That’s not historically correct, early heads of the church conveniently changed the dates of a particular birthday, in a particular story, to be more important to the Jews as they were the main targets for conversion, Dec 25th was already an important date to the Jews before they heard of Jesus, just like the pilgrims never had turkey and stuffing on the “first” thanksgiving, that baseless assertion was added into the tradition later, but it all makes people happy and that’s all I care about

You didn't have to wait for a monitor to turn on, or system's to turn back up, or anything crashing, no hacking concerns (unless your chain smoking mom was coughing up a lung!) there were caroller's at your front door all happy (no fear of them robbing you) and everyone had those good old fashioned Christmas lights on with multi-coloured fat bulbs that the newspaper kid would steal to pop one later with his friends! It wasn't as materialistic, and there stronger ethics and manners back than!!! Ahh! Yes! We weren't warn and told to only say Season's Greetings back than. It was plain and simple, with true warmth and meaning of 'Merry Christmas' and 'Godbless' Morals! What are those again?😔

Exactly. Just look at how many of these lovely commercials wish people a happy holiday. These days, if you try doing that, you'll get yelled at by taking the Christ out of Christmas or how being PC is an act of war on Christmas. Heck, you can't even spell it Xmas without someone being offended. Christmas is still a happy holiday, and X is a cross, the Greek letter Christos, but I'm flat out done with defending myself to these people. I no longer wish anyone a happy holiday. It's better to be a Scrooge than to deal with people in these modern times. Bah humbug!

Christian themed commercials were not snubbed.

Junk food and sugar laden treats were heavily promoted using children as spokespersons.

@@bonniebrown6960 I know what you mean. Since my grandparents and parents passed away, nobody in the family gets together. Younger generations just communicate via social media and I don't think they place as much value on the family gatherings. I sure do miss those days, I had 12 brothers and sisters, 10 now because we lost two siblings. Everyone is scattered everywhere now. I would love to have just one more Christmas from the 60s/70s when we were kids, it was such a great time!

@@Robinsnest219 I just attended a funeral where much of the family didn't come and learned that some cousins have had kids and I didn't know since I don't have a Facebook. We used to get together several times a year long ago and now we've only had one reunion in probably 10 years. There is also a lot of estrangement going on in families I've noticed, even my own. Times are different for sure.

Bittersweet watching these. I know the 60s, 70s, and 80s had their own share of problems, but it just seemed like there was still a civility and innocence in the general population. The 24/7 news cycle has really made this a less enjoyable world to be in.

I think you are 100% correct. As hard as it is, I keep myself away from the "news you need to know" bs mentality. People haven't changed much, but the anxiety we get bombarded with constantly with media is something. And if you are like me (don't watch news), you get the label of 'burying your head in the sand' from some folks. In the end, I thank God for all I have and the ability to remember these gems....and see them! Who would have thought we'd see these like we do today?!?!

I agree, Growing up thru the 60’s and 70’s and finally the eighties. Yes we had our problems, but it sure seems like the paranoia level has gotten way out of control.

Can we please go back, these were better times, so much simpler, currently living in COVID19! The Christmas commercials of the 70’s and 80’s captured the magical spirit of Christmas, something you just don’t get today. Watching these commercials makes me all warm and fuzzy like when I was a kid, but sad because of how our world has evolved. It’s sad that many of the stores in these commercials don’t exist anymore. Thank you for putting this video together, allowing me to relive a wonderful time of my life!

We have to remember He is still here, and we have to remind others he is!! It's our duty to keep Christ in the everyday world.
I know it's hard now, but I'd rather speak for Him, and be hated, than not speak, and be "liked."
I'm almost 40, and just getting to the groove of being an adult. I being reminded so often to remember God first. I see it in my daily activity.
