      He did a lot for rallycross itself, but in terms of pure talent I think Matti Alamaki was pure genius of rallycross back then.

    Many thanks for uploading these. It takes me right back to my childhood, sat in the living room, watching Grandstand with my late Father.

    Great to see a new upload. Monster cars and names I still remember all these years later despite not watching any modern RX.

    The second that VW Bug took the lead in the B main that driver's head went up his ass. He blew line after line and threw that win away.

    rallycross cars should be have like 1000 hp, get back to unlimited

    • @extec101
      @extec101 Před 3 lety +4

      todays cars is faster due to better tyres gerboxes and suspension.
      same with rally group b cars vs modern car the 2021 car will beat the crap out of the 80s cars.
      but the old era got its glory with firebreathing cars and primitive handling.
      just love to watch old rally and motorsports videos its a gone but not forgotten era.

      @@extec101 not true. the best of the late 80`s was the fastest ever

    • @sometimesidreamaboutcheese
      @sometimesidreamaboutcheese Před rokem +3

      @extec101 Well, in the end of Group B (alongside with Group S prototypes as a legacy) there already was adaptive suspension with bunch of sensors and with 4 wheel steering, semi-automatic gearboxes(early sequental), suspension and tyre monitoring in realtime, realtime torque split selectors, progressive engines, antilag systems, brakes cooling, f1 aerodynamics, titanium alloys and light, strong exotic materials literally everywhere. Main problems was only tyre developement and brake systems, some improvements of suspension was already on the way as another things here and there.
      GroupB/S was like cosmic era with non-stop ideas. And FIA fucked up all that for over 30 years. Do not underestimate rally engineering of late 80s.
      You can check for yourself what GroupB cars could do with nowadays modern tyres at some hillclimbs (several Ianiello's Lancia Delta S4s) or at some rally events(Lancia 037 with modern tyres is insane for RWD car) with proper drivers.
