Some countries have bachelor's degree of only 3 years? Does this work, or it needs to be a 4 year bachelor's degree like in the US? Thanks.

It does not necessarily have to be a 4-year bachelors degree. However, the challenge arises in how such a degree will be assessed substantively. Let me explain:
As a first step, you will submit your diploma, transcripts, course syllabus, and other supporting information to the University of Panama for an initial assessment. The University of Panama will process any degree we submit and issue their report, which compares the degree against a similar type of program that could be available in Panama.
Once the University of Panama issues their report, we then submit that report to the Immigration Office to be considered for the residency application under the Foreign Professional Visa.
The University of Panama will process any degree we submit and issue their report. But if they determine that the degree presented is not up to the standards of a comparitive degree in Panama, then the report they issue will not be sufficient to qualify for the Foreign Professional Visa. Actually, in some cases, the University of Panama could even recommend that the applicant take additional courses to supplement their foreign degree and to bring it up to the standards to be validated in Panama.

@@theindependentlawyer Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. Looks like this is a more difficult and contrived process. I have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engg, Masters in Computer Science/Software Engineering. I understand these wouldn't qualify. Wife has a 3 year Bachelors in Math, Masters in Computer science - Of all of these, I thought only a Bachelors in Math would qualify - hence asked for further clarification.
