1972 Suzuki TS185: First ride….and push home!

- After getting the top end redone and installed in part 2, I clean up the TS only to get it all muddy back on my trails. This bikes a blast, but unfortunately my ride was cut short….not really the bikes fault though! Hope you enjoy this little adventure!
I had a lot of off different off road bikes back in late seventies ,but my TS 185 holds the best memories by far.....such a charismatic and fun bike.
I’m going to have a hard time selling this bike lol. It’s growing on me very quickly.

So that's where the chain broke. But at least it wasn't boiling hot for your walk home :-) And you will have a nice new chain ready to resume your ride. I think everyone is enjoying your adventures out in the back woods. It is fun to watch you ride around and see the countryside. And the little Suzuki is probably a fan favourite by now 👍
Yes, I lucked out with the weather and with it not wiping the case out. I’m glad people enjoy watching even when stuff like that happens. Makes for an entertaining adventure in a way😆
Great little bike, sounds sooooo good! I miss all those little two strokes from the 70’s (and 80’s if you lived in Europe or Japan). Lightweight, lots of power, easy to maintain….and relatively inexpensive.
This one is really growing on me which sucks because I really need the room for more bikes to tinker on lol.
I wish I had been home to see that. Last Saturday I was in my bachelor pad looking out the window washing my dish (I have only one) when I saw some thug on a bike zipping around. Hey I think that might have been you!
That was me being the neighborhood hoodlum on my old noisy 2stroke dirt bike causing a ruckus! Thanks for not calling the cops on me.

Had a Ts 250 it was gently used so I refurbished it and it looked new, I was riding on some sand dunes and wiped out and the bike slid over the top of me causing 3rd degree burns and the kick stand spring popped off and ripped my testicals wide open after an hour drive to the hospital I was out of work for weeks, it’s something you don’t soon forget.
Good Lord that’s horrible! Sorry to hear that. Were you able to ride again after that whole ordeal?
A very enjoyable ride while it lasted and the sound brought back a few great memories. At least the push home was mostly downhill.
Awesome, glad that it brought some back for you! Stay tuned because I’ll have this one back in the woods hopefully soon. Got the new chain and sprockets on along with front and rear brakes.
Bought one new in 1972 $650 out the door daily driver at 15 yrs old washing dishes.
Turn 16 bought a 1961 ford van ( $500.) and a Suzuki factory 175 cc hop up kit and went Mx racing In central Florida. It was a great starter bike and won many trophies.

These old trail bikes are great where it's not too rocky. Looks pretty smooth where you are.
Yeah these trails are pretty tame. Just down the road from my house. I have other trails that I ride that will be a little more technical.
When I read the title I was worried it was engine related, glad it was only that old chain!
Yup me too! New chain and sprockets are on and ready for the next proper woods ride. Hopefully the weather breaks soon and I can get that up on the channel too.

Yup, I’ll have one hopefully soon. It’s been snowing and raining here a lot but the weather should be breaking in the near future!

My old favorite of all the bikes Ive had I think! Just love the sound of that engine brings back a lot of trail riding memories.
Nice! Keep an eye out for another longer riding video with this bike. Just got the new chain and sprockets on and just waiting for a good day to hit the trail with it.
my best friend and i both had ts 400's,mine a 74 his a 75.the 74 was like new with all the lights and i paid 400 bucks for it.that was 1980. i didnt have a driver license yet but a set of cardboard lost plates got me around.it was my 1st taste of freedom and never quit riding.i still have a picture of it with me on it at 16 yrs old.
Nice! I was second in line just this past weekend for a 1975 TS400 that was for sale $850 with a title…unfortunately the guy ahead of me grabbed it before I could 😞. Thanks for sharing!
Brings back great memories of banging around the trails west of Colorado Springs as a teenager in the late 70's on my TS 185. I went with Preston Petty fenders and gas tank, Bassini exhaust and aftermarket rear shocks. I think I paid $350 for it used at a Kawasaki dealership on 8th Street. Coming up from a Kawasaki 90, the 185 was my first full sized motorcycle. Now an Africa Twin rider with a new Trans Alp on order, nothing will beat the memories on my little Suzie.
Cool, this one has both front and rear Preston Petty fenders. Was their fuel tank plastic? I’ll bet that lightened that bike up quite a bit! Is the Bassini exhaust much lighter too? That thing had to have ripped!
@@Garage2TrailYes, all PP was plastic on my bike, with modular lighting in the (white) fenders and a large blue tank. I also geared it down a bit for the hills. Unfortunately, I didn’t save any good pictures of it 😬
Friend had one and we rode the wheels of it 😂 we didn’t beat it we just used it ! Clean n wax after with a detail 1 a month. Wish I could find one now I’m semi retired. lol.
They are still out there! Just keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace. That has overtaken Craigslist for finding bikes online. You gotta be fast on the deals though! This one was listed for 20mins when I jumped on it and by the time I showed up later that day there were people in line if I didn’t take it.

It lifts the front end so easily!
It just seemed so balanced; it was like it didn't want to flip over backwards. I won a $50 bet riding a wheelie from Disney land to Knotts Berry farm "14 miles" at 3 am, never set it down once!@@Garage2Trail

@@Garage2Trail I'll bet man! Loved the video, aside from your chain breaking! Sounds like it has pretty good low end and mid range. I really dig the look of thus bike, might have to start shopping for one. I currently ride an 06 KTM 450EXC and although it's a bit heavy, I live in Reno NV and most riding is pretty wide open. It would be a handful in your woods. Love the Xtrainer too and have been seriously considering one. Lightweight, and great motor. Love your kids brother, keep it up! Thank you! That 450 I’m sure scoots pretty good in the desert. I’d love to get my XR650R out west someday and pretend to be Johnny Campbell 20 years ago lol. The 650R is a handful here in the woods but out there would be fun much like your KTM I’m sure. Makes for a fun bike on the road too. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Awfully nice of you being concerned about the environment and pushing/ coasting your 2 stroke home. Actually I've been there and it sucks but it's sometimes the price we pay when playing with old bikes. When it rains it pours, Pun intended, Thanks.
Thanks, I try to be considerate. And yes you are correct about the price paid for playing with old bikes. It’s definitely worth it though! Doesn’t happen often. I really should have replaced that old chain from the get go 😆

I followed this series and it inspired me to finally take apart a 79 my friend gave to me, hasn’t ran in 15 years with suspected piston problems. Where are you buying parts from?
That’s awesome man! I found all the stuff for this bike on eBay. The key is to find the Suzuki part number from partzilla or CSMNL.com and search eBay with those. CSMNL also has parts from time to time and even though they are located in the UK, I’ve gotten stuff from them surprisingly fast when I can’t find it on eBay.
The 185 was better than the 250
Which bike did you like best 185 suzuki or 125 yamaha
The ‘71 Suzuki 185 hands down…especially for woods work. Maybe the DT125 or AT1 for more road work but that ‘72 TS185 is a lightweight ripper!
