    This might be more specific to fly fishing, but things like season and temp/weather can come into play. I remember when I was first starting out, I used a dry fly shaped like a horsefly, caught an absolute ton. However, when I tried the same fly one month later, I got nothing.

    • @jacobstarr9010
      @jacobstarr9010 Před 2 lety +10

      Time of year matters a lot with fly fishing, as different flies will hatch at different times of the year. For example, if you used a caddis fly pattern one month and were successful, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be successful the next month, week, day, etc.

    • @cloaker7237
      @cloaker7237 Před 2 lety +6

      @@jacobstarr9010 Exactly. A Caddisfly’s gonna be a lot better in mid/late July than it is in late April.

    One thing that really helped me was a tip from old timers. We were getting skunked and the group of old timers next to us were bringing them in one after another. When they were packing up, they gave us some "Japanese" hooks and then we were on!
    These hooks are ultra light and the bait floats much better. Yes, they tend to bend easier but I'll take that risk.

    My dad told me years ago that he was at Walden when the truck pulled up to stock the pond with trout. He said that they backed up to the edge of the water and dumped a predetermined amount of fish. Then they tried to pull away, but the 2nd truck got stuck in the mud. They struggled for about 10 minutes before deciding to lighten the load by dumping the whole truckload of trout into the water! Hahaha, he said the fishing was so good, you could’ve just scooped them up 😂😂🤣

    Better be aware of what baits are legal and illegal at each body of water you fish. If it illegal don't bring it at all. Don't leave it in your bag. Don't leave it in your truck. If you have a run in with game warden.......they can ticket you for having such illegal baits. Just a little tip from my own experiences.
