the commentator is? Thanks.
I was wondering the same thing, so I did some research and think it might be David Coleman.
The late great Ron Pickering.
Ikr he was awesome so sad to find out he's dead :(
mm no. it was basically down the middle.. the only issue in the throw was that his double support push was rushed on the second turn. sedykh is the one who says this.
He spun OVER 9000 TIMES~!!
Yeah, pretty big! 80,55 when he was 20 :P
I am big fan of sir yuri sedykh because absolutely I am hammer thrower
I dont know... make the hammer lighter?
holy shit :0
a real porche :)
